Owerri – Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has protested the outcome of elections in Imo, alleging the use of soldiers in the exercise.
Okorocha told journalists in Owerri that soldiers freely molested and harassed innocent people and barred them from exercising their franchise.
He further alleged that ballot boxes were snatched and two people shot at Amala in Ngor Okpala local government area and another in Owerri Municipal.
According to him, one of the victims died while the other person were lying critical at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri.
Okorocha described the election of Saturday as the “worst act of militarization of democracy’’.
He said that what was witnessed in Imo was a far cry from the expectations of the people.
He, therefore, called for the cancellation of elections in Ngor Okpala, Aboh Mbaise, Ehime Mbano, Isiala Mbano, Ohaji/Egbema and Oru East local governments, cliaming that no election held in the areas due to the lack of materials.
Okorocha, however, denied assaulting any INEC official but trailed the commission’s convoy when he learnt that they killed two persons in a motor accident and made away with the corpses.
The governor had earlier complained of the arrest and detention of his Senior Special Adviser, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, and the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Chidi Ibeh, during the elections.

Governor Rochas Okorocha who spoke on Friday night after the announcement of the result of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Primary, at the Nick Banquet Hall Owerri, claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stole President Muhammadu Buhari’s votes in 2015 and made it look like the South-East did not support him.

According to Rochas Okorocha who insisted that  Buhari remains the best option for the South-East region, added that President Buhari will win in the entire South – East in 2019.

“In the 2011 election, the PDP people were able to rig and write fictitious figures to misrepresent the facts on ground.

“But in the 2015 election, the PDP also manipulated the results of the South – East states to portend dislike and resentment for Muhammadu Buhari.

“What we are doing today is the APC Presidential Primary for President Muhammadu Buhari.

“It is also very clear that the president is contesting the 2019 presidential election on the platform of APC as the sole candidate of the party.

“But like the constitution approves, whether it’s one person or more than one candidate, the electorate must exercise their franchise.

“So, we have come to show our love towards him by queuing to vote for him massively.

“We’re doing this to know the number of the Party members from each ward that are approving his candidature for 2019 presidential election.

Prominent Nigerians have decried the siege laid by soldiers to the home of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Imo State Government House, the official residence of Governor Rochas Okorocha.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday decried the unconstitutional deployment of military personnel to the residence of Tinubu on Bourdillon Road in Ikoyi, Lagos, western Nigeria.

Fashola said the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan “has resorted to intimidation of the opposition parties and frustration of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in its bid to glue itself to power.”

Speaking during the APC campaign rally at Ejigbo in Oshodi-Isolo LCDA, Fashola said the Jonathan administration “is a government that lies with everything. They have removed security from the head of the commission”.

The governor said the deployment of troops to the residence of Tinubu was unconstitutional and undemocratic, but vowed that APC would not be intimidated.

“Our votes will speak for us,” he added.

“When the president was begging for our votes in 2011, he did not use soldiers and was begging us. He was saying he had no shoes. After we helped him, what has he been doing? He has been inflicting pains on us,” he said.

Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State said on Wednesday that deployment of military personnel to the homes of opposition party leaders would not prevent Nigerians from working towards electing a new political leadership in the country.

“We are not at war, let them go and flush out insurgents that have taken over part of our country. It is really a shame,” he said.

“ I am very optimistic that Nigeria will come out stronger and more united to utilize its abundant human and mineral resources for our nation’s optimal growth,” Wammako told news men in Sokoto.
