Congratulations on your POE ! I am flying same airline via Atlanta to Houston. I pray i get all the favour i need. Wishing you a safe delivery.uote author=Soulape post=72359318]Hello all,

I do hope this shows. Being struggling with how to post on Nairaland.

I am a silent follower and I must say this forum has been super helpful. Thank you all.

In the spirit of giving back, I want to write my POE experience.

I flew Delta Airlines at 30 weeks with my 2 yr old toddler alone. Experience on Delta was great, friendly hostesses and good food. No fit-to fly was asked and they give priority to pregnant women. I got to Atlanta after a very long journey of about 12 hrs and we hovered for about 20 minutes because the CBP officers do not open till 5.30am.

The queue was a very long and tedious one considering I had a bump and a cranky toddler to attend to (my advise, make sure you have your stroller with you on the immigration queue if going with a toddler). Fast forward to an hour and half later, I was standing infront of a not too friendly CBP Officer. The conversation below ensued.

CBP: Where are you headed to today?
Me: Houston
CBP: WHat for?
Me: Vacation and Childbirth
CBP: Why Houston?
Me: I have a friend there that we attended College together, I feel she will be able to show me around
CBP: Have you been in contact with any Dr. in Houston
Me: Yes, I have been in touch with Dr. Fagbohun of Oakbend Medical Center (at this point my toddler was really cranky and crying and rolling on the floor)
CBP: Can I see any evidence that you have been in touch with this Dr?
Me: Yes. ( I try to search for the document while trying to calm my toddler)
CBP: Do you pan on giving me this document today?
Me: Yea,my baby is a little cranky. I apologise (I hand him my doctor's correspondence)
CBP: (flipping through the correspondence) How do you plan on handling your child with your pregnancy alone, Is your husband coming?
Me: Yes, he is coming in a month's time. I can handle my child, thats not a problem. I also plan to get a nanny when I get to heavy
CBP: Im not sure you can. You are barely doing a good job right now. Have you contacted nanny services?
Me: Im doing a good job. We just got down from a 12hr flight and waited on a queue for 90minutes. He is tired is all. No, I havent contacted nanny services. I will do that once I settle in. (At this point, I was ticked off at the seemingly lack of empathy)
CBP: Have you made any prepayments at the hospital?
Me: No, just paid to book my appointment. However, I have a cash of $9,000 and more in card
CBP: Can I see the money?
Me: Bring it out to show him..
CBP: (He doesnt count it, He stamps me and my son in)..Hey maam, I apologise if i crossed the line about you taking care of your son, you just seem overwhelmed and I felt it would be a lot of work for you. All the best maam and safe delivery!
Me: (wide grin). Its okay. Thank you!

Took a 2hr flight to Houston from Atlanta. Got picked up by my host at the airport. I stay at a place 20 minutes from the hospital. Contacted my hospital and doctor, and now just chilling for LO to arrive.

Sorry for the long post, I just really wanted to give back all I could. This forum has been to helpful. All the best mamas!

Everybody gets a B1/B2 visa. It's at POE that the CBP officer stamps you in as B1 or B2 depending on the purpose you tell him/her. B2 is for holiday and/or medical treatment, which is what you'd be doing, so you're fine.

Ruthina000:

Good day friends, please I'm using B1/B2 for medicals (for birthing), is it okay?

Vlesparza:

It is important that all patients understand how the self-pay packages work since it seems that Visa Officers are either clueless or ill-informed. The discount packages offered by doctors and hospitals is in itself not a discounted payment that the Hospitals and patients receive. It is, in fact, the same amount that Medic-aid and Insurance providers pay the hospitals and doctors. Even though doctors and hospitals charge an excessive amount to insurance companies, and Medic-Aid, these only pay a fraction of the amount billed and no govt funds are used to offset these bills since they are not only not a loss but paid in full upon arrival, unlike US citizens with insurance. For US patients doctors must submit insurance or Medic-Aid documentation which takes time to process and later receive the payment which takes about 1-2 months process.

