Do Vampire Exist?
This a question when asked, will lead to different options about vampirism. While some groups classified vampires as myth, others say they are as a result of imagination of people. But, let us start by knowing the definition of who a vampire is?

A VAMPIRE IS A MYTHICAL BEING WHO SUBSISTS BY FEEDING ON THE LIFE ESSENCE (GENERALLY IN THE FORM OF BLOOD) OF LIVING CREATURES. IN FOLKLORIC TALES, UNDEAD VAMPIRES OFTEN VISITED LOVED ONES AND CAUSED MISCHIEF OR DEATHS IN THE NEIGHBOURHOODS THEY INHABITED WHEN THEY WERE ALIVE.

In modern times, however, the vampires are generally held to be a fictious entity. The charismatic and sophisticated vampire of modern fiction was born in 1819 with the publication of The Vampire by John Polidori; the story was highly successful and arguably the most influential vampire work of the early 19th century. However, it is Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula which is remembered as the quintessential vampire novel and provided the basis of the modern vampire legend.

The causes of vampiric generation were many and varied in original folklore. In Slavic and Chinese traditions, any corpse that was jumped over by an animal, particularly a dog or a cat, was feared to become one of the undead, in Russian folklore, a vampire was said to have once been witches or people who had rebelled against the Russian Orthodox Church while they were alive.

Apotropaic, items able to ward off revenants, are common in folklore. Garlic is a common example, a branch of wild rose and hawthorn plant are said to harm vampires, and in Europe, sprinkling mustard seeds on the roof of a house was said to keep them away. Other apotropaic, include sacred items, for example a crucifix, rosary, or holy water.

In 2006, a physics professor at he university of Central Florida wrote a paper arguing that it is mathematically impossible for vampires to exist, based on geometric progression. According to the paper, if the first vampire had appeared on January 1600, and it fed once a month and every victim turned into a vampire, then within two and half years the entire human population of the time would have become vampires. In 1985 biochemists David Dolphin proposed link between the rare blood disorder porphyria and vampire folklore. Rabies has been linked with vampire folklore due to the susceptibility to garlic and light could be due to hypersensitivity, which is a symptom of rabies.
