Where are these people crawling out from and screaming Ifeanyi Uba every where. Ifeanyi Uba is not a heavyweight in Nnewi nor Anambra politics. He is wasting his money trying to muscle his way into political prominence but he will never make it.

He will contest till frustration sets in. You guys can make him president Nnewi improvement union but he will never represent Anambra people. What a joke. Obiano doesnt need Uba's campaigning for him, he (Uba) is insignificant and he knows this.

I doubt you know anything about Anambra politics. you failed to tell us how insignificant Ifeanyi Uba is politically. He has what it takes to clinch that seat only that the odds are not to his favour.

Bianca is never a match politically to Ifeanyi Uba any day any time

More like it! Kudos to Obiano for doing this. Long overdue. All Onitsha and Igbo cities littered with our gigantic multi-storey residences need are well paved streets. I also hope they will cover the gutters and also construct pedestrian walkways. Asking for green areas in the already cramped and narrow streets is asking for too much. Again,Kudos. Let him remember Awada and other areas. In my opinion, there should be a long term phase-by-phase plan to pave all inner streets in Onitsha,Awka and Nnewi. Next should be to enact a law that will mandate the landlords to repaint their houses once every 5 years at least. Most of the buildings in Eastern cities are solid and firm. Outward maintenance is the bane. Since the State water corporation is dead,at least let every building sink boreholes to provide water for the residents.

Bianca Ojukwu’s senatorial ambition distorts political equation in Anambra South

THE recent decision by the widow of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Ambasador Bianca Ojukwu to vie for a senate seat has heightened the political atmosphere in Anambra State, particularly the South senatorial zone. Before her declaration to contest for the seat, it was thought that the race for the ticket of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Anambra South would be fought among Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, who was once the chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah of Capital Oil and Dr. Anselm Enyimba, a renowned banker

However, things changed when a millionaire American –based medical practitioner from Umuchukwu in Orumba South local government area, Dr. Godwin Maduka, led many notable people to Ekwulobia in Aguata local government area where Mrs. Ojukwu addressed APGA stakeholders of her intention to run. Maduka has since been carrying the ‘Bianca Ojukwu for Senate’ campaign to all the communities in Anambra South and vowed to deliver her no matter what it would cost.

“Ojukwu is our leader, both in life and in death and since his widow has decided to run for an election, the ideal thing is for everybody to support her. That is what we want to do. We are waiting for those who think they can buy the seat with money to come out as we are ready to challenge them in all areas,” Maduka said.

That decision suddenly made Anambra South a hot political zone for the 2019 election because the other aspirants for the ticket are also people in the good books of the leadership of APGA in view of the support they gave the party during the November 2017 governorship election in the state. That is the dilemma APGA is facing.

At the last count, no fewer than 15 prominent Igbo businessmen were believed to be ready to sponsor the senatorial ambition of Mrs. Ojukwu. Former governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, while speaking during the public declaration of Mrs. Ojukwu said the businessmen had already started mobilizing ahead of the primaries of APGA.

Ohakim, who recently declared his intention to contest for the governorship of Imo State on ther platform of APGA said Igbo people would not watch the widow of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu intimidated by anybody in the name of contesting election and urged those aspiring to contest the position with Ojukwu to have a rethink as it would be a set back to the Igbo and a disservice to Ojukwu for anybody to work against the interest of his widow.“He said: “Those who are contesting the poll with the wife of our leader may have the money and wherewithal to muzzle down Bianca but they don’t have the same integrity.“” Bianca Ojukwu is not an ordinary human being. She has double-barrel identity and double-barrel legacy. We have mobilized 15 Igbo rich people to sponsor her ambition and over 25,000 youths to work for her and enjoined the people of Anambra State not to disappoint the Igbo race in the Bianca Ojukwu project.

Apart from the rich Igbo people who are prepared to bankroll the campaign expenses of Mrs. Ojukwu, the pro –Biafra group have also been drumming support for her. Both the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, as well as the Uwazurike –led Biafra Independent Movement, BIM, have declared their intention to support her.“However, shortly after Bianca Ojukwu’s declaration, some members of the Ojukwu family addressed journalists in Abuja, saying their family would not support her ambition because she is from Enugu State. An unconfirmed report said the gathering of Ojukwu family was at the instance of one of those aspiring for the senatorial ticket of APGA, a development that had caused ripples in Anambra State.

