Oba is the head of Benin Traditional Church. The Holy Aruosa. Centuries old Cathedral.

An Oba of Benin was the first Oba/monarch to convert to Christianity outside Ethiopia & North Africa 500 years ago. After his training in Lisbon/Portugal.
His attempt to change Benin to a Christian Empire was resisted by the chiefs/nobles of Benin. So instead Oba became head of his own church instead of falling under Roman Catholic Church. Till today. Anglican and other churches did not yet exist then.

So Benin has a longer history of Christianity than most.

The Nigerian HQ of Jehovah's witnesses is just outside Benin, the Godfather of Nigerian Pentecostalism Archbishop Benson Idahosa was from Benin, one time head of PFN Felix Omobude too, several other prominent pastors like Christ Oyakhilome, Johnson Suleiman, Omokhudu and more are Edoid people. Edo, beginning in ancient times, continues to play a key role in Nigerian Christianity.
