If Nigerians deserve an increase of minimum wage from N18,000 to N56,000, then Nigerian transporters deserve an increase in minimum transport fares from N100 to N100, landlords deserve an increase in minimum rent of N2000 per month to N6000 per month and even farmers deserve an increase in minimum price of yam from N150 to N450. When you have more money pursuing the same goods and services, that's economics 101's definition of inflation. Labour has been increasing minimum wage from time immemorial, what had been the impact on the masses? Hyper inflation. Labour should have been fighting for an increase in motorable roads to reduce transport fares, they should have been striking for increase of fertilisers and a reduction of price to make food cheaper. They should have been picketing government houses to provide the masses with good public hospitals and affordable health insurance. What about schools, should labour not demand more schools and free books to bring down school fees? Instead, they are always striking for increase in wages that inflation always overtakes in a matter of weeks. You cannot set minimum wage in isolation of other economic parameters like population, GDP, government earnings, level of infrastructure, etc. Nigeria is one of the poorest nations in terms of GDP per capita. At 18,000 minimum wage, our recurrent expenditure is already over 70% of total budget. If we multiply that by 3, we would need to borrow from China just to pay salaries. We could have zero infrastructural development, which is what is critical for actual economic development. We simply need to create more and better goods and services and inflation will naturally come down. As long as we have more money chasing the same number of goods and services in an economy, inflation is an inevitability. |

We don't believe in minimum wage in this country rather we believe in corruption (If you pay Nigerians #20,000 for banking job their go collect but by the time their sweep all the money in the bank, you go learn). |

SALARY STRUCTURE Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi To President Buhari: A Soldier salary is 49,000 forty nine thousand naira, some no accommodation they rent house outside the barrack no risk allowance instead they sleep inside bush fought to defend the Nation. Where is the change? Change should start with the National assembly: = A Senator receives N36,000,000 (thirty-six million Naira) monthly. If this is divided into two = N18,000,000 million (Eighteen million Naira). The second half which is N18,000,000 (eighteen million Naira) can be used to employ 200 Nigerians, each earning a salary of N90,000 (ninety thousand Naira) monthly. When you multiply 200 people with the number of Senators (109), this will give 21,800 Nigerians gainful employment. In short, 200 Nigerians will be able to live a comfortable life on half a Senator’s monthly salary. A member of the House of Representatives receives a salary of N25,000,000 (tenty-five million Naira) monthly. If this salary is divided in two = N12,500,000 (twelve million and five hundred thousand Naira). The other half, which is the sum of N12,500,000 (twelve million and five hundred thousand Naira) will be enough to employ 135 Nigerians with a monthly salary of N92.500 (ninety-two thousand and five hundred Naira) each. Nigeria has 360 Members of the House of Representatives, half of their salaries can employ 48,600 Nigerians who can live comfortable lives. So, Baba Buhari’s Administration can employ 70,400 Nigerians with monthly salaries ranging from N90,000 to N92.500 accordingly. This is just by dividing the salaries of Senators and Members of the House of Representatives. Half their present salaries is more than enough for them in a country where majority of Nigerians live on less than a dollar a day. (Now think of all the other over bloated salaries and allowances of Ministers and others) You may try this idea Your Excellency, the President... Nigerians, spread this message to Senators and Members of the House of Representatives and others prick their conscience if they have any and to let them know how many Nigerians are not working because of their greed. Transformation should start from the Congress! Pls this is not a matter of politics, tribes, religion or likeness. GOD HELP NIGERIA. |

But why do we like talking about how much the legislature earns but refuse to talk about that of the executive arm. Are the legislatures earning more than the executives that have open check? Tell us how much the ministers earn if you know! |

wirinet:Good talk! Not forgetting that the millions of private sector employees will be grossly affected with these increases because their employers won't increase their salaries. Also some state governors won't increase their workers' salaries. My landlord said to me a week ago that he is waiting for government to increase salaries so that he can increase his own rent. I told him that I don't work with government, he refused to listen to me. You see that. |

wirinet:Respect Sir, Best analysis so far. I guess until Labour Congress plunge our country into another mess before they’d realize that increasing minimum wage ain’t feasible. Same reason I don’t support sowore ideology of 100k minimum wage, that would mess up the economy big time. |
