I bided for a ford explorer 2003 model on auctionexport.com which I won for 300 USD

Auction export thereafter sent me an invoice with a total bill payable of 3,153 USD.

I have already asked them to cancel the bid and charge me the 1000 USD, because I might end of losing more than the 1000USD if I go ahead with the purchase.

Do we call this an exploitation?

Look at your inland transport. $875.

Why didn't you bid for cars close to the port?

It means your car has to be moved by a truck from its location to port.

Na you do yourself. Next time, open ya eye.

Waowww! Sorry for your situation.
But there must've been some agreement/terms & conditions before buying thru them. Your seller is a third party as the original vehicle seller is IAA not where you purchased it.

To reduce the cost, ask them if you can handle your inland transport & shipping yourself/elsewhere; then contact me to help you out (that will surely cut the price by almost half).

It's way better you ask plenty questions before dealing with organization/people. They should have educated you on where to buy, and not to buy, as per location. Agreed Nevada ain't a good location but still.

A (good) Nigerian with same bidding account rights as your albatross won't charge you up to a tenth of what you paying now.

Try and pay up the fees. Losing $1000 for nothing is far worse than the extra charges. After all, you must have to transport the car to Nigeria before you can use it. And bulk of the amount is on transport and export duties.

This is a total rip-off! This is not a matter of close to the port or not. What is the reason for $1450 for shipping, if I may ask you.

Mind you, 99.9% of auctions vehicles are moved by truck to Port (.1% are the Mexican-style vehicles grin)

The fee increases with the distance. A New Jersey car shipping from New Jersey will mosdef be cheaper than a car from Kansas shipping from New Jersey.

As for his shipping costs of $1450, some RoRo costs about that amount depending on the port. Between $750-$1500.

For me, he selected these options without knowing their full implications.

When you say "rip-off", are you claiming they introduced fraudulent charges?

I think not. The breakdown was plain.

Why would one truck a car from KS to NJ when Galveston is available, even Jacksonville or Baltimore would have been a better options, especially with the difficulty around Bayonne now.

Would anyone (in his right frame of mind) have selected these options if adequate explanation was provided to him/her.

Are you also saying any shipping line is charging $1450 to ship this particular vehicle from any of the 7 ports in USA?

Typical of a lot of us to only apportion blame & not proffer solutions; if the solution I proffer entails selling market so be it.

Thank you for opening my eyes to that self, I will start adding my little charge for all the people I do that for now.

Make I think of what to call it undecided

it's not a rip off. Do you know the distance between nevada and the exit port? He didn't do the necessary checks. Auctionexport usually displays all these fees before you bid. Op is the type that would see purchase price of a car for $300 and come and insult dealers for selling car at 1.8m. Let him pay the money. He will learn the hard way.. all these info were there for him to access before placing the bid. Don't know what your intentions are. The issue here is due diligence. You can't do anything for him at this stage. Don't give him high hopes. Either he parts with $1k or he pays for his car. If he wants to pay for his car, he can choose to arrange his shipping. That way he saves a lot of money

Bros, it is better I part with my 1000 Dollars, I accept my mistake. Importing this yeye ford explorer with 2 door to Nigeria will cost me not less than 1.5m naira even if i ship it through my own agent.. We learn from our mistake.

if I were in your shoes, considering the vehicle involved, I would tow same line. But I still maintain you were neither extorted nor ripped off cos all the info about the fees attached to this vehicle were at your disposal before bidding. But the truth is their fares are high. At least you have learnt from this.

Why would they charge 1450 for Roro shocked .
For this kind car max $850 and that would be Texas self.

Op where is the location of this vehicle in the states ?

I could remember that explorers corolla thread, where he Said a corolla was bought $275 but sold 2m.
Person way no sabi anything self go they carry Hand.

Money to truck and ship alone is more expensive than the purchase price of many camry and corolla in this nigeria not including the amount used in clearing and repairing again.

If you don't read well you'd get burnt. You wanna buy a $300 car. grin

For a ford like that with no damage it was definitely sent to the auction because of wear and tear. Prepare for repairs too grin

Apparently, your intention is to justify buying a $300 vehicle to sell #1.8m, your attempt to use this scenario to buttress that is DOA.

Can you be specific esp as the fact of this transaction is all out: a particular vehicle purchased from Nevada & shipping to Lagos Nigeria.

Now, let's break it down:
- are you saying trucking this vehicle from NV to CA is $875 & also saying shipping it is $1450 from CA?

- Or u saying trucking this vehicle from NV to TX or MD or FL is $875 & also shipping it is $1450 from TX or MD or FL?

Either option u choosing the charges are outrageous.

More directly, have you as a dealer ever shipped $1450?

Taking advantage of someone is called rip-off.

yes, with the present cost of diesel, it could be $875 from nevada to texas. You outrightly feign ignorance of auction export here. They state everything to you. So before bidding, you know the cost and fees for everything. If you decide to go ahead and bid, then subsequently win, is that a rip off? Is that fraud? Is that extortion. You willingly agreed to their terms. I will post a screenshot so all will see what I'm saying. Op can't pretend not to have know these prices. It's their business, they fix their prices. If you are not comfortable, you walk away. If you pitch tent with them, don't complain. I personally have not done any business with them cos their trucking and shipping fees are not reasonable to me. But if I do business with them despite knowing all these, I shouldn't complain.

let's be sincere here. If OP intends selling this ride on arrival, how much do you think this vehicle will go for, considering all these costs, clearing and of course repairs and his profit. Let's not be deceived by the dentless body. This type of car consumes more money than one that has minimal visible dent. Let's just be objective here. Mind you, op was not taken advantage of. All those charges were there even before he placed his bid. If he did not bother to check, that's his mistake.
Re: I Won A Car For 300 USD But Auctioneer Sent Me A Bill Of 3,153 USD by sultaan(m): 8:25am On Aug 05, 2018
OP is just discovering the reason why the price of any car can be 7 times it purchase price from auction.

Even if he had bid on a car worth $5000 dollars the shipping cost from auctionexport as facilitator will still be the same.

That truck will land in Nigeria at that price and customs duty should be 70%of that amount.

With this in mind it explains why car sale in Nigeria is a bloody unforgiving business

For others trying to buy a car through this medium please do your home work.

Don't bid because it is cheap, you have to know what the on OTR the road cost is (how much total to drive the car off)

Always look at the shipping cost from the location of the vehicle and learn about all models of vehicles out there

if you really want to be honest here you would state that the only issue on that thread wasn't just false declaration but also the purchase and selling price. Even the topic highlighted a corolla bought for $275 and sold for 2m. If it was only the false declaration, the cost wouldn't have come up as for all other cars that were flagged for the same offence.

Thank you. People will just come online and deceive others into ventures that they will eventually lose money in. I'm sure OP went thru the $275 corolla thread. I'm certain OP will be shocked at the extent of mechanical repair needed for that ford if he eventually imports.
