This is really quite an interesting and thoughtful question. This is not a love post, so many of you might find it difficult to comment. Nothing to insult here.

A lot of patriotic Nigerians may not be happy with my answers so i have to apologise before i continue.
Beside corruption, there is lack of effective upward social mobility in the country.
Back in the day when life was simple, it used to be pretty straight forward: go to school, work very hard,get good grades and get a really awesome employment offer. (NOW IT'S NO LONGER THAT SIMPLE)
Youth unemployment, country, is probably on it's highest level ever in the country. We almost have the highest number of young persons below the age of 25 in the entire world yet our politicians can't think beyond easy oil money.
It's almost impossible for an individual born in poverty to escape that in life no matter how hard they try or struggle. No job, how do you start up a business? Apart from that other possible barriers.

Power is the engine of any economy, take it or leave it. Most businesses in nigeria can't survive because of electricity, some even as of this, after surviving this,they are tax with various atrocious and trumpt up levies and "revenues" that most business die naturally within a period of one year.
Then there isn't a motorable road to transport your goods and services. And if you decide to defy these death traps called road in the country,there is an almost endless supply of armed men to you called ''POLICE'' at every intersection especially in the eastern part of the country. These armed threaten you and their mission is to collect as much valuables and cash from you as possible but claim to be your friend.

Ok, lets say you're made of steel and not given up you quest to survive and escape poverty by now,if you're into manufacturing,you won't be able to find the machinery, tools and the right workers trained for the job in the country.
When you decide to import these items, then that where the nigerian customs, men who have sworn to make life as miserable as possible for any business person in the country, thats where the take over in perpetuating the suffering you have been experiencing.
These men cook up any charge they can both those by book and off them in order to extort money from businesses and individualz. Often there is multiple taxation, lobbying and looting of goods at port, collecting money from importers using several and meticulously arranged and intricate schemes.

I support those words from you. I guess it one of the main challenges nigerians ar facing today.

A major concern for me with Nigeria is what I call intellectual poverty or put in other words,lack of critical reasoning. In the next 20years Nigeria will be filled with educated illiterates, this is due to broken education system. Have u tried to have a conversation with a youth recently or listened into conversations between a few of our Nigerian youths? I keep on wondering what how we will ever transform into a progressive nation with such a situation like this. Take a look comments on blogs and social media, you will see so called undergraduates,graduates,working class Nigerians and their shallow and senseless comments.

Tribal, religious, and social sentiments.

Tribal- we have too much nepotism from distribution of socio economic amenities to the agitation for Biafra.

Religious - too much discrimination, domination and blind resent because of " God"

Social - the wave of anti patriotism is unprecedented! The propaganda and slander machine is oiled and in full gear, increase in saboteuring.

All these issues inform our political stance, thus our very existence as a country.

Am begining to imagine, it's almost as if the government actually has a master plan,in the scheme of things to make sure people don't succeed or financially and economically free and emancipated. We are excellent at abstracting away problems- corruption,tribalism,religion,illiteracy and so on listening to the usual suspects.

Don't let your imagination run wild, the government is you and me.
The last thing you want to do in being progressive is to blame an effect ( the government) the real cause of our situation is inherent in our stance/perspective/bias/opinion/sentiments as willed by us.

Illiteracy - people that hold educational certificates of at least primary school are unable to reason clearly, function orderly or manage waste.

All other issues of tribalism, nepotism, religious zombism, etc stems from the first.
