South East Governors Forum (SEGF) has rejected the police report which indicated that the security incident at the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, was a burglary and not an assassination attempt.

The governors made this known on Wednesday through the Director General of the SEGF, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya who addressed a press conference in Enugu.

“The forum calls on the Police and other security agencies to undertake thorough investigation and bring the culprits to book. We reject the hasty conclusion that the attack was a case of burglary, otherwise, the so-called “’burglars’’ would not have insisted on the Deputy President’s son taking them to his father’s bedroom. The careful and methodical execution of the plot points to something more sinister than burglary,” he said.

While condemning “the attempted assassination of His Excellency, Senator Ike Eweremadu,” he said “his attempted assassination, no doubt, casts a dark shadow on the state of security of lives and property in Nigeria.”

Also, the governors berated the federal government for abandoning the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu and the second Niger Bridge projects.

“We want to use this opportunity to once again call on the Federal Government to come to the aid of the South East and deal with the infrastructural decay at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

“We restate that the airport is not safe as there are no runway lights, the tarmac is bumpy with potholes, while one of the buildings destroyed by storm for over two years has become an eyesore. The cargo section of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport is not functional.

“It is, indeed, a shame that a whole region as economically robust as South East does not have an airport that can land all categories of aircraft. The Federal Government should please come to our aid by making the airport more functional.

“We are aware that the Governor of Enugu State His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has taken up the challenge of helping to fix Akanu Ibiam International Airport, but we know also that the burden is too heavy for a state government. That is why we are calling on the Federal Government to come to our aid.

“We also want to use this opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government to take the issue of Second Niger Bridge seriously. The Niger Bridge is arguably the gateway to the Eastern part of this country with business hubs of Onitsha, Nnewi and Aba, amongst others.

“We note with concern that the second Niger Bridge has become a political chess board in the hands of politicians seeking Igbo votes.

“We have become aware that it was only in July, 2018, that the contract for the second Niger Bridge project was signed, in spite of the fact that the first foundation laying ceremony was undertaken in 2013. We pray that this will not be another lip-service to the realization of second Niger Bridge.

“We earnestly appeal to the Federal Government to assist the South East region by ensuring that the second Niger Bridge is completed,” he said.

If it was a case of assassination why then did they spare their lives?

Many of us are threatened on daily basis by armed robbers, thugs, agberos, pick pocket, Fulani herdsmen,SARS,ANTI CULT, etc yet nobody raised a voice in our defence.

Is his life more precious than those who die daily from hunger, road accident, lack of access to quality medical facilities, Fulani and ethnic attackers, book haram, and the rest?

I pity none of those who cause our misery........ Ike should go to hell

Your deputy Senate President came under attack.

His security details were suddenly nowhere in sight.

But police are quick to release a report without taking statement of the people involved.

God delivered Ekweremadu from being added to that number and all the incompetent police under an incompetent tyrant could do is release a report shielding the suspects from attempted murder charges.

I am more concerned with the 2nd part of the report...Nigeria has been extreemly unfair to igbos
And am talking of both pdp and apc....both obj, gej and pmb.

So the 2nd niger bridge which became necessarry since the 80s is still being denied the east? Yet lagos mainland alone has 3 bridges...with a 4th one being considered...

So the se is the only zone without an international airport...and somehow the rest of the country is ok with it...the thing is that nigeria will never truly develope...unless they carry the east along...u all can bet on that...and as i said..its not about pdp vs apc...its about igbos vs the rest of nigeria

South East Governors Forum (SEGF) has rejected the police report which indicated that the security incident at the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, was a burglary and not an assassination attempt.
It is a deliberate violation of his fundamental human rights.
And when you talk the Truth, they become paranoid and start trading on Hate Speech as if the baddest can't interprete the best.
The sw, ss and the cs should join the se to stop this nonsense.
They are even arranging to burn Nigeria just in case. For how else can anyone explain the spending of N12billion on fire fighting equipments that will be spread at the borders of each of our 36 States? Is it not to cause Mayhem and call it Burglary , all to protect and guarantee The Miyetti Allah Fulani Herdsmen Takeover Nigeria. Nigeria is not Sodom and Gomorrah. God has a Plan for Nigeria.

Ekweremadu should go on and release the video of what happened, to shame this incompetent Idris of a police.
What is a burglar looking for in a high class citizen's place, a place with water tight security.
Infact he should change his security details ASAP. BUHARI AND HIS BROTHERS can't be trusted.Nigeria will boil if any high class politician from any region is assassinated.

They said it wasn't a burglary, what type of weapons were d culprits carrying that makes them feel it was actually an assassination attempt?. They are now calling for rehabilitation of Airport nd completion of Bridge, when it's finally done, nobody will hear thank you, but reminding men of how GEJ or PDP started it, initiated it... As if they were not around to influence those who initiated the project to complete it.
