Okpes themselves decided to be Urhobos, hence the statement that Urhobo is a nation, not an ethnicity. We all know that Okpes do not speak Urhobo and Urhobos do not understand Okpe. When Urhobo Progress Union was formed, Okpe, Uvwie and Isoko leaders were invited to join the group. Okpe and Uvwie joined in, Isoko did not buy it.

If our definition of ethnicity goes beyond language and includes other criteria such as religion, culture, ontology, etc, then Urhobo, Isoko, Okpe, Erhowa and Uvwie are of the same ethnicity, regardless of whatever names we go by. However, we live in a society -as my initial statement indicated- where we are polarised by language and politics and as such, Isoko and Erhowa align themselves as one ethnic nation, whereas Okpe, Urhobo and Uvwie align as one. The Urhobo Council of Traditional Rulers have Okpe and Uvwie monarchs. UPU is well peopled by Okpe and Uvwie representatives, even as far as the Presidency in times past.

Regardless of the above, there are elements within Okpe who do not fancy the Okpe-Urhobo-Uvwie grouping and they are free to. Not all Igbo or Yoruba cultural units/groups want to be under the general tag too.

The above scenario is in no way similar to the Ikwerre-Igbo debacle. Ikwerres have never associated with Igbos, even for expediency. They don't speak Igbo and they don't share common ontology and mythology.

So, I repeat myself again, ethnicity is a complex of language, politics, culture, religion, onomastics, mythology, etc etc. But until someone or a group categorically states who they are, it is better not to assume regardless of what they appear to be.
an Okpe man will never introduce himself as Urhobo, even d Uvwies to an extent(my mum is Uvwie btw)

Not just that he has won. But the gap is really wide.
I am actually wondering how 68 votes could be void with the calibre of people that voted.

You are still saying "if" when Atiku has actually won.
By the way, must OBJ support somebody? Is he not old enough to stay away from politics?

"will never" is an overstretching of reality. Your statement will be better expressed as "Some Okpe men will never..." and that is quite fine. Uvwies don't have that complex. And like I said from the onset, Okpes do not traditionally speak Urhobo, as Okpe is a distinct language (although more than 70% speak Urhobo as either first or second language today). They only CHOOSE to be Urhobo and by "they", I mean the leaders of Okpe including the Orodje himself and the vast majority of Okpe people. If you want to take up ethnicity as a clause, then by all means, we can rightly say Okpes, Urhobos, Isokos, Erhowas and Uvwies belong to the same ethnic group. Whatever term it is called may be subjective. Socio-politically, however, Okpes and Uvwie choose to be Urhobos while Erhowa choose to be Isoko. In times past, all were classed as Urhobo or Sobo.

The emphasis on the above is on the fact that they "choose" to be who they are and identify as such. Ikwerre leaders haven't chosen to be Igbo nor do they identify as such. There are indeed Ikwerre people who may identify as Igbos for personal reasons, just as there are Urhobos who identify as Yorubas or Itsekiri for personal reasons but these are personal interests and not reflective of group identity. In this regard, Ikwerre is Ikwerre and Okpe is Urhobo.

It's commendable you looked at this angle, without prejudice to their level of education, exposure and 'calibre' there are people with special ability at the convention. There may be sight impaired delegates of which I'm not sure alternatives was made for such people to vote with

I am Yoruba but I will gladly support Peter OBI as vice of Atiku. Peter Obi I think is one person that can match the intelligence, smartness of Osibanjo. He has done well to deserve it.
PETER OBI FOR VICE PRESIDENT.
