As much as a man must have self-respect, yes, the wooing must be the done by the man - even if the woman initiates it or gives the green light (as people say). To answer your question directly.

Despite all the talk about man and woman being equal. Yes, that's true. But we're different and each has their roles. Not just biologically different in a few places, but psychologically, culturally and socially as well.

"He that findeth a wife..."

Not "she that findeth a husband..."

It's the man that finds, seeks, woos etc (whichever choice of words).

The man takes the lead...

A perfect union is one in which the man focusses on loving and nurturing the woman (again, taking the lead), and the woman being submissive (looking up to the man to take the lead).

Besides from the husband/wife and Christ/the church analogy above, was it the church that wooed Christ or vice versa? Remember, Christ is the husband and the church is the wife.
