My mum and l were in the farm, when we heard the sound of gunshot. Men, women and children were running and taking cover. Some were shouting " Faro! "

The Faro tribe are Fulani herdsmen, they are wicked and heartless. They killed my father who was a Captain of the Abushi warriors eight years ago in the forest. The Faro tribesmen value their Cows more than human lives of other tribes. They are specialized in the use of bow and arrow and guns. Their major occupation is hunting and cattle rearing.

In Katango, there are three major tribes; Abushi, kato and Faro. The Faro are our sworn enemies likewise the people of Kato. The Kato are friendly and hospitable but we don't trust them because they look like faro Fulani's. In battle, the kato warriors are deadly with the use of charms and guns.

Abushi and kato tribes share same belief in the time of wars - it is a taboo to kill a woman in battle. But the Faro are beast, killing and Bloodshedding is a way of life to them. They kill in time of peace and war both women and children.

After eight years of training and waiting to avenge the death of my father. Finally, they strike again but this time, l will pluck out their balls and feed them to the Vultures.

Chapter One

"Boluk!"

"Boluk!!"

Boluk look through the window and saw Kanji Chief Obo's guard running towards his compound. Boluk went out to meet him.

"What is the problem?" Boluk ask.

"Tivi has been attacked by Faro warriors!" Kanji replied breathlessly.

"What? What happened to the ten warriors l left with your Chief?"

"The Abushi warriors were outnumbered. The Faro warriors are over fifty led by Kunji the one eye beast."

"Kunji! that son of a dick! Go! I will catch up with you." Boluk said.

Boluk went into his house, took his gun that was hung on the wall and dash out.

Kunji(the one eyed beast) is a Captain of Faro. He lost one of his eye to Boluk in the " Battle of Tavan." The battle of Tavan was a fierce one. For the first time, Faro warriors were fleeing the battlefield on foot in freight without their horses. Over six hundred soldiers were killed, four hundred were severely wounded and their Cows seized.

Captain Kunji fought in this battle, in an attempt to escape, Boluk drew his bow and arrow towards his direction and sent it flying in the air. Kunji can catch a flying arrow with his bare hands. He tried to catch the arrow but missed it and the arrow pierced into his left eye. From that day onward, the brave Kunji was mocked by his juniors and was nickname " the one eyed beast. "

" Boluk, you will pay with your two eyes and life for making me a laughing stock. " kunji was speaking to himself.

Five Faro warriors are in the Chiefs' house searching for Boluk but he was no where to be found. They walk to Kunji, " boss, Boluk is not here sir."

Kunji shouted angrily, " what? Find him and when you get him, l want his eyes!"

Chapter Two

Ten Abushi warriors are in serious gun duels with fifty Faro warriors.

Afin ( Boluk assistant ) " heh! the three of you, escort the Chief into a safe place now! "

" how about you, we can't leave without you. " Gaus said.

" it is an order, if you don't go now, we all are going to die. Leave now! " Bullets sailed over Afin's head by a whisker and hit the wall. Gaus and two warriors held and shielded the chief to the backyard. They led the chief through the secret passage into his chariot and left.

" we are outnumbered, let's retreat. " Vaco said.

" Stay where you are, it is cowardice for an Abushi warrior to flee from his enemies. " Afin replied him.

" Afin, we are running out of bullets. "

" Vaco stop it! Don't distract us." Davin said while shooting.

Afin shot seven warriors to death. Davin the fearless drop ten more horsemen who fell into a ditch.

" oh no my bullet is finished. " Vaco was sweating and shaking in fear when he saw twenty gun men armed to the teeth with sophisticated riffles approaching from the rear.

" Afin am out of here. " Vaco opened the back door and ran for his life. Two other warriors joined him.

Kunji look ahead and saw three Abushi warriors running. He smiled, raised his gun, aimed and shot them dead.

" Boss we are trapped, no more bullets. " Davin said.

" How many arrows are with you?" Afin asked.

" fifteen sir"

" twenty gun men are approaching, use your arrows wisely. " ( in his heart he said Boluk we need you )

" They finally stop shooting, it seems they have run out of bullets. " Kunji said.

" boss the chief has disappeared. " said his assistant Uji.

" what about his wives and children? "

" They are with our men sir including the maiden of Tivi."

" Good "

" Boss what should we do with them? "

Kunji laugh and said, " Enjoy yourself and kill them all."

Boluk crept unnoticed to where the people of Tivi were kept and saw five warriors on guard. And cast a spell on them " Sleep" and five of them fell into a deep sleep.

