But why is the common weapon of attack always trying to put the other person down as a new migrant or JJC. It’s very distasteful please. Especially on a thread dedicated to help such people. You are not better than someone simply because you migrated before they did.

This is not me whining or anything. Just something I noticed since landing here in Canada and going out and about.
Many of our Nigerian brothers act all cold when you greet them then get warm when greeted by a white.
Really.
Like your sucking up will change your complexion?
The friendly ones know better, I suppose. They give you pointers on how you can get settled in easily and integrate.
One man snubbed me this morning when I greeted him twice at my daughter's school, but got all chatty with one woman who was white. His daughter and mine are in the same class so I was wondering what the superiority complex was all about.
Shior.
What pained me most for him was that the woman didn't hear anything he was saying because even on the verge of swallowing his tongue to speak Canadian English, she wasn't just understanding. Kikikikiki.
Ok, seriously now.

Please seniors, let's be nice to ourselves. Tenkiu.

I’m sorry madam I do not agree with you. We are quick to invalidate others. If I approach you on the street all smiling and expressing cordial greetings, would you respond to me accordingly. Please first note that you don’t know me and my being a Nigerian doesn’t instantly make me familiar with you. I am still a stranger. Skin color has nothing to do with it.

However, if I was introduce to you by a common acquaintance, don’t you think it would make our introduction seamless?

Please let’s not be quick to presume that Nigerians are snobs. I have met fantastic Nigerians and some Nigerians who just want to be at peace with themselves probably we don’t share common interests. It’s human nature and has nothing to do with a specific type of people, race or country. Even the whitey, after you discuss with them today, tomorrow they see and blank their face like they don’t know you.

Maybe I should ask you where are you located.
I live in London, Ontario which is mostly white.
When in London I always make sure I greet every single black I meet.
However, when I am in Toronto or Montreal, I just ignore black people given they are too many. In other words, you are most likely to be ignored by black in big cities.

Now talking about the man who snubbed you in your daughter's school and then became chatty with a white lady, maybe they knew one another. Maybe he has a crush on the white lady.

I am not discounting your experience in any way. I know our people can be funny sometimes.

With respect to the bolded, issoftandmoist is a lady and you are a man. Of course any lady would rise her defense mechanism when been approached by a smiling man.
However, if a black man approach a black lady in a place where no other black lives, things may be different.
Nevertheless, some black who live among white people see the presence of other black people as a competition. How ridiculous! That could be the type of black softandmoist is complaining about.

But a white will never ignore another white because he is white.
When in the midst of black people, a white will see another white as an allied.
But in the midst of white people, some black would look at other black as competition.

The way you quickly took it personal. Eya fa. cheesy
You didn't read my post at all. That's my conclusion. It's not like I was expecting him to run and hug me sir. I greeted him twice and not even a nod to acknowledge me? He's a snob. He's forming. He's even annoying me now as I'm thinking about it. (I just typed that for fun, he can't get to me at all). If you know how much we've been blessed by Naija brethren here, you would know God will straight up seal my mouth with a slap if I say they're snobs.
Please read my post again. Or don't.
P.S. I don't even care if he exists o, it's the Yoruba in me that made me greet.

So true...I just don't understand them sha. Well have adopted my own pattern, I dey approach you I flash you head ups, if you acknowledge am, we greet wella, if you blank me, I switch off kwa pass you. I must say from my little observation, truth be told some of the Yoruba folks, appear nicer and ready to relate with you, compared to some of my fellow Igbo guys who will only wanna talk when they have coded finally that I am Igbo like them. But anyhow sha, na come we all come, and we all go survive and make am.

People are talking from experience. I have had my own fair share of it. Some Nigerians snub you outrightly, that is the truth. We are not saying, you owe anybody any greeting or hailing or heads up or hi on a good day. But, it is in our nature to hail a brother "what's up" when you cross path on a goodday. But, bros, some people no dey even do like say them see you, talk-less of responding to your greetings. It is not as if you want to stop and have conversation with anybody. Just normal hailing, person go just blank you as if una dey quarrel. But we have some correct people sha wey dey catch person network from far, and answer you wella when you hail.

They don't know each other.
We were in the hall way waiting for the bell so the children could be admitted and I heard him asking the woman if she was cold because she wasn't dressed like us, and then introduced himself. The conversation didn't sound like he'd met her before. But let me leave it there at the risk of sounding bothered.

I go out and meet blacks and I smile and nod or just wave. Sometimes, like on a bus, I don't do anything. But I greet you twice and you act like you're hard of hearing, only to start telling someone you think is 'better' hare yu feeelinggg cauld?

I don’t know about Whites not ignoring themselves. I am not a white man and I really just don’t care about them. I get to read about this competition alot from Nairaland - what competition? On what level? Except you are part of the super rich that can employ lawyers and accountant to assist you avoid taxes, then I can understand. Canada is a leveler. The taxation brings everybody to equilibrium.

Hence anybody with the mindset of this Competition that I get to read a lot is deceiving themselves. You can virtually afford anything.

If a black man sees another black man as THE COMPETITION, that black man is insecure and uncomfortable with his own skin. This is my own opinion.

Quite strange copr wasn't accepted. As per the health card, it could take up to 2months to receive one by post. If you applied online, you would have a status update which would determine when your eligibilty has been completed. This could take up to 6 weeks if you landed around the time of school resumption (International students clog the system).

If you call saskhealth at around 6 weeks after application, you may be given your healthcard number over the phone. That is all you really need. You can call saskhealth to determine the current status of your application if you did not apply online.

I can weigh in. To begin with if someone smiles at me and says hello, I will do the same regardless of their race. It's simply the human thing to do. I've also went out of my way to help newcomers to Canada, from relatives to strangers, regardless of what race or country they come from. Hence why I'm on this thread. But if I see a black stranger I'll say hi/hello but that's it. Unless I was introduced to them by someone else, or you're a colleague and I've gotten to know you well enough to trust you. Other than that, forget it. Why ? You said it. Blacks in North America view other blacks as competition. The co-workers who have stabbed me in the back and have attempted or gotten me sacked were black Africans. White people are 2 faced and have no loyalty to me as a black man, I know. I keep them at arms length and know my way around them. But black Africans ? If I don't know you, stay in your lane and hi/bye is all you get. Unless we get to know each other and I start to trust you. The things what blacks would do here to advance their career, objective, etc to other blacks is sickening. Lastly, in this part of the world, a lot of people suffer from mental health issues, or they just want to be left alone. It's not by force. It doesn't mean anything negative if someone isn't out-going smiling and saying hi to everyone.

Some companies may look to hire, keep, or promote their token black employee, but there are 2 black employees including yourself. That other "black brother" will do everything in their power to belittle you and your work, to make sure you get sacked or don't get that promotion. A black police officer will go to a black neighborhood and harass the citizens there, even more than his fellow white officers, in order to get a promotion and become a Sergeant. These are small examples.
