May be the network in your area is poor. Have you tried using another network provider? Also check the Network Type ...is it on 3G, 2G or Auto?

I got the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 a while ago. It turns out it's very difficult to make calls indoors. Using mobile data is even worse.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

But the battery is inbuilt. How can I change the battery, it's non-removable.

Inbuilt batteries can be changed but you need technical assistance to do that.

My shadow for fear oo . Well, between both, should come down to personal preference. I like the Samsung design especially because of course THERE IS NO NOTCH!, some persons will actually pick the Xiaomi just because of that . The Mi 8EE is more powerful actually and kind of rare- a plus for me personally, I also prefer Miui to what Samsung is offering. Make your choice.
