Anything is possible, the execution of the ICRC health worker Hauwa Leman really put FG under pressure.

Elections are around the block and political opponents will use such events to score cheap points, so FG is under pressure to prevent such things from happening and the only way to do that is negotiate or carry out Hollywood style commando raids to rescue hostages.

The 3rd option is to continue what I think their current approach is right now, stall.

Everyone negotiates/pays, protestations to the contrary notwithstanding. Some do it openly, others do it covertly. Which is why I was so disgusted with the hypocritical outrage the last time Nigeria paid. About 19 years ago, Gaddafi fronted the cash for an SA couple held by Abu Sayyaf in the Philippines. In exchange, we helped Libya get off the Western sanctions list and sold them weapons, under "Saint" Mandela. Recently, the Italians paid for a SA/Italian citizen and his SA wife held by pirates in Somalia (our intelligence services identified the group holding them); our Brit cousins recently paid for a SA/UK citizen held in Mali (the French DGSE identified the group, an SA NGO opened negotiations and the Britishers paid via Gilbratar and Malta.
The Yanks just paid for the "priest" in Istanbul. All this is open source info.

Everyone pays, what differs is the method of payment.

If FG met their demand BHTs would not have executed Hauwa. This means they either stalled or just opted not to negotiate/pay ransome in this particular case.

BH was determined to execute her.
There is nothing that BH does that makes sense.
They defy logic as a terrorist group.
From executing their own leaders to going on suicidal attacks..
It was not a stalling tactic on the part of the FG.
BH in all likelihood wanted a HVT released.
This did not happen.
More likely the recent punishing airstikes that may have a killed a HVT.May have angered some demented followers.
Hence this is their response.
Don't expect any releases anytime soon.
Expect more heavy fighting and air strikes.

NA SNIPER WITH AN UPGRADED AK RIFFLE VARIANT

No. That barrel is way too short to be used for a DM role let alone sniping. Also it lacks any real optics. Also neither the 5.45 mm x 39 or 7.62 mm x 39 are acceptable for the accuracy required. IIRC,the only AK sniper derivative, the Dragunov uses the 308 Winchester, aka 7.62 mmX54,slightly more powerful than the 7.62X51 or 7.62 nato.

funny you guys have issues identifying rifles.

That picture is an PSL scoped semi-automatic designated marksman rifle and not a Dragunov SVD.

although they look aesthetically similar but they are quite different.

JUST IN. Nigerian Army participates in Ex CAMBRIAN PATROL in Wales UK: Officers and soldiers of the NA actively took part in EX CAMBRIAN PATROL which is the world’s toughest patrolling test organised by the British Army in Wales and hosted by 160 Infantry Brigade. They distinguished themselves and were given a commendation for their debut performance.

Exercise Cambrian Patrol itself began in 1959, when a group of Welsh Territorial Army soldiers designed a weekend training event, featuring long distance marching over the Cambrian Mountains, culminating in a shooting match on the Sennybridge Training Area.
The COAS Lt Gen TY Buratai has commended the contingent for doing the NA and Nigeria proud during the competition.

PRESS STATEMENT

RE : SOLDIERS ALLEGEDLY KILL 35 YEAR WOMAN IN PLATEAU

The attention of Headquarters 3 Division has been drawn to a story entitled, " Soldiers allegedly kill 35 year woman in Plateau" in both on line and traditional media. The report stated inter alia that, "A 35 years woman, Sarah Edward Nyam, was allegedly shot dead in Fwapwa Doi village of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State on Friday night by men of the Nigerian Army". This Headquarters wish to state categorically that the report was a deliberate falsehood and an attempt to portray the Division in bad light.

I wish to state that contrary to the report the soldiers were in the Dura -Du district and its environs from Monday 15 October - Wednesday 17 October 2018 to provide security to the sniffer dogs deployed to assist in locating the where about of the missing retired senior officer, Major General Idris Alkali (retired) and not on Friday 19 October 2018 as reported by online and traditional media.

Please be informed that on completion of the mission, the troops and sniffer dogs returned to the barracks on Wednesday 17 October 2018. The troops did not engage anyone in fire fight because the entire district has been deserted. No soldier fired any shot. All the ammunitions were duly accounted for by the troops.

The write-up further insinuated that soldiers, "stop people from accessing their homes, bungle their shops, eating our chickens and goats, ransack our homes". This is not also true. This Headquarters had earlier warned residents who fled their homes and business premises to go back and continue their legitimate activities to avoid their respective homes and business premises from being broken into by miscreants/ hoodlums.

The reading public is hereby advised to disregard the news story as it is the antics of the fifth columnists to prevent the Division from locating the where about of the missing retired senior officer. This Division will leave no stone unturned in order to locate the where about of the missing retired senior officer despite the antics of the fifth columnists.

Consequently, this Division wish to warn online and traditional media as well as agents of fake news and other like minded mischief makers that 3 Division will no longer tolerate publication of fake news that are injurious to the hard earned image and reputation of the Division in particular and the Nigerian Army in general.

In view of the above, you are please requested to publish this rejoinder in order to correct the erroneous impression your publication has created in the minds of the good and peace loving Nigerians. Thanks for your usual co-operation.

In his efforts to prevent and counter violent extremism the COAS Lt Gen TY Buratai tasked the Department of Civil Military Affairs to conduct a community resilience programme at some IDP camps in the North East. The programme is part of efforts by the NA to build stronger communities and counter terrorist narratives. The team led by Director of Islamic Affairs Brig Gen Shehu Mustapha also distributed
relief items to the occupants of the IDP Camps as part of the the NA’s contribution to the safety and well being of the IDPs.

Total payments made for the JF-17: $ 14 million + $ 36 million + $ 47 million = $ 97 million.So we are getting 3 JF-17.

With the way our fellow W. African Countries are uparming, potentially with SAM systems ( pantsir, manpads,AAA ).Our diplomats should see how they can get a permanent base in Gambia, Sierra Leone or Liberia, because i don't know how we plan to escort our transport planes over potentially dangerous airspace.