Patients should have knowledge of this information and hopefully, have some kind of document that states this at the moment of their interview. As it is, www.doctoresparati.com (ad on every page of this forum) sends a price schedule with this information included as part of the documentation sent for Visa application and POE.

Then the hospital should bill the self pay patients in such a way that they won't get into trouble.

I've used other types of medical services in the US. Highest I got was a 50% discount for paying cash. This seems more believable than almost 90% for birthing. I don't mean to be condescending but that sort discount is only reasonable for garage sales and store giveaways.

Our people are getting into trouble daily at the Embassy because of this and I believe there has to be a way out that would result in a win-win situation for all the parties involved.

Just let the hospital or doctor know you want to pay 50% and not the complete discount they are offering you. I'm sure they will take your payment for the excess amount. Win/win.

@Adommom, can you please share contact details of the virginia hospital you using.

In the spirit of giving back....
I came into Washington Dulles airport on Tuesday via Turkish Airlines... no fit to fly nor doctor’s report asked. Flew at 34weeks. Flight wasn’t so bad on the first leg because I was lucky to get empty seats to sleep. Istanbul to Washington flight was full and so it was 12hrs of torture and discomfort (no leg room and it was tight). Food wasn’t nice at all but I was compensated with the lovely airhost and air hostesses who gave me bread and butter every time I asked for (as that was the only thing I could enjoy).

Arrived Washington Dulles airport late in the evening. Queue wasn’t long as there were just two flights that landed around the same time. Before I could say Jack, I was in front of the CBP officer.

CBP: Good evening
ME: Good evening Sir (he was an elderly man)
CBP: Can I have your passport please
ME: Yeah sure! (Handed it to him)
CBP: why are you here in the US
ME: i’m here for vacation and childbirth
CBP: and how long will you be here for?
ME: 10 weeks
CBP: do you have any food?
ME: Yes please, I do! I have frozen pap, grounded egusi, grounded Ogbono, garri, pepper (I kept listing and listing until he interrupted...)
CBP: do you have any fresh foods say banana, orange, meat, fish....
ME: oh no...not at all
CBP: ok
CBP: Welcome to America!
ME: Thank you!

And that was how he stamped me in oo. He stamped and wrote “July x6” (has anyone experienced this before?) Just to be double sure, does this mean I was stamped in for 6months?

Was thinking I would be sent for secondary inspection cuz of the foods I mentioned or that I had a baby here 2 years ago but nothing oo...that was how I sharply exit the place...no Sec inspection, no agric! How much I had on me wasn’t asked? Not one of my documents was checked from the point of exit up to POE! The interrogation lasted for a minute or possibly less sef...it was super fast!

I give God all the glory ooo and thanks to all lovely Mamas & Papas in the house for giving back to this thread. It was a supersmooth POE experience!

I wish you all the very best at whatever stage you are in on this missionary journey!
Greetings house. Old timer here but I need help in scheduling an interview appointment under the 221g category. I'm actually looking to use the Abuja consulate for this interview due to the non availability of close enough Lagos dates even though I used Lagos for the initial drop box application..First of all, is this possible?
The main problem I have now though is that when I access my profile to schedule an appointment, only the available dates list pop up and then a Submit and Cancel tab, no 221g category tab, no location tab, And I gather that you only get one chance to schedule an interview under this category, unlike if it's a fresh application that you can reschedule up to 3times if I'm not mistaken.
Please can someone help? I've actually sent a mail through the feedback tab to the consulate but I'd appreciate if anyone here can field this question as I am quite pressed for time and need an Abuja interview date that is close enough.
Regards all

Hello dear
Did you call requesting for an earlier date? I just got the 221g and the dates are showing April next year which is past my EDD
Should I go ahead and book it hoping they reschedule as my plans are to leave in Jan?
Please I need your response

I just received an email that my 221g appointment has been rescheduled to an earlier date.

