I have some questions concerning the Eckankar religion. I will like to practice but will appreciate a little clarification before I dive into it at all.

Is this a good place to ask my question as I have seen that this thread is occupied by Eckist.

ECKANKAR is more than a religion. It is a way of life.

Today, religion is myopically perceived to be that dogmatic relationship between someone or a group of people here on earth, and an unseen mighty force somewhere up in the sky. But ECKANKAR presents a better understanding of life, religion and God.

Whenever you’re in doubt about any action, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? You can also ask, What would love do now?

1. The HU. I understand it is the original name of God. Chanting it is like singing a love song to God. When I searched the whole website, all I saw was the singing or chanting of HU, is that all you do? Is this not a form of meditation?

2. Whats your stand on the following matters:

The HU is the fundamental and basic Spiritual Exercise in ECKANKAR.it is the starting point but it is not all we do.
There are more than a thousand different spiritual exercises in ECKANKAR. Every week a new one is put up in the website www.eckankar.org under the spiritual exercise for the week.

The spiritual exercises are not meditative prayers. They are contemplative exercises. Meditation is a passive state in which soul sits still and awaits revelation from God. Contemplation is more active as soul uses its inner faculties to move into the spiritual worlds to actively commune with God.

Meditation

As explained in the previous answer meditation is passive, and does not take one into the pure spiritual planes.

astral projection

A very dangerous practice in which the astral body separates from the physical body to explore the astral and physical planes. The practice does not take one beyond the astral plane and the practitioner can get trapped. Used by witches and those involved in occult. It is not practiced in ECKANKAR.

angels and saints. Whats their role in the religion

These are more aware beings who work for God. They move quietly amongst humanity distributing the love of God to all souls. They are not limited by religion.

Jesus Christ. His mother and christmas

Jesus is a Soul just like you and me who was able to achieve the spiritual status of Christ Consciousness and gained the title of The Christ. Did his best to awaken souls to the recognition of their own sonship to God and was largely misunderstood even till now.
His mother made herself available to be a channel for his birth into the physical plane.
Christmas is a date created by the Roman Catholic Church to celebrate this birth of Jesus not necessarily his actual birth date.

chakras

Energy centres in the physical body that corresponds to different areas of the inner worlds and are also gateways to spiritual planes

Polygamy

ECKANKAR does not interfer in an individual personal life choices. It is left for the individual to decide what is best for his spiritual development under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Hell

simply a state of consciousness characterized by negativity, disirderlyness , wickedness and generally absence of love and any place where individuals with such state of consciousness are gathered can be classified as a hellish place

ECKANKAR is not affiliated to any religion. It is a religion of its own. It is The Path of Spiritual Freedom.
ECK is another name for The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the divine essence of God in expression and it is the custodian of all truth. The Spiritual Exercises of ECK enables Soul to have direct experiences with the Holy Spirit which brings about Love and spiritual maturity. In ECKANKAR, the politics and social trapping that is used to obscure truth in other religions are completely cleared and Soul experiences truth in its pure state without interference from dogmatic principles.

Is it possible for me to just learn all about the organisation without being an Eckist?

ECKANKAR is open to all souls. You don't need to be a member to know all about the organization. You are free to attend service of light and sound on Sundays and Discussion classes on other days. You are also free to read and study ECK books.
