The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Friday, says it has not adopted any candidate for the upcoming 2019 presidential election in the country.

This followed the endorsement of the Presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, Atiku Abubakar, in Enugu during the gathering of Igbo leaders on Wednesday.

The group said it was yet to meet and decide who to support in the forthcoming presidential election.

Ohanaeze, in a statement issued by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Chuks Ibegbu, and forwarded to DAILY POST on Friday, dismissed the report that the gathering of the Igbo leaders in Enugu, and the endorsement of Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, were facilitated by the group.

The apex Igbo body, although admitted that the President General, Chief John Nwodo attended the Enugu meeting, said that was not the position of Ohanaeze.

The statement reads,” Ohanaeze Ndigbo has not yet adopted any Presidential candidate as some media houses recently reported.

“The visit of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar to some Igbo leaders in Enugu was not facilitated by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, though the President General and some chieftains of Ohanaeze Ndigbo were present.

“It was a town hall meeting organised by some friends and associates of Alh. Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, his Vice Presidential candidate and Ohanaeze leadership was invited .

Of course, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is non-partisan but we cannot shirk our responsibility to ensure that the right people are in power for the benefit of Ndigbo and all Nigerians.

“We are elated, however, by the promise of Atiku Abubakar to restructure Nigeria and address the visible marginalisation of Ndigbo
in Nigeria.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo will early in January 2019 organize stakeholders and Imeobi meeting to decided the political trajectory and direction of Ndigbo in 2019”.

They want their own share of the 'Endorsement Money'.

The Entire Ohannnnaazee thing, or what ever they call themselves is just a club where people pay money to get Chieftaincy Titles and where Politicians 'donate' money to get endorsement.

Who do you want to endorse, Buhari ? Or just making this noise so Buhari and Oshomole can bring your share of the loot going on in the Presidency and APC Headquarters.

Igbos endorsing Atiku is not necessarily news, just like fish swimming in water cannot be news..it just natural that they would endorse him going by their profound and unhelpful hatred for the person of Mr President.

What can only be news is Igbos endorsing Buhari.

As if their votes count whether they endorse Atiku or not we don't care. Buhari has proven that Igbos have zero electoral value by winning 2015 election without their votes.

Buhari has opened the eyes of other politician that Igbos are over rated politically.

Just work on the full North, South-West and South-South you're president.

The 16 years of political wilderness the Yoruba went through is not too far gone.

Only this time, Your region will remain there in perpetuity since mainstream politics is not your thing, obviously.

We will be here when buhari will be done with his tenure.

I think Ndigbo will thread with caution this time around. U don't put all eggs in one basket in politics. unfortunately they Learnt the hard way in 2015. the major problem is they take things too personal. just listen to the last wish of the Prof. Atiku might win the SE, but it might not be a landslide as u guys on nairaland think.
