The school was founded by German-British educator Kurt Hahn[1] on 13 October 1963 with funding received from the USAID, Ford Foundation and donation of landspace by the then Nigerian Western Regional government.[2] Most of the pioneer teaching staff were British expatriate educators from Gordonstoun in Scotland. The school is a co-educational Boarding and Day School admitting pupils aged 10 to 16. It was primarily established to meet the need of finding a school with a world class standard[3] comparable to schools in Europe and Northern America for children of expatriates, living and working in Nigeria. It opened its doors to pupils of both expatriates of diverse nationalities and highly placed Nigerians. The social setting that ISI provided attracted more patronage from people of all races.

No sir. The International School, UI wasnt built with tax payers' money. It was created by the sheer effort and initiative of Mr Curt Hahn, a German. The man was able to get financing from the USAID and the Ford Foundation, and he approached the University of Ibadan to give him land to build the school which he did in 1963. Today, the school is run by the board.

I know this because that's my secondary school. We have a very proud history, and lovely environment in that school, regardless of our different religions. There is no segregation or discrimination amongst the children in the school that I am aware of. This attempt at bringing bitterness, rancour and disruption to such a peaceful school is very unfortunate.

That school is gone as muslims will destroy it.

You can kiss the heritage of the school good bye. This will teach christian proprietors a lesson to reject muslim students from their schools in order to avoid muslim wahala.

It is time for Christian educationists to learn from what is happening to ISI. Keep muslim students away from your schools as they are launch pads for islamic expansion.

I will personally inspect the rules of any school my children will attend to make sure muslims are not allowed there. This is the only reasonable thing christians in Nigeria can do to avoid muslim aggression in our educational system.

In my graduate days, I didn't have many muslims as classmates.

I think the words used by the MURIC in that statement are harsh and threatening...there are better ways to write and drive home the points. If the school does not allow it and you think it's more important than the education being given to your child, then withdraw him or her from that school.

Predominantly muslim population should mean building your own type of schools and impose your laws on the students as HigherEd rightly said with examples stated. Stop harassing government schools in the name of hijab adornment! Those students in government schools put on a particular dress pattern which makes it a uniform for all!

1. Was there a use of hijab when ISI was inaugurated?
2. Is ISI a public school?
3. Is the PTA of ISI responsible for the evolution of laws governing the administration of the school ?
4. Would the introduction of hijab facilitate learning and invention?
5. Would the the use of hijab not encourage social segregration amongst the students?
6. Would the non use of hijab (as rejected by the ISI admin) be instrumental to chaos in real sense?

ISI is a PRIVATE School and NOT being funded with taxpayers money!

Gentleman, there is no place in the constitution of Nigeria that states or enforce Muslim girls to wear hijab it is a thing of choice. Don't come here and say someone wants to corrupt Muslim whatever.

Secondly, there are rules that governs institutions in the land, and once you register as a student you must abide by the regulations. No religious institution have the right to violate that's law. If your people are not happy with these laws, get a private tutor for your girls

Thirdly, there are loads of Islamic schools around that was built for the course of Islam but how many Muslims sincerely do attend ? Your people prefer schools built by Misisonaries , no Christian goes to an Islamic school to twist the regulations so I believe you should respect this as well.

Lastly, so all these religion bigotry or promotion. Ask your yourself, what will wearing hijab contribute to the lifes of the student? As far as I know, in the West and Eastern part of the world students are given opportunities to solve problems and make impact in the society, no one cares whether they wear hijab or carry a bible or wear rosary. You will never see Christian running to Alhikmah grammar school. But you will still find Muslims in St. Micheal secondary school claiming right to wear hijab. They cant mess with Oyedepo Even covenant University you will see Alfa sons n daughters there going to chapel because it's a must if them born them make dem try hijab if they won't terminate their admission

I am really scared for the South West. This was exactly how it started in Maiduguri, before my very eyes it degenerated to what it is today. I have relocated to the West, a place I respect for their high level of religious tolerance, unfortunately they are loosing it by the day. When this will boomerang, even the Muslims will wish they had let the sleeping dogs lie, just as they are wishing in Maiduguri right now cos even the Mosques are not safe anymore. Sue the school or take your Muslim girls to a school where the uniform itself is hijab. Period