A chieftain of APGA, Mr. Stanley Chuke said it was foolhardy to say that Bianca Ojukwu should not go to senate because she hailed from Enugu State. He said: “Senate is the highest law –making chamber in Nigeria and those in that hallowed chambers are people expected to have made their mark in various spheres of life. Bianca is a lawyer and had been Nigeria’s Ambassador and is therefore very much qualified to become a senator.”

But with the assurance by the APGA leadership to provide a level-playing field for all aspirants, the entry of Mrs. Ojukwu may have changed everything. To allay people’s fear, Governor Willie Obiano, who is the national leader and chairman of Board of Trustees of the party said there would be no favoritism during the primaries because the aftermath of the primaries would determine the future of the party.

While acknowledging that the party has an array of competent personalities vying under its platform, Obiano cautioned the aspirants against all forms of thuggery during the primaries, reminding them that it is only God that institutes leadership

Even sinking boreholes will have long term environmental effects on our cities in the future. The indiscriminate puncture and digging will weaken the soil structure and make it susceptible to landslides, earth movements and erosion eventually. At least,no pro-environmtal laws exits yet to regulate these things. Again, with the lack of proper sewage treatment in our cities, most of the water derived from boreholes are contaminated, unknown to our people. With the exception of state housing in Abakpa and Nkisi in onitsha,no other location I know around has a central sewage treatment facility. I may be wrong though. Advocating for boreholes is a palliative and should be a short term intervention pending when the states get their acts together to provide efficient water supply system or suburbs organise themselves in clusters to have common water plants. I know Enugu state government has a massive water plant at Ajali in Ezeagu LGA and at other locations. The World Bank water programme carried out during Sullivan Chime's regime led to remarkable improvement in providing water for the residents and that was not from Anambra state. There are also many other central locations with boreholes and water plants where Enugu people get water from. How Anambra provides water for Enugu people as declared by you is another wonder. As always, you are trying to reduce this discourse to another dick measuring contest. Smh.

Boreholes may not be the best way to provide portable water, but without them, the alternative will be cholera outbreaks everywhere in Igboland. There is also NO scientific evidence that boreholes cause landslides or erosion as you claimed.

Our cities are packed with population density of European cities. Unless we figure a way to provide portable water and insist that every house must use a water closet toilet system, we would have thousands of deaths from enteric diseases especially cholera.

So while having a central sewage system and central water supply system is desirable, we know our governments are too poor to provide them. If people did not provide these facilities in their buildings, all our gutters will be filled with water proof containing human feces.

Onitsha urban terminal-1 at Upper-Iweka has been put to use. No more parking anywhere you see on the road because OCHA brigade and ATMA are always on our roads to maintain orderliness. It is a ''park and pay'' facility. It has decent convenience and administration office. The urban terminal-2 is under construction.

They should build many more of these types of parking spaces along the entire breath of the expressway along Onitsha to Awka and Onitsha to Owerri expressways.

Parking vehicles of any kind along the expressways must be a banned taboo in Anambra to enable it achieve conducive business environment.

Any offenders to this rule should be immediately impounded and made to pay heavy fines for parking violation.

The water distribution system at ajalli and oji river have all collapsed and none of them is functional. Enugu residents depend on long hauls of water tankers from Anambra state for their water needs. Enter the house of an average enugu resident and you immediately perceive the repulsive odour of clogged toilets begging for the next water delivery from anambra state.

Although it is unintended, I feel somewhat insulted that you would paste even US news stories by journalists as scientific evidence.Yet, i know US journalists research their stories because there are consequences for false news. It is even more atrocious to post Nigerian journalists as scientific evidence. INEC has said cell phones prevent them from conducting free and fair elections. Now you will soon cite that as scientific evidence of factors affecting free and fair elections.

Please don't insult all of us here with that type of beer parlor talk. THERE IS NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE THAT BOREHOLES CAUSE LANDSLIDES, EARTHQUAKES, EROSION ETC that you claimed.

In places with very few rainfalls per year, it is said that water wells or boreholes can make the water level to drop and make newer boreholes or wells to be dug even deeper. The other issue is the potential for diseases in very shallow wells. Even at that, southern Nigeria isn't a place with scanty rainfall like in the sahara desert.

Please learn to research topics before coming here to rubbish the forum as a bunch of uninformed folks by posting ridiculous opinions. You can research "Environmental impact of deep wells and boreholes" in West Africa, Nigeria etc. Please don't post newspaper opinions for us here.

