New Minimum Wage: FG Announces Decision On Workers’ Salary by 16Ebiscoo(op): 8:27pm On Sep 27, 2018
The Accountant-General of the Federation(AGF), Mr Ahmed Idris, has stated that salaries of all workers on the Federal Government payroll will be paid in spite of the ongoing labour strike.

Idris gave this commitment on Thursday while speaking to newsmen at the Treasury House in Abuja.

He said: “We have a standing order from Mr. President to pay workers salaries from the 25th of every month, which we have striven hard to fulfill to Nigerian workers and this month will not be an exception”.

He, however, said that the payment of salaries cannot be achieved in an atmosphere where the critical stakeholders are not allowed access to their offices.

“I must explain that salary payment involves a number of processes that do not begin and end with the OAGF.

“There are other critical stakeholders like the Cash Management Department in Ministry of Finance and others who are supposed to do their beat before we can finalise.

“On coming to the office this morning we met the gates of the office locked and wondered how we can keep this promise if we are being locked out of the office.

“After speaking with the local arm of the Labour in the office on the need to pay salaries, they conceded to allow me and some of my staff in but the gates are still locked.”

The AGF further appealed to the national leadership of labour to reconsider their stand on the industrial action, saying the President Muhammadu Buhari government had demonstrated high commitment towards meeting the welfare of workers.

Few months ago the tyrant would have threatened workers 'no work no pay' but 2019 election fever is resetting the dullards brain.

After increase in minimum wage the malu will still be sent back to daura.

Nigeria government will lose a lot from this strike especially the revenue generated.
The best thing is to increase the minimum wage.
Buhari and his cohorts should stop playing politics with the welfare of workers and citizens of the country.

That's the only thing the evil party is good at, owing salaries.

As the NLC fights for increase in minimum wage, what are the other measures the government is taking or would take to improve the economy, curb inflation, create political and electoral transparency and better the lives the citizens?

These are pressing issues we need to address in this country, not only minimum wage.

Meanwhile, never you rely on salary, else you will remain a slave all your life.

Govt workers that earn more than the private workers in same parlance are on strike now. the private workers will not join the strike. Govt school teachers earn more than the private school teachers yet the private school teachers cannot join the strike. Until everyone in this nation rise up to the challenge of personal and collective leadership together with any type of sacrifice needed the needed progress will be a mirage of all sorts.
