Even the wig is an imitation of colonial Englishmen rolled up hairstyle.

I like what u posted here:

One of the editors of the Nigerian Lawyer blog wrote that wigs weren’t made for the sweltering Lagos heat, where lawyers wilted under their garb.
“The culture that invented wig and gown is different from our own and the weather is different,” Unini Chioma wrote.
......

But seriously guys, doesn't this fellow look like some sort of an idiotic caricature?!
UNBELIEVABLE!!

You dig up the picture of a sound lawyer who spent hours representing his client in court, you paste it on social media and then you call him an "Idiotic Caricature"!!

You're the one who's unbelievable.

You guys need to be careful. There are now laws regulating the Nigerian cyber space. If you're arraigned in court over this despicable conduct, hope you'll be able to defend yourself without the services of lawyers.

I will not support the scrapping of the wig owing to the religious nature of this country. Covering of the head with hijab or any other flamboyant material by female lawyers will be the next issue to be solved upon a successful abolition of wig wearing. Moreso, male lawyers will debate whether to use cap (fila) or not or what type of cap to be donned upon appearance in court.
I think instead of subjecting the judiciary to these unnecessary vagaries, there could just be a change in the colour of the wig from white to black.
This is a black country and there should be traces of anti-colonialism and anti:racism. I humby submit!

The entire criminal justice system from law enforcement to the prison system is stuck in post colonial psychological trauma similar to the infamous Stockholm syndrome whereby we have adopted and loved everything the colonial oppressors foisted on us.

Nearly 60 years after independence from colonial rule, why do our lawyers still wear these things on their heads?

Is it that we cannot devise a home-grown attire for our lawyers, or is it that we so love the colonial rulers and exploiters of our land, that we just cannot let go of their legacy?

Did somebody do juju on us to turn us into mumus where the colonialists are concerned?

India, Pakistan, and parts of China were colonised by the British. But their legal systems have jettisoned those colonial wigs ages ago.

In Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and other ex-colonies, still continue to wear them.

What is wrong with us as a people?

Seriously, we need to approach our ancestors for forgiveness, in case we did something to them that made them place a curse on us, that has turned us into dumb mumus without basic common sense and dignity, especially where it concerns Europeans.

Imagine for a second how the white people will be laughing their heads off when they see us wearing these things, a full sixty years after independence.

It's truly disgusting.

You are a bit misinformed the wig isn't a sign of colonial subjection but uniformity in the law court and your reference about wigs being colonial tell me which tribe in Nigeria wore suits before the colonial era. Yes it was imposed at first but now its a way of life. The problem with this country is people always looking for whom to blame. We've been on our own for 50+ years now and were even going in the reverse direction.

The reason is that; we have English law which is the system of law that was developed in England till present. It includes what is known as Common Law.
Now, this common law is a body of law derived from Judicial decisions of Courts from similar tribunals or you call it court cases. It is known as Judicial Precedent. This Judicial Precedent is used when there is too much argument towards a ruling, in such case, the court now rely and adopt past similar dispute on how it was resolved.
Now let me come in clear terms, this common law or Judicial Precedent mostly trace back to cases in England. So you see, we are not totally colonized, because they(England) still feed us knowledge when we are in the dark.
That is why we can't change appearance let let alone that Wig, because we practice English Law.

Not a lawyer though, its a little clue gotten from a borrowed course

There is nothing wrong with this attire it's not as if they wear it forever! It's a uniform!

It makes them look professional. Are the lawyers complaining or is this another conspiracy to make hijab formal

We have more pressing issues and you are talking about wig undecided

I beg to differ. It makes them look silly.
White hair is normally found on old people. Naturally, that implies wisdom with age. This is the main origin of the wig.
Do black people not have their own white hair? If elders in your village, women and men put this thing on their head, will you take them as sane?

So you are telling me that without any external influence, black people will unanimously come up with such atrocious head piece? It doesn't not resemble anything on this continent.
Women that put on Brazilian hair regularly, yes the hair is imported BUT it resembles our hair. It blends in with the overall look of the person.

This wig does not blend in. It is not a fashion statement. It looks like something foolishly imposed upon oneself as a result of inferiority complex.

It’s just a case of mental slavery.

The Europeans gave us Christianity, but we now have more churches and claim to be more religious than them. Same with Islam.

What a delusion?

They don’t wear this same law wigs again, but in Nigeria it’s still a norm and a dress code

I had an issue with my lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry practical class way back in the University when I refused to put on my necktie because the weather was hot and there was no enough ventilation in the lab.

That’s crazy.

In 2Pac’s voice...Fvck the LAW

We are still in slavery but it's a different type of slavery. We are still being enslaved mentally, spirituality, intellectually, but we no longer remember. A slave owner once said "the best slave is the slave who don't know he is a slave." I was just thinking about it yesterday and it dawned on me that our ancestors were actually smarter than us. At least they knew they were slaves and they fought it off.

And yes, our ancestors placed a curse on us for loving foreigners more than ourselves. Nothing would be done until we all wake up at once and realize that the white man has left.

But bro why do you wear shirts, T shirt and suits (if you do) which are English wears? and not only native attires. Sometimes we over dramatize things.

Nothing was invented in Europe before the 14th century, except spears and bomb. They couldn't have invented T-shirt because they lived in the cold. T-shirt must be an invention of someone from the tropics. Suit may have been introduced them by the moors.

No matter the level of education that a Nigerian attains, s/he is still a child. Even if you free a Nigerian slave, s/he put the chains back, lock it and give the keys back to the masters. The significance of those rags on their head is very disturbing. The wig alone is the main reason I have zero respect for any lawyer in Nigeria.

Where is the picture of that stallion tied to a plastic chair.....indeed the mind is a very powerful tool and those who are shackled by it can never break free.. ..even the so called learned fellows. As I rise in my profession and advance in knowledge my wardrobe is positively changing from suits and ties to polos and sneakers. If you like don't come to my office. Na your wahala be dat. My performance is improving. Little else matters. Even after work these days I seldom change to attend evening church activities. I am me, the same person.
