Atiku made the best choice since he knew that the yourubas and edos were already in the bag for buhari. The average yoruba man is not trustworthy and atiku would have shot himself in the foot if he believed that having a yoruba vp would be equivalent to getting a bloc yoruba vote. If he had chosen a yoruba or edo vp, the igbos would automatically route for buhari so as to get a shot at the presidency. To avoid that he chose an igbo vp to secure their vote while hoping that obasanjo would use his political clout to get yoruba vote for him. He needs to work harder in the north thats where his advantage would come from.

Nigerian politics especially the two big political parties put ZONING into consideration when dishing out position so it would be an anomaly for the south south to produce national chairman and vice president on that strength south east and south west were the only alternatives
