See, it's only of some section of the youths that have been a bit political that wants to defend the rougues in power that will say, "will the government provide everything?". The five basic necessities the government should provide are as follows: A small but safe house. Food. Water and electricity. Basic clothes. Free healthcare. They're not limited to these five. After which the citizens are to provide and respect as well as tick off the other sections of the Social Contract available to them. Now with the aforementioned, does anyone here on NL want to tell me that these 5 things are too much to get as a citizen of a country as Nigeria? See, a lot of us have our parents and associates in government and the fear that once they leave government they won't get to see any cuts again makes them support blindly - their atrocities. In a sane setting, the government would have equipped the Universities with funds for research up to innovation level that can bring about alternate sources of energies that also the neighbouring community would enjoy. The University of Lagos alone should be able to provide electricity for the whole of Akoka/Yaba using alternate sources of energy. The government has failed us. Also, Google to check and know the amount of tapped/untapped natural/mineral resources Nigeria has, boy, you'll be dazed. I can tell you that, the endowment funds available to Stanford University in US is enough to fund all Universities in Nigeria including Private Universities, why wouldn't they thrive? I feel sorry for Nigerians and students also the kids that are just coming up. Do we even see hope? |

I won't blame anybody shouting Fashola or minister of darkness because most people here do not verify news before concluding. The news is inaccurate .... The reason for the shortage in power supply is because the VC refused to increase the hostel fee which the hostel provost proposed. The Hostel provost feels the only way to punish the students and get at the VC is to cut power supply. There is 24 hours electricity in other places within the school premises except the student hostels.
