Good day guys.

I've someone travelling from Canada to Nigeria. He booked a Delta airline that's supposed to move from Toronto to New York then Lagos.

He has just a Canada Visitor visa and doesn't have a U.S visa.

My question is does he need a U.S visa to transit through U.S to Nigeria?

Yes. He needs a US visa.

If he doesnt need to change airport then he wont need a U.S Visa.

As long as he is not leaving the airport, he doesn't need a US visa. His boarding pass which will be issued in Canada is all he needs his connecting flight down to Nigeria.

Many thanks boss. I thought as much. Cos travelling through Europe and UAE or Asia one doesn't need a transit visa. As long as you stay put in the transit airport for your connecting flight.

That's it. In some cases, if your waiting time is too long like 12 hrs, the airline may even take you to a hotel in that city and bring you back to the airport when your connecting flight is due. That way, you can see the city without any extra cost. I have had the experience with a couple of airlines.