Boluk walk a little distance and saw Kunji and few of his warriors and fired.

Six men fell from their horses dead including Uji, Kunji assistant. Bullet grazed Kunji right arm and he fell from his horse to the ground. He quickly took cover behind a fenced wall. He tried to spy who the shooter was but a bullet almost hit his right eye and he duck quickly.

The Faro warriors who were about to attack the house where Afin and three warriors were taking cover change their mind when they heard gun shot not too far off. They turn and follow the direction the sound came from. Immediately, Afin and his men drew their arrows and shot four dead. In the space of one hundred and twenty seconds, sixteen more went down like a pack of cards.

Boluk armed with AK 47 shot eight more warriors dead. Kunji managed to escaped by swimming on the dusting ground with his hands and belly.

Finally, Boluk and four Abushi warriors rescued the people of Tivi from the one eyed beast squad.

Chapter Three

" Daddy wake up, it's time for hunting. " (tapping the shoulder of his dad lightly)

" I'm so tired. Let me sleep for ten minutes more." Boluk replied sleepily.

"You have to get up and get ready for hunting. Remembered you promise to take me with you today."

" l know but just ten more minutes Zak. "

"Promise."

Boluk touch his son forehead and said, "yeah"

Ten minutes later Boluk came out prepared to go hunting with his eight years old son Zaki. Today is his "pride" birthday, at eight he was already good with the use of bow and arrow. Both headed out armed with a bow and arrow strapped on their back.

"Honi!" Boluk turned and saw his wife Magi running towards them.

"Hello love" (and he hugged her but his wife held him tightly and was shivering a little)

"Are you okay?" Boluk ask with concern in his voice.

"Don't go alone. Please, go with at least two of your warriors." She said.

"We shall be fine, my men will watch over you with their lives."

"I had a bad dream and l saw Pride crying over you. You were lying on the ground and you..you.."

"Shissh, is okay, is just a dream. I need to be going." He kiss her and continue with his son into the wild forest.

Kunji is seen in the forest with four of his warriors waiting for Tagbo a Kato spy he hired to him information about the movement of Boluk.

Kunji smiled wickedly immediately he saw him coming towards him.

"Any news." Kunji asked.

"Yes. Boluk is in this very forest hunting." Tagbo answered.

" finally, the opportunity has come for me to pluck out his eyes and finish him."

"The deal is closed, l need my balance." Tagbo said stretching his hand.

Kunji looked at him and said, "you will get your balance when he is dead. I need your help."

"That was not part of the deal." Tagbo replied frowning.

"I 'll give you extra twenty cows and a thousand Rubie if you can help me to neutralize his powers. Are you going to help or not?"

Tagbo in deep thought (with that huge amount of money l will be among the richest men in Kato and finally have the chance of marrying the King' eldest daughter my old time crush)

"Be fast with it, are you game?" Kunji ask him.

"Yes"

Boluk and his son his themselves in the bush as they sighted two Antelopes grazing.

Boluk speaking to his son in a low voice, "shoot, don't miss and be a man."

Zaki drew his bow, aimed and send the arrow flying, it hit it's target perfectly. The arrow pierced into the neck of one of the antelope and it fell, dead while the other bolted.

"Woah, son you killed your first Antelope. Mum will be proud of you."

The trees are shaking, birds flying in fright and the other antelope that fled, staggered and dropped dead afar off. Boluk sensed danger.

"Son find somewhere to hide quickly and no matter what you see, don't come out."

Zaki ran to an ant hill, dig it quickly with both hands and hides inside.

Immediately after his son has hidden, five faro warriors rode on their horses from different direction surrounding Boluk with guns.

" well, well, well, who do we have here?" The one eyed beast said.

"How dare you encroach on our forest?" Boluk said looking left to know their numbers.

"This forest belong to us. Your forefathers were our slaves and so are you!" The one-eyed-beast responded angrily.

Boluk laugh and said, "look who is speaking, have you forgotten how your village were invaded and burnt down by Trolon?"

"You cried to us for help and because you are the seed of Katango, we joined arms with Kato and defeated the invaders."

"Spare me that history, those are all lies." Kunji said with the wave of his hands.

"We gave you our lands to farm and daughters as wives but your crave for more lands if not checked 'll be your end." Boluk said

"Shut up slave!" Kunji corked his riffle and said, "we have never seek for your help in battle slave, this forest, the whole of it including your farms and cattle belong to us. Let me teach you how to show your taskmaster some respect."

