Stop being ignorant. Many diseases can present the same way and only a qualified personnel can diagnose and differentiate. Don't propagate stupidity coz alot of ppl will just die by self medication

They're leaving because they're so bad that everybody googles their ailment.

(Last time one of them here on nairaland told us to Google our ailments. Or was that a nurse with a stethoscope?)

Modified: Don't preach to me Nigerian doctors. Ask their patients. Then take the average of votes for and against them.
do you know that they pass many exams assessing their clinical acumen before they are allowed to practise abroad..
in summary, people in developed countries find those doctors you think are bad good enough

They may pass their tests, but with the crude behaviours they exhibit they may as well not have.

Let's not talk about the negligence, etc.

I remember how this doctors were villifying jonathan with NMA supporting booharii in 2015.
Let them go abeg, nigeria has too many doctors already, if you call for an interview for doctors even if you need just 3 doctors, 200 will show up at our government hospitals. So what happens to the rest?

There are too many of them, competition is stiff, that's why they bully other professionals, and that's why the Minister of health have told them to go into farming like other graduates.
Why should a doctor leave the patient and want to head engineering department and cleaning department in the hospital if not for so much time on their hands and joblessness.

I'm not moved by their propaganda, NMA simply 'sai buharied' their way into the present situation.

MediahelmNGR:
The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has attributed poor remuneration and inadequate health facilities as some of the major reasons for mass exodus of medical doctors from the country.

Dr Ekpe Phillips, the FCT Chapter NMA Chairman, said this at the opening of the Annual Health Week of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in Abuja where described the pay package of doctors in Nigeria as poor, stressing the need for government to increase the remuneration of doctors to address the challenge.

He noted that many doctors who left the country to take up foreign appointment did so due to inadequate facilities among other factors. He listed mass unemployment, lack of placement for residency faced by a high proportion of medical professionals in Nigeria as other factors.

Phillips said Nigeria is losing doctors to foreign countries, adding that Nigerian doctors are leaving the country for greener pastures and the workload is becoming too much on the doctors that stay.

Dr Michael Olarewaju, the President of Association of Residents Doctors, FCT chapter, said that brain drain was a massive problem to Nigeria’s health system. He said that if the problem was not properly tackled in the next two to three years there would not be enough doctors to treat patients in the country. He observed that initially the problem in the sector was strike by health workers “but now they are not going on strike but are exiting the country’’.

Re: Nigeria Medical Association Explains Why Doctors Are Leaving The Country by DeRay98(m): 1:14pm On Nov 29, 2018
The problem of Nigerian health care system is incompetent Medical doctors running our system.
When Akunyili a pharmacyst was appointed as DG of NAFDAC, NAFDAC attained global recognition for its fight against fake drugs in Nigeria. When she left NMA fought and push Medical Doctor there Dr Orhii, a Vet doctor. In less than 5yrs before he left, NAFDAC staff had gone on strike up to 3 times, the agency had become a shadow of its self.
Every Minister of Health and DG in the ministry of health must be a medical doctor, every state health commissioner must be and is a medical doctor. Every health advisory committee in any state, NASS, Senate must be and is a medical doctor. Why is the system not working?
When Mrs Buhari exposed the state of the Aso Rock hospital without Panadol inspite of the Billions budgeted for it, did we hear the Health minister say a word?
Junior medical doctors are been lied to by their seniors in public health care administration but the juniors have no idea that their Ogas in the profession are the enemies of the society, that they are unquestionable and answerable to no one.
They have no idea or are ignorant of the schemes they Professors in admin use to divert public funds int their own private use or hospital?
look out our govt hospitals, you should ask if they have directors administering those institutions and who they are.
They keep telling everybody that govt is not funding the system enough, what do they do with the little funds they get? Who advice govt on funding health care, who approves health care budgets in NASS and Senate? With those committee headed by medical doctors, why are they not able to mobilize these legislative house to force the executive or they increase the health care budget?
Are we not aware that Senate is headed by a medical doctor (Dr Saraki), are we not aware of how they pad budget for their so-called constituency projects or arm-twist the executive to increase their budget or no approval of budget?

You don't compare a teacher to a doctor. You don't. There's no where in the world that a teacher is on the same level as a doctor. And as for missionary doctors, they know what they signed so they're fine with it. A regular doctor is in it for the service and for money. And no, I'm not a doctor.

Every once in a while, this topic comes up about how doctors are poorly paid compared to ABROAD. Does that include Russia, Cuba or Sweden?

Why can't you make something out of your Country and life instead of money money money money. When you make the money, where do you spend it, on what goods and services?

Foreign airlines, exotic food, imported goods and services.

Doctors are leaving for the countries you train them for. Before they leave, ask them all how many foriegn exams they took.

How many of them or schools learn about local diseases? Ebola came, they were on strike. How did Nigeria survived Ebola?

Until you change the curriculum to focus on local diseases that will make them useless for ABROAD diseases, you will continue to lose them.

Invest medical training on Community Health Officers ie physician assistants and nurse practitioners, even used in the most developed countries they run to: USA and Britain.

So, those that never got heavily subsidized medical training, zero loans, which foreign graduates must pay are the ones for comparison?

Yet, foreign medical graduates, highly trained drop everything and come home while ingrates worse than looters check out: ABROAD ABROAD ABROAD.

Even cartpushers have a better reason to check out.

Yeah! What is this one saying?

Wait, let me do the maths!

Modify: that is around #130,000 per month.
It now depends on how much Nigerian Doctors earn per month!
But, I think you are right.
That's a shame!

RE: MODIFY!
Ur calculation is wrong, if someone earn 12dollar per hour, assuming the person works 12 hours a day, that's
144 dollars and that person works 26days a month that's 3744dollars in a month, now convert that to naira.

Thank you, I was calculating 12 dollars a day instead of 12 dollars an hour... Thanks man!!
Let me modify!

I can see u are bias in ur judgement due to ur selfish reasons. The way u talk.if u are in power u see doctors as god and see teachers as nothing. B4 u became a doctor who tot u. Doctors do not come frm heaven nah. We know hardworking doctors dat save lives and dos many lazy ones. So want doctors to be d highest earner despite those many incompitent dat have killed their patience abi.

Not just NURSES.
A HOSPITAL CLEANER in the US earns at least 12USD per hour, making him richer than a Senior Nigerian Medical Doctor.
The only CHALLENGE ABROAD is ACCOMMODATION, that’s why people get their spouses working.
People even divorce their husbands and wives for being too lazy to work because there are JOBS.
PARENTS ask their adult children to leave homes when they contribute nothing to home servicing.

Go and learn economics.

Don't just convert dollar to naira and conclude they earn higher.

If only you had responded like this instead of resorting to insults in the first place, you may have gotten an explanation. Or if you had read, before concluding it was my own ideology.

It is the ideology of doctors here on nairaland. Perhaps you're not aware of a thread in which a doctor (or nurse with a stethoscope) told people to use Google rather than going to see her. Take time to read and comprehend before jumping to insult. Otherwise you come off as idiotic and ignorant, which you are in this situation.
