Hello everyone just got back from the states These people are not smiling at all I wonder what is happening even JFK that used to be a breeze has changed . Got in through JFK we were directed to the self profiling machine some of their officers were on ground to do the separation i.e those of us who had rice and beans passport ( kids with dual citizenship). We were asked to stay on a particular queue come and see people Naija, cocoyi chinko etc. see drilling people were taken away for 2ndry inspection we spent over 1hr on that particular queue and we were not allowed to join another queue about 2 other flights came in after us and the same separation was done. When it got to our turn the man was tired and was getting ready to change shift. We handed over our passports With a frown on his face he removed the children's American passports and asked who is this we pointed at the half asleep child asked to see the second one we pointed he asked why they had a passport different from us the parents as if he doesn't know. We told him they were born in the US he nodded and asked if we had a return ticket we gave him and he glanced through it. He asked how much we had when we told him , for the first time he smiled stamped all our passports. We ran collected our luggages and out into the freezing cold in New York. God must surely deliver us from bad governance and heal our land so that this mass exodus can stop. See young, smart promising Nigerian youths on the streets of America doing menial jobs to keep body and soul together once again this early Momo I pray that God will heal our land and return our lost glory

Amen oooo!

I'm in Boston too.. leaving next week.

Birth certificate and SS should have been done at the hospital. Normally ready for collection at Boston City hall in 2weeks from date of application. SSN is sent out by mail within 3weeks.

For the US passport, you can apply once you get your consent form and birth certificate. Consent form is form DS-3053 printable from the US passport website. Hubby would take the unsigned form to the US embassy for notarization(make sure he fills your name as it is on your passport). He can book appointment on US embassy Nigeria website..you can Google 'notarization US embassy Nigeria'

He will need to send you the original copy to apply for US passport. DHL takes about 4days to arrive in Boston. My hubby paid 23k to send. You can book appointment to apply at Boston passport agency if your ticket date is within 2weeks or you need a visa within 4wks. Just tell them you fall in that category, they don't need to know about voa. Make sure you go with copy of your ticket. Check US passport website for detailed list of documents.

My LO's passport was ready in 2days.

As for medical bills..just prepare yourself. Boston is not cheap but if you look at the bill and it doesn't look right, don't be afraid to ask billing for review.

All the best!

Thank you so very much! smiley

@baeboss

At what point do you pay for voa? Is it immediately after you apply or once you get the letter from them? Also, how long does it take for them to send the letter? Do I have to wait for it before I can travel with LO?

Thanks

Any Nigerian-Australians, Nigerian-Germans, or Nigerian-Canadians, etc, considering doing this? That is, giving birth in the U.S? It's something I'm thinking about doing in the future (tho I'm single) in order for my future kids to have dual citizenship, albeit the healthcare here is better. Just wondering if other Nigerians who are already citizens of the above countries (or others) have ever thought about it or done it. undecided

Yes ooo! Naija-Brit right here!

I know the question was not directed to me but I have some answers. You can pay for the VOA after you get the approval letter but you must have LO passport when paying .
It takes 2 business days to get the approval letter in your mail. Ensure you send all documents in pdf or jpf format , not as Google drive documents .
You can't travel without the approval letter. You have to print it out and go with it for check in.

Thanks so much for having mercy on me smiley wink You've been a big help.

I was initially going to add birth certificate but since no one mentioned it here or on their website, decided to leave it out until requested.

Would send it now.

Thanks

I applied without a birth certificate. It is actually not a requirement for VOA but you can send it if it makes you comfortable.
