Well ur topic says 'cars' and not 'sedans'. Anyway there's no need for v8 engines on sedans except for performance cars and full size luxury cars. Even some of the new generation full size luxury sedans like Lexus LS have ditched the v8 for turbo charged v6.

The C400, C450, GLE400, GLE450, C43 Amg and GLE 43 Amg are all turbocharged V6.
NB: the above mentioned vehicles are not just the merc models with such naming system, the E, GLS, GLC, SLC and co are all part of the family

Yes they're not really common cos large luxury sedans are not common as are used by a few
Which makes the V8 uncommon in sedans.
Except for the performance based sedans that are on our roads, most motorists prefer cars with small engines that equate to less headache and also they don't need all that power.
But they do exist and are quite plenty

I gave that benz size because of the popular ones on the road, I am talking about popular vehicles not interested in all the vehicle classes as you can see I didn't mention the American cars.

now to your second statement I have not said the VR38DETT is the best engine in the world but it has a better rep and has won many awards compared to your V12 fitted in AMG. I don't have strength of comparing any benz engine to the VR when we talk of V12 engines we mention ferrari, lamborghini, Porsche, Ford GT fitted engines, engines that are in the 3.0secs and below.

The E55 AMG was faster than the E60 M5, I believe. E63 was slower, though. The E55 had more torque than the E63 but less hp, making the E55 a launch god. Had like 600 ft-lbs of torque or something ridiculous. Supercharger power.
