So, elders in the house, tell me the do's and don't relating to Xiaomi redmi 5plus. Also, I can see that my android version is 7.+ and not 8.0
Besides, I am a huge fan of portrait mode and I need help in relation to that.

First things first, no need to root.

Secondly, download the latest full rom from the xiaomi site, copy it to your phone and install it via the updater app. It is about 1.5gb or so. That will unlock android 8.0 and miui 10 goodness for you.

It's not compulsory you download the rom to a computer and then transfer to your phone though.

If you have access to a fast wifi network you can simply go to the "about section" of the phone and install the update from there.
