Having interest to work in offshore oil rig,can you abandon ur five year working experience in a particular field and join rig work,but will start as a Roastabouts which is the lowest cadre in Rig work.The project will lasts like one year after which if there is another project,you continue with them,if no other project,u will find ur way and start looking for job elsewhere.Will u do such especially if you have been working in a particular place for some years, the salary is not ok for u and ur job is not challenging,you have been trying to find new job,yet not forthcoming.So can you resort to this Roastabout stuff?.

@ kulas,to answer ur questions it all depends on what ur rostabout job is offering. i work in d rig myself as a subsurface engineer.my question to u is,wat is ur current job lik,wat is d new offer lik,wat are u future plans,can u get other jobs b4 d expiration of dis project?

I am not sure of next offer after the project.The fact is that i have been trying how i can get another offer and leave my present company on the condition that i am not getting challenges on the job,secondary it looks more of a contract job(company employ you and will send you to another company),thirdly,the salary is not ok.So i need a job where i can have a rest of mind,build my future and career and plan for my life.Thats why i am talking of the Roastabouts whether one can enter there and build his career in Rig work.The only issue is getting afraid,whats next in case the project finish and they cant continue,will it be possible to find an offer after that.

I think I understand your problem. No job satisfaction and most importantly, salary is not ok.
But the first question should be ''what is my career path''?
''Does my present job offer me the tools I need to build a more comfortable career ''?
With this you can then decide if you have to move out to a different career path or not.
Less I forget, I was once in your shoe so, I know the desperation.

ok now i undastand ur challenges on ur current job.take the roastabout job and am sure u can build a career in the oil and gas,dnt forget u need to develop ursef while tryin to achieve these and let me state here that i also joined the world lasrgest oil and gas company as a contract staff about 9yrs ago but with hardwork,dedication,God and patience i became a full staff in less than 4yrs.One thing i also know about most rig projects is that they dont end after one year because there are several issues that mite even delay/elongate the project beyond one year
