at MMM. Brother..., security is a good survival job for older people, anyone in school or an immigrant taking conversion exams (regulated professions) while still trying to earn money on the side to pay bills or secure POF for emergency use only.. It is usually stress free too. The only issue is fighting sleep around 4am on overnight shift. That is the hour your body tries to shut down. Some might be lucky to get OT hours like the OP. Some might even be luckier to get jobs in oil field or mine sites where wages could be over $25/hr with fly-in/fly-out or bus-in/bus-out. All you require is the security license for the province plus a St. John Ambulance 1st Aid certificate.

However, while you are at it, do not forget to keep your eyes on the goal i.e to ultimately get back into your career.

If I blaze the trial to take step in 2019 and we move after my PhD, what degree will I have to go for in Canada to be relevant?
What's the possibility of landing an Academic position?
Is their conversion program for Food Scientists to Dietitian in Canada, if yes, what's the program duration?
My brother, if you could leave a #400k monthly job in Naija to put life in right track and start as a Security in Canada (I am aware there is dignity of labour), then why should I stay glued to just #130k per month job in Naija even when my wife couldn't get a job here despite her Masters.

Instead of paying a landlord $1,300 a month, you can buy your own house and start building equity. So basically you are paying yourself $1,300 a month.
Secondly and don't take this the wrong way but why are you paying for a new car? $500 every month for 8 years is a lot of money and I think you are better off driving a clean used car than paying for a new car. I drive a 2007 Hyundai which serves me well but I own my own house (mortgage). I honestly don't see the essence of a new car as it loses value immediately you drive it out of the lot

First of all, thanks for the kind words. Now, i have a family member who studied in Nigeria, came out with a 2:1 in Biochemistry, went to the UK for a masters degree, was one of the best and moved straight to Canada after that in 2014. she had to start as a ware house worker, which she did for one year, then also moved to health care assistant, which she did for about 3 years. While doing this she started a nursing degree and is almost through with it. In between the warehouse jobs and the health care assistant jobs, she was able to save $75000. And guess what she also became a citizen within that time. She is actually the one that motivated me to save. So your background does not matter. Try and apply for a job in your area immediately you land, but if you cant get in your area start in any area while you are taking a course in your area. It can be another bachelor's or even a diploma it doesn't really matter.Jobs with a biochemistry background may not be easy of the bat, but it is not impossible. If you have the ability to do you Phd in Canada, that would be nice if not, when you are done with your Phd you can move over and take another Phd in Canada, that is also good. But, i will be honest, even if you have a Phd from Nigeria your chances of teaching in a university or college immediately you land is very slim.

Thanks Sevule. Your points are truly on point, but i have other intentions for my Savings. My goal is actually to become self employed within the next 3 years.
On your first point, buying a house is really cool, but right now my stability is not really guaranteed about which province i would want to settle in. I am very intelligent person, and i have lots of ideas that i could develop to become really rich, no kidding. But the issue i have is no seed capital. I want to get myself out of the situation where i have to always save in order to implement an idea. I want to be thinking about what to invest in instead of thinking of how to acquire capital to invest. I have realized there is so much peace of mind if you know you have some money in your account for eventualities and such. My intention for saving is to get ahead and not to always be trying to catch up.
On your second point, You are completely right. I made a mistake buying the car in the first place, because i really did not understand the terms. But then, because of the situation i found myself with the car, i immediately resolved that i must earn in such a way that my car is not more than 10% of my pay every month. That was my second motivation to work as hard as i do. Having a 2017 car also made it possible to not think about mechanic issues and my car has warranty and all that. By the time i have able to meet my savings Target, my balance on the car will be about 16k. At that time i will decide if i wanna pay it off or may just continue the monthly payment. So all i am concerned about is just working hard.

1. Become a Canadian citizen
2. Have $120,000 in my account
3. Have this car or another nice one in my garage.
4. Complete my masters degree.
Simple and short.