By the way, i also heard that growing Millet, groundnuts and tomatoes predispose a country to droughts and desertification because they suck the water from the soil. grin Now tell me such newspaper articles are also true?

By the way,i never mentioned any American studies neither in my original blog or preceding ones.I saw plenty boreholes located closed to soakaway pits in our cities. I saw some boreholes caving in after a heavy rainfall or after sustained usage. I saw cities without sewage treatment. These and many more will make borehole an unsustainable means of water for us in the future. We didn't disagree here so what's the beef all about? Oga nobody is cursing you. If you know me, i don't engage in such.

I just wanted to point out how ridiculous it is to cite Nigerian newspaper opinions for scientific evidence. Even Wikipedia may be more acceptable than Nigerian newspapers.

Anyhow, i totally agree that boreholes or wells must be at least 30 feet (10 meters) away from soakaway sewage pits. Since soakaway pits are usually behind buildings, we could make it a Public Health law in Nigeria that boreholes are sunk only in the front yard space to ensure adequate distance from the soak away pits.

Every city requires a central water system and sewage system not thousands of boreholes which is not only environmentally hazardous but expensive. For example assuming Onitsha has 100,000 buildings and each borehole costs around 1,000 dollars that is 100 million dollars when a central system would not cost more than 40 million dollarstore.

The Anambra state government is fundamentally disorganized and has to partner with aid agencies and lenders to build these systems in phases in its cities and pay it back over decades.

The best way is to do section by section of a city till everything is covered.

The question is more about whether the ANSG are ready or serious. Basic waste collection they are dismal at.

I totally agree with everything you said.

Every normal city should have the government provide central water system, central sewage system, reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply, adequate waste disposal and safe tarred streets with underground drainage gutters for her citizens.

Is Nigeria normal?

Nigeria has a lot of stupid people in government that have misplaced priorities and poor planning. What happened to Anambra. Water Corporation? Let's assume to put a water and sewage system in place it costs 1000 dollars per building then you finance it and tax buildings over a period of time.

Water is the cheapest resource to provide and few notice it in their bills in most western countries. But Nigeria? People will be brushing teeth in gutter and then selling tomato in it in 2030. India part two.

FG approves fire zonal office in Anambra – FFS boss

The Controller General Federal Fire Service (FFS) Engr. Joseph Garba Anebi has said that the federal government had approved the establishment of Fire Service Zonal Headquarters in Awka, Anambra state, to cover the entire South East.
The CG disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Anambra state governor recently.
He declared that the decision to establish the zonal headquarters in the state, was borne out of the dare need to curb the wanton destruction of lives and property in the state which he said was “known to house the largest market in the West Africa Sub-region with countless industries, investments worth Billions of Naira and a teeming population, is no doubt the right one.”
Anebi confirmed that arrangement was ongoing for the deployment of a brand new fire fighting truck and personnel to complement and supplement the efforts of the state.
He also pledged to deploy more fire engines to the state, as the service acquires more to cover Onitsha, Nnewi, Aguleri and others, considering the industries, market and Airport in these locations.

You all should be careful of this yoruba guy NonsoWow. He is not Igbo but claims to be from Anambra state. His mission is to create a divide between Anambra and our sister states in the East, by making disparaging and condescending remarks about other eastern states. His aim is to give the impression of superiority claim by Anambra people to the chagrin of other states. The overall objective is for Igbos to quarrel and throw punches at each other with claims and counter claims, thereby creating an impression of disunity/disharmony amongst Igbo so as to suit their (yourbas) narrative that igbos aren't united just for their political gains

He first comes off as liberal and diplomatic so you don't get to decipher his evil intention at the beginning, then the disparaging remarks about other states begin to creep in gradually, then you see him arguing vehemently on how Enugu are wawa pigs or Ebonyi are fake igbos, or Imo are prostitutes etc bla....bla....bla...Just a little look at his post history will tell you more about his disingenuous character

Here, he is already claiming Anambra has been supplying Enugu water for ages (whatever that nonsense means), and some of you are replying him thinking it's an innocent comment, he has a motive and that's how it starts. The reason there is no quarrel on that is because there are no Enugu indigens here, otherwise the thread would have being derailed by now

I have warned all of you. Don't take that yoruba FOOL (NonsoWow) serious. I know some of you here are novices, naive and ignorant on certain issues and how things work here, thats why I take it upon myself to get us informed/enlightened as much as i can knowing how cunny, dubious, treacherous and mischievous the average yoruba man is.
