isale_gan2, that was an impressive attempt at paying homage to the well-deserving departed icon of fuji music. Kudos and more power to your elbow.

Thanks. I love the guy. Great musical legend, and he's one of our very own!

Actually, I had posted 2 sets of lyrics, but spambot banned me, and I just realized now that the 2nd one did not post. I think you'll like it.

I will re-post shortly.

OMG! I was listening to Fantasia Fuji (my favorite of Alhaji Agba's) and I was saying to a friend that the next time he visits the UK, I'll find him, I wanted to thank him for the message in part 2 of 'Fantasia Fuji' where he sang abouth 'death'. Very ironic, hmn,  may his soul rest in peace. As well as I love his songs, I really liked him as a person, he had always inspired me through his career. I have listened to the following albums (find any one of them to buy, great songs):
Do you by any chance remember which of his albums contains the song about "iku" and his mother and father's passing?  I want to do the lyrics but only have a short clip of 3mins of that song.  Thanks.  It goes something like:

Inna lillahi wa inna ilahi rajiun

Iku ti o wole tomi lo koko pa mother mi
Iku to ri'pe wo lo pa baba mi

In "Fantasia Fuji" (side 2). He dedicated the entire side 2 of that record for that song, "iku";  the record's MY favourite. He sang about 'death' in most of his records,  listen to the tribute he made for Alhaja Amudat Adunni Zubair, on 'side B' of "Questionaire"; tribute to Alhaja Simbiat Abiola in "Dimensional Fuji"; and many more. I found these two very emotional, even though I'd no idea who some of those late people were. I actually fancy listening to the side 2 of his records specifically to listen to praises of his sponsors, he was brilliant!

I totally missed that my question was already answered in the first post of yours I quoted.  I feel dunce-like.  I just overlooked it cos I had only looked at the list of albums and not read the full intro in your post.  Thanks for humouring me.  embarassed

I've had some trouble posting another transcription I did because spambot keeps banning me.  But I'll post it in bits.

Also, do you have any suggestion on where to get his albums?  I don't have all the ones I want, and am restless waiting for the people back home to mail it to me in the US.  Not many selections on Amazon.com.  Actually, last time I checked, it was less than half a dozen.

@ Isale gan2

Better wait, Naija is where they can get his records for you,  send someone to Lati Alagbada Records, or Ogo Oluwa Kiitan Records along Agege Motor Rd, near Shogunle (am sure the head office's still there); you'll definitely get most of his oldies there. A mini classic records market used to be at Oshodi Isale, but they were moved (don't know where),  I could have guaranteed you'll get any records from them.

Barrister’s remains buried in Lagos
Nigerian Tribune
Written by Shola Adekola
Friday, 31 December 2010

THE remains of the Fuji music icon, Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Balogun, popularly known as Barrister, who died in London two weeks ago, at the age of 62 years, was committed to mother earth at about 10.00 p.m on Thursday.

He was buried in the living room of his Isolo, Lagos home.

Among those who witnessed the burial were Alhaji Kollington Ayinla; Chief Ebenezer Obey; King Wasiu Ayinde and other top musicians.

His body was flown into the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday.

The late Fuji musician whose corpse supposed to have arrived the country for burial, according to Islamic injunction, could not be flown in until Thursday, as a result of bad weather which had disrupted flights across Europe and America.

By 2.00 p.m on Thursday, the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport had been besieged by his fans, to receive the corpse.

The remains was flown into the country aboard an Air France aircraft, which touched down at the airport around 8.00 p.m.
The corpse was, however, brought out through the cargo side of the airport into a waiting ambulance by 9.00 p.m.

@Amalaaba there's no amount of twist or manipulation u can introduce that'll change d truth that Barry invented fuji music. With due regards sir, your arguments and explanations are simply silly and stinking. Was it not the same "were" u talked about that metamophorsed into "awurebe" of epo-akara, because he was also into "were" before "awurebe". Go and check the root of "dadakuada", "apala" and "sakara" u will find "were". there. I guess u are a K1 fan. Go and hug lion because u can't mislead us, PERIOD and I also REST MY CASE. Shikena.
Thank you, for the analysis above.
There is no controversy about who created Fuji Music, except those mischievous ones who do not want to give credit to who it is due.
Barrister produced his first Fuji album in 1966. Before then, there was no record or album of Fuji Music in Nigeria. He started in 1958 by playing Were music like others but Were was not a professional thing, it was more of a ceremonial islamic music especially during the Ramadan festive period. People like Dauda Epo Akara, Kiollington and much older people also did. But in 1966 Barrister stepped forward, changed the style, tempo and composition of his music and christened it Fuji. He relased his first album in the same year with King Sunny Ade in 1966 under the same label.

I wonder why people say it was Were that became Fuji because Barrister had played Were in the past, but the same people do not say it was Were that became Awurebe because Dauda Epo Akara had played it in the past. If Obey and Sunny had played in the Church as choristers in the past does it mean Gospel /Church music and Juju music are the same? What about other past Were Musicians who later changed to play Apala, Sakara etc?

Barrister had been playing Fuji music before he volunteered to join the army in 1968 and also waxed albums while serving in the army, before retiring in 1976 to face Fuji Music full time. He was the one who invited Kollington to join him play Fuji music, and Kollington relased his first album in the mid 70s(I think 1974 or thereabout).

Wasiu Ayinde(KWAMI1) learnt the art and act of Fuji music under Barrister, and he had to adopt the name Wasiu AYINDE BARRISTER in order to tap into the huge goodwill, followership and love that Barrister enjoyed/enjoys amongst the public. That was from the early 80s to around 1991/92 when he dropped the name 'Barrister' after having managed to find his footing in the Fuji music industry. K1 even sang in one of his early albums in the early 80s that Barrister is the Fuji creator (where he sang, , meta meta l'Ayinde lo do mi, Sikiru Ayinde, Wasiu Ayingde, , Olorun ma pa Ayinde meteta).
KWAM1 later bit the fingers that fed him by trying to usurp the authority and leadership of Barrister, but he was called to order by those who really know his history and that of Fuji music.

There is no controversy about who created Fuji Music.

Barrister during his lifetime always said that Ebenezer Obey is his mentor, boss and adviser, while Sunny Ade is his close senior friend, and he concedes seniority to those two.

To me, Obey and Barrister are the greatest Yoruba musicians of this generation when it comes to composition, originality, wisdom and knowledge. I have been saying this since the 80s. I am a Christian, but one thing that makes me love his talent and creativity more is the ability and ease with which he uses Arabic/Quaranic words to sing beautyfully in his songs.

Barrister's artistic composition and poetic delivery of songs with beats, rhytms and traditional dance steps to match is unrivalled. Listen to albums like Oke Agba, Ise Loogun Ise, Family Planning, Okiki, Destiny, Love, Fuji Vibration, Barry@40, Fuji Garbage, Extravagnza, Fuji Dimension, Fanatasia and you would see a rich repertoire of originality and creativity!

RIP Alhaji Agba.

Condolences - its a reminder though that no matter who one is on this earth, that there is an end to things - “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”:- Heb 9:27, for anyone not find in CHRIST JESUS The Lord. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” - Acts 4:12
