Jackets for N2500? That's like CAD$10. Massive savings for you there.

Makes me wonder where the sellers realize their profit especially after you factor in shipping.

They are not brand new..some times clothes donated to charity abroad end up as "bail" in Naija. Whoever is shipping the "bail" to naija got the clothes almost for free. They'll sell the "bail" with no guarantee of what you get. When I moved back to naija, I had 2 big Ghana must go bags of mostly new clothes go missing between Aberdeen and England (where it was going to be shipped from to Naija).

Yeah,

BTW you guys know winter hasn't officially started right? Technically we are still in fall, winter will start somewhere around December 20th and it will get way colder than it is now in K-W. The really frigid months are January and February and this season I hope it'll be just as severe as the last one smiley

let me add the "not" for you incase you forgot.

The only people with any hope of a mild winter are the Torontonians - and even that is a slim hope. The rest of you guy folks to the north and south of the province should brace for a traditional Canadian winter, i.e. harsh cold and wind. The gods have decided it so prepare and make the most of it. cool

Winter can be a lot of fun if you don't fight it and accept it.

Hello Seniors,
Happy to be an official member of this group.
Please anyone in Gatineau? How easy is it to get accommodation there?
Airbnb and hotel very expensive in that area and we don't want to stay more than 1 week cos of the cost.
Will really appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction.
@40manlappy are you still in Gatineau.

Hello Salford1,

I have my PPR approved and Intend to move next year. Am an Engr and I worked with PHCN for 5 years before moving into the telecoms industry. However, I have been doing more of the telecom infrastructure support work.

From my research here and on some websites, there has been this picture being painted that things may be better for technicians in Canada than the Engrs. Somebody here mentioned there are many technicians, then technologists who are being supervised by the engineer so more technicians and technologists get employed than Engrs. What is your take on this? Can you share a personal experience

salford1:

i had deficiencies of 4 courses, so i was given option to take courses and exams from a list of schools. i was then assigned FE exam.

If you dont have deficiencies, and you have 4 years of work experience...your applications can be approved straight away, then you become an EIT...

if you have at least four years of engineering work experience, including one year of engineering work experience gained in Canada under the supervision of a PEng/PGeo...then you become a PEng/PGeo too.

Unfortunately, i dont know any geo around me. i work in the Electrical Industry (Utility). The two Geo i know. One returned to Nigeria to continue his employment (mobil), and the other moved to materials testing (Soil, concrete, asphalt -Civil), but I have come across profiles of Nigerian P.geologist on LinkedIn. Dont limit your networkimg to Nigerians alone.

1. If you have many years of documented work experience, all you would need to sit for is the law and ethics exam plus one year supervised training.

2. Yes..the 4 years count. But you still need one year Canadian experience without which you wont get the PGeo. This is the stage you need to network massively with people in your field, especially those working for smaller engineering or consulting firms since they have less bureaucracy in their recruitment process.

It’s not even funny in the toronto. Jan/feb this year, temps went as low as -22. I wonder how those up north Canada survive tbh. Maybe Vancouver wouldn’t be as bad.

Please o, do people still have their bath at such low temperatures? Sometime in January, my paddy in Calgary shared a -32 degrees screenshot with me and it literally froze me here in Nigeria.

Some people's teeth clatter vigorously during harmattan of 22 degrees here, how much more these numbers that are fit for building igloos.

I don't know much about the telecoms industry, but I know utility is good especially on the operations and maintenance side of the business. Pursue your PEng first if you have an Engineering degree, that will be your natural path. If you have an Ond/Hnd, or you are thinking of changing career path, then the technician/technologist route is what you should aim for. Some companies not controlled by unions wouldn't also mind filling a technologist position with a candidate having an Engineering degree (added advantage). If you check indeed, such companies would ask for a degree or a diploma in the job posting. (see attached pics below for 2 different postings-elect and civil). Techs and tech positions are often well remunerated too, and it's not uncommon for them to move up to senior leadership.

As per techs having more job job openings, It's the way the industry is structured. It's like a pyramid with the engr at the top, the technologist at the middle and the technicians at the base. The pyramid is narrow at the top and wide at the base. As a result, technicians (tradespeople) would be more in demand.

Goodluck.

Good morning guys...
Please I need your advice, which type of job can a physics graduate do in Canada? Is there any professional course I can do to get a good job? I have 3 years of experience in electrical installation, can that be enough for me to get a job in Canada plus my degree in physics?
Thanks in advance for your reply

I just went to the nearest Pharmacy and asked for it, all I needed was my health card (insurance) and it was free. I live in Alberta though, I am not sure if the process is similar in other provinces.

Lol of course you can have your bath. It’ll be warm indoors with functioning heaters plus you can always turn your shower to hot and enjoy a warm bath.

Yes, they have for kids. I didn't get the shoes sellers number, but if u call Amarachi Winter (I shared his contact earlier) he can take you to the shoe sellers. One of them is 2 shops away from Amarachi and the other is not too far from him either. They're all in a block of shops parallel to the railway tracks but upstairs.

Landed seniors, some help needed. I asked for a car insurance quote and 1 company gave me a quote of $8,000 pa which is just pure madness. How does one go about getting a smaller quote for new immigrants.

8000 ? That is way too much unless your car is a rolls royce wink
Where are you located? Insurance pricing also depends on the location.