Pointing his gun at Boluk, kunji commanded, "on your knees and drop your weapons!"

Boluk dropped his bow and arrows and went on his knees close to the anthill using his body to shield Zaki from what might happened next.

With a clenched teeth he ask, "what do you want?"

"Your eyes!" Kunji responded and fired.

Chapter Four

Boluk laugh and said, "kokoto-kokoto! Zakinu!"
Meaning you can throw anything at the wind but none can touch the wind. And the bullets fell to the ground harmlessly.

Kunji open his eyes widely dazed. He was confused and remembered the rumour he heard in faro camps about Boluk that arrows, knives and bullets can't harm him. Many believed he is not a human but a spirit.

Kunji shouted in anger at his men, "shoot him! Finish him, don't stop shooting until he is dead!"

Kunji warriors open fire on Boluk like possessed men from all direction.

Magi after the dream she had in the night was troubled in spirit for the safety of her husband and son. She can't sit still, her heart was beating heavily. She was pacing up and down in the parlour worried and every thirty to forty minutes she keep on glancing at the window, to check if her husband and son are back from hunting.

"Ouch! If not for my condition, l would have gone in search for them."(Magi is eight months pregnant)

Heni and Heno ran in excitedly with gifts on their hands but stop on their stride when they saw the worried look on the face of their mother. Heno and Heni are the twins sister of Zaki(both are five years old)

" Miami, what is wrong?" Heni asked.
Magi couldn't hear her asking because she was lost in thought.

"Miami! What is wrong?" They shouted in unison and Magi was jolted from her thought and she replied, "nothing dear." (With a fake smile)

A knock came from the door and Magi jump and sprint to the door.(the twins rolled their eyes amazed)

She open the door and saw Gaus and Prank(a Kato Captain), a close friend to her husband(the joy in her eyes disappeared)

Prano saw this and ask, "Magi are you alright?" But instead she turn to Gaus and said, "take your men to the forest and see if all is ...." She didn't complete her statement when they heard a deafening sound of AK 47.(Magi face drain of colour, she ran into the house and took a double barrel) but Gaus told two of his men to hold her down. The two warriors held her and she screamed, "take your hands off me now! My husband and son are in danger!"

"Can't you her condition? Release her." Prano said. And the warriors let go of her.

"Magi calm down, you need to stay strong. I will join your warriors in the search."

They keep hearing more shots and Prank, Gaus and twelve warriors fully armed for battle mounted on their horses and ride in top speed into the jungle.

Chapter Five

Kunji men rain bullets on Boluk but none hit its target. The bullets fell an arms length from his knees like feathers of bird. Meanwhile Boluk didn't move, he was still on his knees like an lroko tree planted on the ground.

Kunji in frustration ordered his men to stop shooting. He look deeply at Boluk and was wondering why in spite of the shooting he didn't make an attempt to fight back. Something is not right, could he be trying to protect someone? The one-eyed-beast thought to himself. Suddenly, he remembered, "where is that fool Tagbo?" I need him to neutralize his powers.

Kunji pointed his gun and said,"stand up and move forward slowly. " He ignored him and behave as if he didn't hear him. His major concern was for the safety of Zaki.

Zaki was still in the anthill hole seeing all that is happening to his father. He was sweating and boiling in anger because of his inability to help his father. His father's instruction kept on ringing in his head, "...no matter what you see, don't come out."

Suddenly, the shooting stop and he heard the one eyed man telling his father to stand and move forward slowly but his father didn't move.

Zaki held his arrow tightly anticipating what will happen next.

Kunji believed that Boluk is hiding something and order two of his warriors to search behind him. Both of them jumped from their horses but before they touch the ground they were both dead(pierced on the neck by flying daggers from Boluk)

Kunji seeing what just happened turn in anger to the spot Boluk was kneeling but he was no more there. Boluk limped in the air and grabbed the head of a faro warrior horseman and snapped his neck. The warrior dropped like a log of wood from his horse dead.

Kunji and his assistant don't want to take any chances, they started shooting sporadically since they can't see their for. Boluk ran and dive towards the anthill to shield his son from being hit by bullets.

Suddenly, a man appeared out of no where in a whirlwind. He called out to Boluk, cast a spell saying, "kikito-kikito! Zakronu!" And he disappeared into thin air.

Boluk protective powers were neutralized and he fell down with his body riddled with bullets.

Kunji unmounted his horse and walk to him with dagger in his hands with the aim to pluck out his eyes. He didn't get close when he heard the sound of guns not too far off. He look and saw Abushi warriors coming on horses in terrible pace fully armed. He and his assistant ran and mounted their horses and rode off.

