Please, my dad's appointment was terminated after years of service while he was still hospitalized. Unfortunately, we lost him eventually last June while still in the hospital.

Fast forward till now, recently, his terminal benefit was calculated and the institution issued a check to him in that regards alongside his official termination letter.

NB: We lost our mother (his wife) some years before his demise.

Question: Now that my Mother is the next of kin and she is no more, how do we go about the issue? What are the requirements we need to fulfil to access the benefits. I'm about to take permission from my place of work to travel and process the benefits but I don't know exactly the requirements and how long it will take.

Kindly help me with answers based knowledge or experience.

NB: I'm the first son among his only two children

Get a lawyer to write the employer. Going to discuss with an employer who terminats a sick employee’s appointment due to thier predicament may be fruitless.

Go to his former place of work, meet his friends that knows you and your family , request for his profile file, tell them that you are his son and you wish to process his benefit but want to know who he indicated as his next of kin

There you will see where it was indicated that it's your mother that is her next of kin, inform them that she is late and you have the certificate with you

Get your dad ID card that bears his names. No matter what the ID card is, its surely a form of an ID. Get his marriage certificate and wedding pictures if any.

Get your mum ID, your dad death certificate and your mum death certificate and burial picture if you have and famy pictures where you appeared severally

Go to court federal High Court and swore an affidavit with those items

Couple all and take to the company , its now left for them to acknowledge it or do the needful
