Hi everyone, I just joined the Benz family, I wish I could read all submissions on this thread but it's too much.

It's my second car, I previously owned the Golf 4 for 6 years, still have it though...

What do I need to know about the Benz, maintenance and making the best of it. I don't want my ignorance to mess this car up.

2005 Benz C230 Kompressor.

stay away from flood.the intake manifold of the supercharger(kompressor) is very close to the ground,so any attempt to drive in flood will suck up water immediately and hydrolock the engine.
Never run till fuel finishes,else you might be bleeped
Always put coolant in the radiator and never water and please,watch the temperature guage from time to time so as to ensure this car never overheats cos if it does,you just gotta buy a new engine.
Always service with mobil1 and star oil for mercedes benz for transmission.

All these don't do this, don't do that is scary tbh.. ..i dey do as I like with my Golf 4, fit drive enter flood anyhow, fit use water as coolant. I'll have to be more reasonable now

The C180 as per the picture displayed here is the W202 series while the other is the W203. Both cars are Ok if under normal circumstances. As for W203, are you sure it's C200 and not C230? Mercedes doesn't like abuse unlike some Japanese. If I'm to pick, except I am very sure of the mechanical and electrical condition of the W203, i will go for the C230 but if not, I wouldn't want to gamble but will just go ahead with the C180 and have rest of mind.

From pictures you posted I don't see any of the cars to be toks. Provide more pictures if you can.
Never make the mistake of taking a mechanic for inspection before u buy a car.
Nigeria Mechanics will always want you to buy a seriously Abused car cos they will always want you to be coming to fix one thing or the other...that is how they make their daily bread.
You won't even know when the mechanic and the seller will strike a deal, he will tell you all is well with the car.

If you like shine ya eyes from morning til night, if you are unwilling to spend at the very least between 5 to 10% of the value of the car you intend to procure on a PPI done by an unbiased chap - you will keep posting error codes and issues and cc'ing the Mechos here for online diagnosis

I believe since I can conveniently pay that much in the first place, I can also set aside 200k from that assumed 4m. I don't know how a car's engine works, and I don't intend to learn now. So, I rather outsource that part. However, you're a lot more knowledgeable on car issues than I am and can afford not to spend up to that amount or nothing at all.

Not really, that's pretty standard PPI cost in the US.