Zaki came out from hiding, fell on his knees crying, "Daddy! Please wake up!"

"Zaki...take care of your mother...sisters and the baby.." Boluk said(having lost so much blood)

"Daddy! Please stop closing your eyes...daddy!" Zaki was crying and shaking his father.

"Zaki...am...thirsty, get me...water" Boluk said struggling for air.

"Daddy promise me your eyes will be open when l return with the water."

Boluk with his stained with blood touch his Son's forehead and said not very audibly, "l...pro..miss."
Zaki ran to get his father water from the stream close by.

Prano, Gaus and the twelve warriors arrived. They unmounted their horses and ran to Boluk. Gaus knelt beside his Captain, his captain managed to lift his hands, he drew his head close to him and whispered, "Ta..gbo betrayed me." And he died with his eyes open.

From afar in between the woods kunji, Tagbo and his assistant were waiting to ensure that Boluk is dead. And when they heard gun shot they knew he was dead.

Chapter Six

Zaki was running with the bottle of water and ran faster when he heard twelve gunshot which was a mark of honour for a fallen hero. He became afraid, crying while running, "could my dad be dead? No it can't be, he promise to keep his open."

Gaus and Prano heard the feet of someone walking close and they looked and it was Zaki.

"Zaki!" Prano called out.

Zaki didn't answer him, he went to his father who was dead with his eyes open and smiled thinking his father has kept his promise. He knelt down beside him and said, "Daddy, sorry l delayed, here is the water." He placed his left hand on his head lifting it up and tried to give him water with his right hand;"Daddy, come on, open your mouth. "

"Zaki" Gaus called out gently.

"Shisssh! Uncle please come and open Dad's mouth so that l can give him water."

Prano shook his head in pity at the child's ignorance and said, "Zaki your dad is asleep."

Zaki couldn't understand how a person will be sleeping with his eyes open.

Zaki responded, "My dad never sleeps with his eyes open."

"Am sorry Zaki, your dad is dead." Said Gaus.

"No! I don't believe you." Zaki cried out.

"Daddy! Please, don't die, remember today is your Pride's birthday."

Zaki crying and speaking, "Daddy, remember we came hunting together, please Daddy stand up let's go home." And it dawn on him that his father was dead.

Suddenly, he sprang on his feet with his bow and arrow. Prano and Gaus tried to hold him but he ran into the thick of the jungle with one aim in his fragile mind to kill the one eyed man.

Six warriors ran after him to ensure that nothing happen to him.

Zaki hides in the forest as he saw a kato man collecting money from the one eyed beast while his assistant stay on guard watching.

"It is nice doing business with you. With your help l was able to revenge Boluk of my eye." Kunji said.

Tagbo smiled and mounted his horse and gallop away.

Not too far off kunji saw too Abushi warriors running in the woods and immediately he turn his horse and galloped east ward.

Zaki came out from where he was hiding in the bush and drew his bow and casting a spell.

"Zakumi!" (Calling on the god of the wind and lightening) And shot the arrow, the arrow flew with the speed of lightening and pierced through the back of kunji's assistant coming through his left breast and he fell from his horse dead. Kunji seeing this, rode his horse like a madman in fright.

Zaki took another arrow and cast a spell weakly, "Za--za--ku--." He felt a burning sensation in his body. He didn't complete the spell, he cough out blood and fainted.

Chapter Seven

Great kings and queens from all the clans of katango were present in Boluk's burial. A great warrior has passed away to the world beyond. Magi and her twins were present except Zaki who was still unconscious. Four warriors dressed on black trousers with bare chest lifted the bed Boluk was laid and walk to the river bank. They laid him on a boat for his journey into the underworld.

Zakumi the god of the wind was present and with the wave of his hand a slight breeze blew and the boat started sailing.

An Abushi captain steps forward with a flaming arrow. He waited till the boat was closed to the center of the river before shooting it into flame.

Two chief walk to Magi, one from Tivi and the other from kato.

The kato chief tap her lightly and said, "take heart my daughter. Whosoever has done this will never go unpunished. They 'll pay for it." Magi nods her head without saying anything.

The Tivi chief rested his hands on her shoulder to comfort her. He gave her a red and white tied handkerchief and left with his men.

Just like fruits from a fruit tree growing out... Such is the way I perceive your creative mind.... Keep it up sir.... I can see a great comic book coming out of this.. Once you are done with your story we could discuss on how that can be done if you are interested...
