Fellow nairalanders. I'm stuck between these two cars. Toyota Camry and honda accord. People are claiming the Camry is more reliable and has higher resale value and easily maintainable. I'm more in love with the Honda accord as I'm used to honda products already. Please I need good pieces of advice.

Both rides are good. Oil shortage problems on the 2az engine(i4). The Honda Accord is a better option if you ask me . But not as rugged as what you take out of the 2007 Camry. As for the Honda Accord are you talking about the late 2007 models which had a new design ?

Op both are nice and capable rides, it’s gonna be hard picking one over the other unless you’re a fan of one brand (like you already are)

Just toss a coin grin

Bruv..I’m not sure those ball joints pull off on ‘top speed’. They usually wait for you to slow down..and enter a pothole/ditch..

Lemme drop this before they come for my head.. grin
With proper checks..at least every 4-6months..the ball joint issue can be avoided. When I had a Honda..I had extra(2)ball joints in the trunk.
Ps: it isn’t applicable to all Honda models.

first it depends on. what u want and who u are.

what u want: power, speed, acceleration, beauty, gadgets..... Honda

reliability, resale value- forced and relaxed, simple and understandable systems.... presence of technical expertise (to an extent) worldwide......Toyota

who u are: a religious, structured, principled person who doesn't compromise standard.... Honda

a lackey with some level of compromise and structure but will compromise at some point... Toyota.... it can take the abuse

where u are sef follow.....

Lagos, onitsha, Abuja, port Harcourt, London, Geneva, Paris, Mexico, UAE and other parts of the world not in Nigeria..... Honda

every other part of Nigeria not listed above..... Toyota

I think obeke has summed it up here. If you are not about maintenance, if you will hear noise and ignore it until the car gives up, I would say Toyota. But if you are proactive about maintenance, Honda. Not to say that Honda's can't take abuse, my recommendation is based on the greater strain that ball joint's ungergo in wishbone suspension systems. Wishbones contribute a lot to the better handling the Honda has compared to the Toyota.

the only parts of the Honda that can take abuse are the leather seats and the engine.... no other part can take abuse.

the handling is like no other... I once owned an 03 accord v6.....mehn it was wow! double wishbone setup.... but the downside is it has too many connected parts that are prone to wear and tear unlike the McPherson suspension system with fewer parts and simple setup

Nice Analysis bro!

Poster, I do advice you to go for the Camry. The maintenance cost for the Accord will send you straight to the village. grin

Honda V6's from that generation have some really shitty auto transmissions. Carry out a thorough inspection before buying.

The Accord is a much better car than the Camry, though. About par, of course--Honda makes more sophisticated cars than Toyota.

As someone said before, if maintenance is a big deal for you, get the Camry. If not, get the Accord.

I've not seen a lot of DCs with the ball joint issue.

Any buyer asking/comparing toyota camry & Honda accord.. Should just go and buy the Toyota camry.

That is how somebody was comparing 06 toyota corolla to 05 Acura Tsx.. Such a person should just buy the toyota corolla.

Both cars are at the end of their production life for their generation( most production issues sorted out. Both cars are very reliable ( when they have not been abused)

The Camry is NOT plagued with oil consumption problems ( this affected the next generation 2AZ-FE engine used in the 2007-09 camry, 2006-09 rav4)

The Camry is equipped with the 5 speed automatic (U250E ) transmission, using the Toyota T-IV atf fluid) ( strange). Quite 'sensitive' transmission and very pricey to replace (might be the same price with the Honda accord V6 transmission( Not sure))

Suspension system is crap( i mean the shock absorbers and bushings). It handles like a boat.

The 2006 Camry is a very Boring design. Too boring for my liking.

On the Other hand,

The 2007 accord (discussion continue) is a very reliable vehicle. Cool interior and exterior. Very good handling.

Suspension system is very good( the Ball joint is the load bearing type, hence its likelihood of failure particularly if the ball joint installed is fake.
Original ball joints may cost as high as 40k a pair, and that will last as long as 7 years even in bad road conditions

the V6 transmission for this face-lifted version is much more reliable than in the pre-face-lift model. Frequent oil changes With the right fluids is key.
same thing with the engine.

The choice is yours to make bro..
