I was taken aback when APC BMC start shouting Atiku lie when he says he sell wood as orphan.

I will base my fact check on

1. UNICEF definition of orphan

UNICEF and global partners define an orphan as a child under 18 years of age who has lost one or both parents to any cause of death. By this definition, there were nearly 140 million orphans globally in 2015, including 61 million in Asia, 52 million in Africa, 10 million in Latin America and the Caribbean, and 7.3 million in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. This large figure represents not only children who have lost both parents, but also those who have lost a father but have a surviving mother or have lost their mother but have a surviving father.

2. Muslim definition of orphan

The Orphan in Islamic Law

The Orphan in Islamic Law

The Arabic word for orphan is yatîm. Its linguistic meaning is simply "something that is singular and alone." When the word is used in the context of a human being, it means "a minor who has lost his or her father."

Generally, an orphaned child is confronted by poverty and has a weak position in society. A minor child in such a compromised set of circumstances possesses nothing, not even the knowledge of how to cope. A child does not have the experience and life skills to make it on his or her own.

When such a child reaches the age of majority – and we can define that as the time when the person acquires the ability to manage properly whatever money he or she might possess or come into possession of – then the person ceases to be an orphan as defined by Islamic Law.

3. In biblical Perspective.

God Says "I will be Father to the Fatherless"

James 1:27, “Pure and undefiled religion is this: to minister to widows and orphans in their distress and keep oneself unstained by the world"

4. Martial Webster dictionary definition of an orphan

[quote] orphan noun
or·phan | \ˈȯr-fən \
Definition of orphan (Entry 1 of 2)
1 : a child deprived by death of one or usually both parents
He became an orphan when his parents died in a car accident.[quote]

From the above therefore, it is safe to say that from Atiku statement He Was completely right to have said that.

Thank You.

No amount of whitewashing would change the truth about the brazenly corrupt Atiku whose sole destiny is to loot and destroy Nigeria.

Atiku is a petty liar cum thief. He sold national assets to himself at give away prices and also turned the largest port in Nigeria to his private use for smuggling ( ask Nuhu Ribadu), thus , depriving Nigeria revenue.

Atiku, a corrupt retired customs officer who became the subject of an academic research on International corruption by an ivy league school in the US.

Atiku is only being supported by enemies of Nigeria who have vowed to wreck the ship of our country.

Sane and patriotic Nigerians are duty and honour bound to defend our Nation and her commonwealth from criminals like Atiku at all cost.
God bless Nigeria..

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), and other groups label any child that has lost one parent as an orphan. In this approach, a maternal orphan is a child whose mother has died, a paternal orphan is a child whose father has died, and a double orphan is a child who has lost both parents.[6] This contrasts with the older use of half-orphan to describe children that had lost only one parent.[7]

God bless you, heaven knows I don't even have strength to start explaining this way to the ignorant.

youths in Nigeria are the real problems of this country. we shouldn't even be talking about these two Buhari and Atiku, imagine this one talking about UNICEF definition of orphan cos he has been sorted. we are all in trouble as long as we are in this country. we need political consciousness.

Whether Atiku is an orphan or not it is irrelevant. Is he contesting for the first time?

Fact checked: Atiku lied about growing up as an orphan

Last Sunday the independent national electoral commission, INEC declared campaign open for candidates contesting in 2019 general election; as politicians device means of convincing electorates for votes, sometimes lies are been told which in turn generate a lot of false reports. The fact check team at Nigeriadefender.com will be monitoring the words of politicians to separate truth from lies.

Nigeria Defender recently spotted a false claim by the candidate of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar when he allegedly said he grew up as an orphan in a bid to relate well with the poor masses.

Did Atiku actually say he grew up as orphan?

Various sources reported that the former vice president said he grew up as an orphan selling firewood, according to Pulse.ng, Presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, highlighted his rags-to-riches story as he unveiled his plan to fix Nigeria if elected.

“I started out as an orphan selling firewood on the streets of Jada in Adamawa, but God, through the Nigerian state, invested in me and here I am today”, Atiku said in a 9-minute broadcast that was streamed live on Facebook.

“If Nigeria worked for me, I owe it as my duty to make sure that Nigeria also works for you,” he said.
The report was also published by thecable.ng as well as other top media houses.

Did Atiku really grow up as orphan?

According to Wikipedia, “Atiku Abubakar was born on November 25, 1946 to a Fulani trader and farmer Garba Abubakar, and his second wife, Aisha Kande, in Jada village of Adamawa State. Atiku Abubakar became the only child of his parents when his only sister died at infancy. Atiku’s father and mother divorced before his father died in 1957 and his mother remarried. Eventually, his mother died in 1984 of heart attack”.

This was also mentioned in his 2013 book titled “MY LIFE”, page 30 of the book confirmed his mother died in 1984. Atiku is about 72yrs now, this means that he was already 38yrs old when his mother passed away.

Why does it matter?

Does it really matter if Atiku grew up as orphan? Ordinarily it doesn’t matter, but it matters now because he falsely claimed it to be so. Fake news begins with a single lie and if not nipped in the bud it metamorphoses into widespread misinformation.

You must think we're fools here.

In Nigeria, everyone knows what the word "orphan" stand for. it's mostly a word used for children without PARENTS!

That's why we mostly have what we call "orphanage homes" for children without parents.

Let's stop being silly in this country!
