I just check on Kijiji and see 3 bedroom apartment in Moncton for 770/ month. And if you have roommates you may end up paying around $260.
The cost of leaving is lower in New Brunswick.
You will do fine with a wage of $12.

New Brunswick is the only Canadian officially bilingual province. It is the land of The Acadians who are the descendants of French colonists.
They speak the standard North American English but no one understands their French.
I always prefer dealing with them in English.

By the way some of them never spoke English given they are Arcadians. And if you meet this type you are basically screwed given that you will have a hard time understanding their French and you can't shift the conversation to English

Fort McMurray is a city of about 80,000 people. It’s basically an oil city with lots of money going around. True to the fact that they do a lot of drugs here, it’s only a matter of choice for you to decide if you will join them or not. I landed in Fort McMurray from Nigeria some few years back and I can boldly tell you I never regretted it. Though it’s a work town with little side attractions, but you can be sure of making good money and can afford to take your family for nice vacations within and outside Canada if you want. Even a Janitor will make at least $50k minimal. I first worked as security when I landed and was going home with $4k in a month after tax which is on a 7 days on 7 days off basis. My intention was to get a white collar job sitting in front of a computer but as God will have it I now work as an heavy equipment operator which is sweet, you just don’t want to imagine what an HEO takes home bi-weekly. I lost all I ever had including my certificates and travel doc in 2016 wild fire(the beast) except for the cloths I put on for work and my car that fateful day. The most painful part was that then I was renting and as a Nigerian didn’t see getting a property insurance as something important. I would have been at least $100k richer if I have had that $25 monthly insurance for my property. My dear a lot have really gone by but thank God in less than a year after I lost everything, I bought my own house to the glory of God. When you come here there are lots of opportunities you just have to be flexible and discover what works in the city you live in. God will help you.

I was initially headed to Ontario but since my IT plans are scheduled to go live later and I wouldnt be contesting for an IT job till later in the year I reasoned the major reason for going to Ontario would have been ease of getting IT job.
By the time am ready for IT jobs I can always apply from Calgary to Ontario, but I am hoping I can get a decent offer for software developer in Alberta tho.

Lastly, I have a friend who is in Calgary and ready to accomodate me for sometime and help with integrating.

From what I have read tho, GTA is like Lagos and am an Ibadan/Abuja kind of person If I can get a decent job in Alberta, I prefer the quiet Alberta life.
I am hoping I can get a wife in Alberta too, I heard the hustle is too agresive in GTA for their ladies to have time for settling down

GTA still remains a choice destination for IT and finance... I have a friend in Toronto and he's doing fine.. In addition, you enjoy a fairly good weather..

True Sask offered both. However, let us look at it from a different angle. Canada is not much of a big country (not talking landmass). There few major or minor cities so that makes career mobility difficult. This reason makes it tough for some people to find jobs in their profession outside the Toronto area especially those in some highly specialized finance profession. No matter how we spin it, there jobs just don't exist outside the Toronto CBD. If it does exist, it would be maybe just one or two openings in a year compared to the daily openings they would have access to in Toronto. Let's cut them some slack.

This might be related or unrelated, depending on how one looks at it. With regards to your comment about exploring and seeking out opportunities across the country, I think that is an excellent suggestion.
Some of us are lucky to find ourselves in professions that would still have vacancies or openings even in remote locations, so mobility becomes a non issue, and unlike most major cities in the world where employers would often pay extra or top-up for living and working in a big city, Canadian employers would often pay you more to move from a big city to a small city. It's not uncommon to see people earning up to $10 more on top their hourly wage just by moving from Calgary when they take up a job to some smaller cities or town in Alberta.

I used to work in banking operations and have made quite a profile in that area but I really am looking to move away from that career. I work as a software tester currently but I am training to become a full fledged software/web developer.

I will be landing Calgary early 2019 but my training might take a further 6 months for me to be comfortable in the software/web development domain.
How would you advise I roll ? Currently I am planning to land in Calgary, get any job and continue my training (its online) then manage the job till say sept 2019 when I would have had enough software development project on my profile to start looking for a software developer job.

Sometimes it feels like my plan is not well taught out, can you advise me ?

I have a Bsc and Msc Elect Eng but I am not willing to practice Engineering , I really enjoy coding.

Got it. Having someone in Calgary to help with your landing is totally understandable. From there you can position yourself to take opportunities as they present themselves.

I am one of those people who are biased in citing Ontario as the place to be when it comes to IT. True, Toronto is a heck of a busy place to live in with the fast pace of life like one would find in any commercial hub anywhere these days. Thing is, it is very competitive in terms of IT jobs and this is unmatched by few places in the country except, say, Montreal.

Another place in the province that is growing as an IT hub is the Kitchener-Waterloo region. It doesn't have as many opportunities as Toronto but it is steadily growing its clout. The plus side is that it is still offers a calmer pace of life unlike Toronto. [s]Also with all the schools in the region babes full ground[/s]

I myself do not care much for big cities and their bustle, I generally stay away from Toronto ...except on the weekends when it is time for owambe For me living in the K-W region is like the best of both worlds, enjoy a calm city life and when it's time to switch it up the 6ix is just an hour away.

Hello bro, sometimes we might begin to look beyond our passion depending on the circumstances we find ourselves. I know that IT field is also very profitable if you can get into a very good organization or get a job with the government.
There are other short courses or programs you can do, that will impact positively in your career. In my city,engineering is hot cake but you know the reason you don’t want to continue in that field which I respect.

Depends on where you go in Alberta. A house sold for 400k in Medicine Hat can cost you 650 to 700k in Calgary. Even within Calgary, a house sold for 450k in the Mcknight area can cost you 850k in the Aspen area.
