The obvious thing here is those concerned have already poured out their mind and now their heart is lighter rather than keeping the disappointment within themselves, it now takes the subject matter to have a rethink and modify his engagement with his prospects... What he was just doing is just either...1. "I have heard you all, now let's do other things". and we are not all out to destroy him...2. And if he doesn't want to take a cue from the reactions so far, I will never be surprised...