First it was late Jan-2019 date, then it was moved backward to a date in 1st week in Jan-2019.

I have just received another email that it has been rescheduled to a Nov-2018 date. A date which falls on a Saturday.

Question is does the embassy open on Saturday? Who has ever visited on a Saturday?

I am confused

Had my baby girl at Henricho doctor’s hospital n used Dr W.F
Presented at the emergency after my EDD wen I started contracting but after bin observed for about 6-8hours was told to go back home to avoid accumulating bill since i wasn’t dilating but after about 24hours I had my baby.

Was discharged 2days after delivery
Hospital fee
Mother $2100
Baby $275
Got my zero bal reciept bfor i left the hospital.
Emergency fee $1471
Came in after about a week of discharge, called the financial counsellor and it was further discounted to $176.52
I made sure it was a discount n not Medicaid or any form of insurance.

Doctor fee-$850
My naija medical investigation report were approved
First doctor appt fee -$120 den subsequent visit $30
Did about 2 investigations approx $150
Also paid an additional $100 for the emergency

Peadiatrican fee 1059$ was given 25% ($794)discount which was to be paid within 30 days.
Epidural fee $6500 called n was also discounted to $1450
Hearing test cancelled.
Paid all fee over the phone n got zero bal receipts in d mail.
Follow up peadiatrician $250 for 2 visits at Gaithersburg MD

SSN came in almost a month after delivery
The lady at vital statistics refused to collect my money order for BC at d hospital.
She told me to call after 4 weeks to know if it’s has bin processed n den go pick it up at DMV while I drop d money order.
After several calls was told it wasn’t processed because d money order was not dropped n I was advised to send in a new application which I did n got my LO’s BC in less than 2 weeks

US passport application $175
I was told to come pick it up nxt day but I left it til d day I went for naija passport interview.
Naija passport $77
For pick up June 26 but showed the person in charge my flight itinerary n was told to come after 2 days.

Accommodation: My sis made herself available for me during my appt days.
About 3hours drive from MD to Richmond.

Bought my LO’s ticket $102 (Turkish Airline)at the airport
On board bassinet was provided.
Had 23hrs layover at Istanbul , was able to pay for my LO’s e-visa online using my Skye bank dom acct card bfor departure but I did mine at d self hlp desk paid with my GTB naira master card.
checked in to the hotel n had complimentary breakfast.

During this missionary journey DH went for his visa interview twice, he was refused the first time, reapplied n got interviewed after I delivered n was approved.

Everythng I learnt was from dis forum.
Thank you all.....
So I have family members in Chicago and Maryland.

I would like to ask, how do I check for hospitals in both Chicago and Maryland. “ if anyone knows any hospital in Chicago or Maryland and the average cost” I’ll appreciate please.

Thank you.

I passed through the dreaded Chicago POE grin grin and had a very interesting encounter.

I came to the US for a business meeting and had no business with Chicago o but BA decided that I must pass Chicago before getting to my final destination.

Got to the CBP officer- White guy

Cbp: what are you here for and how long
Me: told him
Cbp: where do you work
Me: told him
CBP: when last did you come to the US and what for
Me: i had a baby the last time I came (I was tired jare plus had a connecting flight to catch so I went straight to the point)
Him: Why did you have your baby in the US
ME: DUAL citizenship
Him(Visibly upset): How much did you pay?
Me: Told him and I added that I had renewed my visa after that and was asked all these questions at the embassy
Him(very angry and raising his voice at me): Your child can NEVER be an American. You think you can just come here and give birth and he becomes American? He can never be one. Show me your ticket I want to be sure you are leaving my country.

Me (showed him my return ticket) Him: (Raising his voice now) Get out of my face... Just Go... Get out
Me: eh... have you stamped my passport?
Him: Just get out!
Me: jejely carried my passport and checked that he had stamped me in
Carried my bags and went to catch my connecting flight.

In all this, I was very calm... I didn't let him bother me at all...

There you go! My experience at ORD
