Dear Sabi Mamas,

Please help me take a look at my son''s left leg. When we went for his 6 weeks vaccines. The left leg got really swollen though I didn't realise this till I got home. I gave him pcm and did a little ice compress.
I noticed that he doesn't like to put the leg down at all neither does he stretch it out the way he does the right leg.

One day, dh even asked me if his coveralls had the same length. I've been really bothered but I felt it would get better.

We went for his 10 weeks vaccination and that same leg got swollen, however the swelling is yet to fully come down.

Should I be worried or start massaging it and stretching the leg. Not to compare or anything, but I saw a baby who was born on the same day as he was and the baby could stand on the mother''s leg with support while my son can only stand firmly with his right leg. Once you place his left leg, he won't stand.

I will like to know the plaiting hair time and spreading leg too.

Are u washing your baby's hair constantly?. When I newly gave birth, I wash once in a while and started noticing cradle cap. I switched to washing everyday. No cradle cap again. My baby hair is full and even.
I wash constantly o during bath time in the mornings but I don't wash in the evening. Do you wash morning and night? The cradle cap is gone though but it did some damage on the hair. sad

For her neck, ori and reduced clothing should help.
For spreading leg, about 4months should be OK.
For plaiting hair, puff-puff style is better till scalp is stronger.
For the scalp, keep washing daily especially the bald part and consistently apply ori mixed with coconut oil. With time (about 2weeks), it will grow back. Most babies whose hair were cut finds it difficult to achieve the old better hair.

Worried, yes.
Massaging and stretching, not until you see a Paed please. Take him to the hospital and see a Dr.

Thanks for the response sis. We were not given antibiotics. But can i get one to start using for him?

I think u should go back to the hospital just to be safe...

Though I use lots of vitamin c either the syrup and plenty fruits... it will help....

This is the season of catarrh

Plus does anyone have in your house or his playmates??
That might also make it recur.....

Antibiotics should not be given likely to children. So pls avoid that....

Hi, Nobody will give an 8 week old cough syrup. The doctor should know what to do, please see them. For home remedy the only thing I can suggest is ori on the bridge of her nose

Horbalawler:
thanks, will do that, but am worried about them prescribing strong cough syrup for her, was thinking about natural solution for her

Dear Sabi Mamas,

I have called a physio and he asked me to come with my baby so he can see the leg. Though he mentioned that they don't really do much until a baby is around a year old.

Will give updates as we go.

Thank you all.

Some catarrh are wicked and come from the brain when it is infected.
It is usually greenish or very dark hello I'm colour and smelly at times.
Give him plenty of water, lots of fruits especially watermelon, pineapples and oranges.
Give him the vitamin c every single day.
His body will fight the infections off.

But still see a Dr to give proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

Thanks for the response sis,

His nose is not running oooo, it is not smelling or coloured . but anytime he plays or laff too much , once he rub his nose you will just see the catarrh at the back of his hand or his nose.

Another observation is that if he is near you , you feel there is catarrh in his chest , the way it will be sounding.

Thank you all.

I do not think the advice from the physiotherapist is the best.

Waiting till a child is a year old is rather too long.

bone related injuries heal very quickly in babies, so the earlier the problem is diagnosed/rectified, the better.

if there is pain/discomfort/swelling, it might actually be a fracture (tiny bone fractures occur in babies) and he might need a leg x-ray to determine the nature of the fracture and if he needs a cast.

i think you should take your baby immediately to a doctor/paediatrician, who would most likely recommend an x-ray. the x-ray is then reviewed by a radiologist before it is then referred back to the doctor or orthopaedist. consultation with a physiotherapist is further down the chain of events and may not even be required at all.

its possible your chain is in pain and might require pain relief but then again, that will be determined by the doctor.

Mama pls see a paedratician to know the next line of action as a physiotherapist might only do exercise and collect money for different sessions. Act fast mama, injection palsy and LLD is real.
