Well my good Sir, that's the idea. It was supposed to expose how society will respond to the advent of artificial intelligence fused with virtual game reality. So, on other words, if such an 'Oasis" were to exist, people will spend more time in it than on the real world and you would probably recognize the animated version of your neighbour than his real form physically.

What you said is fact but they could have given viewers a more mature story than what was presented.
The movie Kicks [2016] could have gone with such simple storyline especially with a fully black cast but they set something deeper.
The movie Ready Player One was set up with a large production budget. What films of such cost mostly do is give audiences a simple story they can chew in addition to big special effects -- this leads to them recommending the movie to friends thereby making more money.

What do you mean by "watered down" sir.

And also watered down in the sense that it was far inferior than the book. I know movie adaptations don't live up to the same quality as the book, but this one had very significant changes. And it ended up feeling very "teen" ish. I was disappointed but I guess it would be a good movie for some.
