Over the years pageants have receive the negative image of pageant contestants being dumb ladies who go for pageantries mainly because of their looks and not because of what they have to offer.
Infact most people are of the opinion that pageant contestants are outrightly dumb.

That's not true! Pageant is not a waste of time.. Be it online contest or offline.
Most of the ladies competing in pageants are smart, very bright and highly intellengent with mulitple talents.

Unfortunately today, people would rather wait to see a beauty queen make mistake than help her become a better person.

Pageantry unveils that part of a lady she never thought existed.
I can honestly say that miss Nairaland 2016 shaped me to whom I am today.
It unveiled a part of me I never thought existed. I gained insight then as to the lady I am today... I became bolder to face any challenge.
I have competed in different pageants so far and I have met different people, people I wouldn't have met if I sat in a corner of my room. I have met life long friendship, people who help me become better everyday.

And pageantry gave me confidence to go out into the world and make a difference.
The journey has just began.

Pageantry is not a waste of time.. All of the ladies who participate in pageants are not stupid, but bright.

Below are some photograph potriats I did for an AD in ondo state recently.

Anything that enters Nigeria must be bastardised and abused, beauty pageantry inclusive... How will you have the following in one country :
Miss Nigeria
Most beautiful girl in Nigeria
Miss world Nigeria
Miss universe Nigeria
Miss Nigeria global
Miss University Nigeria
Miss tourism Nigeria
Miss Nigeria tourism
Most beautiful model in Nigeria
Miss model Nigeria

In Nigeria, almost every girl has won a beauty pageantry at some point in her life, and most of these so called winners are usually very ugly and dumb but depend on sleeping with the pageantry organisers and sponsors.

At the bolded..

Sir, in my opinion I recommend every young girl participate in at least one pageant! It's a lot of fun, aside that, they become women with higher standard of living.

Not all winners are dumb and ugly..lol grin and about sleeping with pageantry organisers.. This is true, girls are pressured to sleep with some of the organizers, but I for one would rather go home than sleep with anybody just to get a crown.
I hold a title now, and I can boldly say I didn't sleep with no body to wear my crown. smiley

I get ur point though... There are two sides to a coin.

Yeah. I can't change the school of thought that Nigeria has bastardized this pageantry of a thing. Been in the chaperone business the last few years and it's really really bastardized.

Lanicky however, has been a big big difference so far; and exception from the candidates I've seen so far. Perhaps the trend might be extended soon....

Intelligent girls are good.

Not like one I saw in a University pageant and she swapped the definitions of manicure for pedicure. Some ladies said its excusable. I almost slapped them. Me that since Home Economics class in jss3, the definition has stuck in my head till date without me having to check dictionary....? how much more ladies that do it week In week out.

Optimus Prime Crew are still basking in the lights that Lanicky is making a difference.

People didn't assume girls who take part in beauty contest are dumb. Truth is, majority of the girls made people believe they're dumb because of the way they answer questions.

Fine, it may have moulded you into the person you are today. But truth be told, that is you. Can the same be said for others? If this girls aren't dumb and strolling on the street of dumbness, let them show they aren't by proving themselves.

I believe it's not wise to generalise. From experience from different pageant/beauty contest i've watched, many of the girls are dumb. Even you, have we ever witnessed you engage in intelligent discourse?

in America, pageantry starts from as little as six months old.

You think NIGERIA'S own is bad, there are one-year old beauty queens in some parts of the world. Some children are trained to be beauty queens, they are professionals in pageantry, they have won every age grade there is. That is the real bastardising.

Anyway @OP, of course pageantry is not a waste kf time, as long as you are not involved in all those Lagos-Ibadan expressway pageants. Target the big ones like MBGN, Miss Nigeria, Face of Aso abi Wetin be the name? Those ones will introduce you to big shots and give you a shot at landing some big fish husband if you have sense. Ask the likes of Adaeze Yobo, Stephanie Kalu, Powede Lawrence, Stephanie Okereke, Bianca Ojukwu, Regina Askia, Agbani Darego, Ezinne Akudo, etc..... These are some of the women who were given a platform in pageantry and soared with them. Some men who have also made it thanks to pageantry are Kenneth Okoli, Emmanuel Ikubuese, Alexx Ekubo, Melvin Oduah, Bryan Okwara etc

If you are doing all those nonsense pageants sha, don't waste your time. Nobody will even remember your face in two years.

Miss Nairaland is not a true beauty pageant contest. Wetin the winners dey do? How far dem dey go? Aside the first Miss Nairaland, Adaobi123, I can barely even remember the rest. Miss Nairaland is just a popularity contest. We are talking about pageants here

Most girls entering these beauty pageants honestly have nothing else to offer aside their looks, and can you really blame them? They Mame these women sell their bodies in the name of selling tickets to raise money for the pageant organisers. These women are objectified by making them parade for some sex-starved men to ogle them, you only have to find their brain capacity when they have been streamlined to five.

Is it okay to judge 32 or so contestants based on the errors of just five of them? Especially when you find that some of them may have lost major points because they didn't sell enough tickets, not necessarily because their carriage was bad or they weren't pretty enough.

Funnily, many peeps on here know that the online contest is actually a popularity contest. Miss Nairaland not having the backing of the owner makes it seem drab and uninteresting, but Dygeasy has tried, running stuff solo till the team stuff came about; bottom line is I agree about the Mr and Miss Nairaland. How far has Adaobi gone in the business though?

But my comment your quoted was about her winning real life beauty pageants@Lanicky. She's tried. infact I don't even remember much about all these online contests.

Glad we're on the same page about the Pageantry stuff all across Nigeria and the world as a whole. My chaperone experience in 2yrs is enough to pull out cos truly your points are all facts as well. It's sad.

But she's tried@Lanicky.

Adaobi is a medical doctor in the US..... She doesn't need a pageantry business grin. She won when it wasn't a popularity contest and she honestly, didn't care much for the title. I think she left this site two years after winning the first Miss NL

I honestly don't see the need for this so called fake beauty pageants. I've always felt the girls who partake in it have nothing going for them, that's why they give their heart, body and soul to even make it to top of this fake pageants.

Now, let's come to the 'good' pageants like MBGN and the likes. Let's face it, many of the girls aren't what you'd call smart or intelligent, nope, they're just there, ordinary not very intelligent girls who have only their body(ies)/face to show case.

The only thing this good pageants have going for them is creating a platform for the girls to migrate from their life of strife and struggling to one of better living standards. (just like you said)

I see no reason why any sane female would even want to take part in a beauty contest. I mean, there's a reason why they're called beauty contest/pageant, right.

Lol@your she sha dey abroad comment.

That's what I like.... cos generally speaking, I noticed most beautiful girls have Lil regard for current affairs or general knowledge. That's how a friend that knows I was versed in that aspect lured me in.... grin (yeah it was that bad) sometime I see me as a one lecturer wey just dey give student books and pdfs and instructions to just catch up and be relevant enough to walk the walk way and leave the other aspects to the backstage team.

Lol. See the nonsense list of Nigerian beauty pageants that only nomenclature is just rearranged like some combination in statistics class.

world global and universe are synonyms. grin

To be in such an "industry" tough skin and determination can kick-start the ride to the top. Cos they can so frustrate person ni. demonic frustration!!! Lol.
