I think you are the one making ignorance your full time job. I am going to ask you few question that I know you won't answer me. First, was there an agreement between ASUU and FG? Second, did the FG kept to their own part of the agreement? Third, what do you suggest ASUU should have done apart from strike? If you must answer, answer sensible.

Most people will not understand the import of ASUU actions. If not for their agitations and comstant presuure on the government, higher education would have degenerated beyond what obtains now. How many people still send their children to LEA Primary schools and Government secondary schools? Certainty not any member of the middle class - if it still exists. The ruling class would have bastardised public tertiary institutions so we all will clamour for their own private universities. We should really understand that the acrions is to engender a better tomorrow. Indeed, if you know any lecturer, his standard of living will prove to you that they are GROSSLY underpaid and their struggles usually do not rransform to more incomes for them. The only have a big title LECTURER but with empty pockets most of the time

Don't make ignorance your full time job, use your brain to learn something else.

OAU the father of strike has left ASUU. Go and find out the reason for yourself.

No, you should not spread ignorance like a cold. OAU has not left ASUU. The university's chapter has a problem where the leaders of one of the factions were expelled from the union. It thus makes it easy for the university administration to pretend that no lecturers are on strike. Lecturers in ASUU (OAU) are very much on strike, while those in the splinter group are not. Now, you know.

As to whether ASUU is impotent or not: I agree that the union has barked up the wrong tree on occasion. Be that as it may, without ASUU, public tertiary education would have collapsed by now. Government has abdicated its responsibilities to public primary and secondary schools. They would do the same at tertiary level but for ASUU's neck lock. I know this because it has already happened at primary and secondary levels.

The overwhelming majority of intakes into my university (a top federal university) are now from private secondary schools. Products of public schools are probably trooping to colleges of education and polytechnics. So, rich kids get into top universities and poor ones find lower-ranked alternatives, after a caricature of a secondary education. The only thing stopping a similar gulf in quality from opening up at the tertiary level is ASUU.

So, keep demonizing ASUU, but know this: if the day ever dawns on which government breaks the back of ASUU, lecturers are not the ones who will suffer. You can take that to the bank.

This Prof just wants to grab attention if not all this theatrics are not necessary. The truth remains that ASUU won't even bother to disrupt whatever activity he wants to engage in. As a Dean he is currently a management staff and no one expects him not carry out that function. What he should know is that just as he claims he can sue ASUU so also can other members of staff in his faculty sue him if he tries to force them to break the strike. The Prof should also remember that his current salary and retirement age of 70yrs instead of 65 are products of ASUU strike. Most of his lecture theatres, library, office spaces etc were built by products of ASUU struggles. A day will come when he will nolonger be in that exalted position and the question will be asked of what he did to improve the system which has given him so much.

That Prof shouldn't be taken serious. Once the strike yield dividend, would he reject it?. Talk is cheap

Nothing like any homework my brother, the facts are there to be seen that even a blind man can testify to. Surely I may say I understand what you may be saying but I strongly believe their are other means of them showing their grievances with the government than this way, atleast dialogue is the best solution to every fight as history has showed. Finally you don't continue doing the Same thing and expect a different outcome.

The present OAU left because it doesn't concern them but when the dividend yield, they will be at the forefront agitating for their share. UNN did similar thing few years back but when it affected them they joined back. Don't be deceived by these lecturers and drama

His suggestion isn't consequential. A union that has the most educated members in Nigeria should know ways to settle trade dispute other than exacerbating the already aggravated situation. If they can't, the union is simply unproductive and a pain in the ass of Nigerian students.

Yes, there was an agreement between ASUU and FG and No, FG is unable to keep up with the agreement. Should we all be out of school for this reason? You need to answer that.

Lol.

Visit any university. Ask if they have projects funded by TETFUND. You will find that almost every new project of note is funded by TETFUND. This is a *direct* outcome of ASUU industrial actions.

While there, ask the staff how many lecturers and even non-teaching staff have been sponsored abroad for graduate studies. Find out how many lecturers used to bother returning after graduate studies, and find out what the figure is now.

Don't stop there o. Ask them how successful they were in retaining their good students as lecturers in the days of poor salaries. Ask them what the picture is now with the marginal improvement in remuneration.

If you're indeed wiling to let go of preconceptions and face the truth, you will realize that ASUU's tactics have worked over time. So why did you say they should stop using those tactics again? Right.
