First team players are called to the U23 on account of injury as part of the recovery process, or a fall out with the manager for football or non football reasons. The example of Sakho at Liverpool, Niase at Everton.

Because you train with the first team doesn't make you a first team player, over the course of the season you will find a considerable number of youth players training with the first team depending on the size of the the squad. This is very normal, some may end up on the bench and or get a few games or indeed no games at all. Even when you get a few games in the first team you are still far away from being established as a senior first team player.

This discussion centres on Iwobi, and the question, was he a first team player for Arsenal when he was invited to the SE No, he certainly was not, that is a simple fact. Why the question to highlight the double standard.

Indeed you will find a lot of players going back and forth from first team to U23 as a matter of routine until they establish themselves as first team players or indeed be dropped if considered not good enough. Its remarkable to note that it was after Iwobi's call up to the SE that Arsenal offered him a long term senior contract in October 2015.

Gernot Rohr has given a strong hint that Jamilu Collins could make his official Super Eagles debut against Libya on Saturday after closely monitoring him at his German club.
“Collins is interesting for us. He has the qualities to play very well for us,” the Eagles coach said.
“Perhaps he will start the game (vs Libya).
“It is not just because he has a good left foot. He has a good physique, he’s quick, he can go forward and he is defensively strong.
“I saw him play for Paderborn when they beat Cologne 5-3 and he did very well.


“Two, three years ago, Paderborn were in the Bundesliga and they now want to come back (to the top flight). They have a really strong team.
“What I also saw from him before the Seychelles game was good, but he had a little injury, he wasn’t 100% to start the game.
“He started the game in Monrovia against Liberia and he was good.”
However, Rohr equally admitted the competition for the left fullback position is open in the absence of Elderson Echiejile, who has yet to secure a new club.
Ola Aina and Bryan Idowu are the other options for Rohr in this position.

He used them to show that first team players can still be involved in scrimmages in a side's feeder team be it U-23 or a youth team like the U-19s or U-18s. Even Hazard have featured for the Chelsea U-23s abi na U-21s before when he was returning from an Injury setback. But it didn't mean he is a youth player. That is the simple point you are working so hard to ignore.
