AreaFada2:Lagos is long overdue in having an underground metro system .if they keep ignoring this then the traffic system over there will forever be a nightmare if not worse in later years. |

When you buy anything from that place and get to the exit gate na so Nigerian customs go grab you and your load.... Begin speak grammar. I was so peace of when I got a table from them and couldn't get it out. We had to go back to tinapa, where they met the people and talks continued for over one hour. Abeg I no do again |

What has the purchasing power of indigenes have to do with tourism? The indigenes provide a service outsiders require and the outsiders pay for this service, that's the abc of tourism. The idea of tinapa was to create a serene business environment combined with leasure, doing this only takes creative thinking. |

The best thing is to put a seaport in cross river to make it viable. |
| Re: Ayade To Turn Tinapa Into University by Abagworo(m): 10:04pm On Aug 26, 2018 |
Calabar has disadvantage of being disconnected from other parts of Nigeria for more than a decade. A search on my earlier contribution with regards to Tinapa says it all. I wrote this in 2009 and 9 years later there's still no road to Calabar. Abagworo:https://www.nairaland.com/261067/nobody-goes-nigeria-biggest-white If we want Tinapa to work, there must be good expressways from Aba to Calabar and Port-Harcourt to Calabar in the short term. In the long term highspeed rail linking different parts of the country will make it more accessible.

AreaFada2:obudu is said 2b 5hours away from calabar d state capital but it recorded very high patronage from visitors within &outside d country during d duke era. Which road, rail and airlink was used 2 cater 4 visitors then? If people could b transported 2 obudu, y would it b a problem 2 transport people within calabar? Or do u need plane 2 fly inside calabar? Duke completed tinapa on schedule but I still don't understand what u mean by him not completing d project. Duke did 90% of d work 4 his successors. If there were other things lacking 2 sustain d initiative, what would it have cost them 2 put them in place even if it meant trying to pull strings at d federal level? Like u said, most of our governors aren't even fit 2b class prefects. So d project failed not cos d vision was 2 big or lack or road or airport, but due 2 their incompetence. For instance, d present governor can't even keep calabar clean as b4. What should it take him to do that? |

lefulefu: You don't mean it? I thought Presco and Okomu patronise their research findings frequently? Tell me it's a lie. As for Ayade, I've always known him to be a cretinous and moronic fvcktard. Is he not the one who passed an incoherent budget of "crystallisation" that had 1,100 SAs and PAs appointed? Dude is a cretin! |

When you think you have seen it all in Nigeria then the record is broken. |

PurplePatch:exactly! same thoughts on my mind. i wept when i visited there for a boat ride. Duke also created an artificial lake beside it. Ayade, please sell Tinapa to a foreign investor. they can turn it into a Disneyland. that city got UniCal, CRUTech, Arthur Jarvis University and Canaan Uni. Tropicana at Uyo is another case study of abandoned project. the place is dead. |

Ayade's brain isn't been working from day one, this is why he lacks direction. This man has proven again and again that he is a serial failure. I pity the people of Cross River state. |

The poster was right on point. The real reason Tinapa hasn't kicked off is because the Calarbar sea port is comatose. Open up the sea port and watch Tinapa boom blackaxe78: |

lexy2014:The long and short of it is that despite how potentially beneficial the project would be, Duke did not factor in the fact that if not 100% done and self-sustaining long before his tenure elapses, there could be far less passionate successors coming behind. Simple. Like I said, a less grand scale would have been completed much earlier and CHEAPER. You cannot compare Obudu Ranch to Tinapa in scale. Moreover Duke was not building Obudu from scratch. You cannot compare a centre lovers seek a quiet time or groups doingt a retreat to a place intended to be bustling with tourists, shoppers and very large commercial section with shopping halls. Even then some Obudu visitors including here on Nairaland complained about distance from Calabar to Obudu & costs of using/visiting Obudu. Remember that Obudu is also partially in direct competition with Tinapa leisure wise. I do not know if you have traveled to some popular tourists spots around the world. Try to compare infrastructure near & leading to those spots to Calabar-Tinapa axis. No matter how you look at it, in retrospect Tinapa funds could have been used to spread development across the state. No matter the reason why it didn't work, it was money wasted. Governments, both State & Federal have no business in commercial ventures. We have no continuity & bad at managing such. This much was already clear in 1999. |

PurplePatch:Can you please explain how the FG is disallowing a seaport in Calabar?... Ive heard this theory for too long without any explanation. |

Being a professor ain't same as astute investors. Oga Prof. Ayade, what stops you from getting Donald Duke and Co to replan Tinapa? You have a structure but can't make it functional. |
| Re: Ayade To Turn Tinapa Into University by IBBG(m): 8:04am On Aug 27, 2018 |
why not just convert the place into a normal shopping mall for now and just maintain the hotel side. Until when the conditions become favourable to expand into a world class tourist centre. |
| Re: Ayade To Turn Tinapa Into University by PFRB: 8:46am On Aug 27, 2018 |
The basic problem of Tinapa is the market. The population with buying power is located away from Tinapa and there is little or no connection. The Aba _Ikot Ekpene - Calabar road is a death trap. That is the only road that connects Calabar to the Market. |

Clueless governor with gap on his head. The most annoying part of it was that shameless Cross River State indigenes trooped out en masse to welcome the dollard when he returned from abroad after a fruitless leave. The people of that State need to have their heads checked. |

AreaFada2:u mentioned lack of transportation as d reason y tinapa didn't work. That's y I asked u how was it possible 4 people 2 patronise obudu which was in a remote part of cross river state(5hours from d capital) yet theres no means of transporting people to tinapa which was in d state capital? |
| Re: Ayade To Turn Tinapa Into University by AreaFada2: 12:17pm On Aug 27, 2018 |
lexy2014:OK. I mean Calabar will need better infrastructure in and leading to it. Like Lagos-Calabar coastal rail line that Jonathan conceptualised in the last few years. A real world class international airport that will enable flying from Yaounde, Accra, Libereville, Luanda, Maputo and such African countries likely to provide many tourists/shoppers. Among others. Tinapa could not be SUSTAINED by the number of visitors that the current amenities can cope with. Such a project would have a slightly better chance around Lagos-Ogun axis. Considering Lagos population, nearness to Ibadan, Abeokuta, etc. Even then international access with our congested MMA, no rail link to Benin-Togo-Ghana will still be a minus. |

crazysam001:No problem. Thanks for a detailed explanation on the reason the project failed. You are absolutely right with the stated fact that our leaders fail to realize that continuity is needed in governance. I really hope our leaders will look beyond personal interest and ego. Thanks for the heads-up. |
