Dayo, we've heard these lamentation and chestbeating bout your sophistication a billion times. E no change reality. It has become a cliche and everyone mocks you with it. grin

Fact 1. Yoruba waited for the rest of the country to conceded to the presidency to them. That why the first and ONLY elected yoruba presidency emerged when all the parties fielded Yoruba. Therefore according to you yorubas are lazy. Na you talk am.

Fact 2. Ekwueme was never defeated by OBJ. Shagari was a figure that midwived 1999 presidency, him and the likes of Orji Uzor persuaded Ekwueme to step down because yorubas were still burning and killing non-indigenes in their region. OPC was founded that period as yoruba militia.

Fact 3. The only time yoruba voters ever put anyone in presidency was in 2015 (which was a close call because it was mainly between the North and Southern minority) just yesterday. Before then, there had been 5 presidential elections and Yoruba voters failed while Eastern voters won. So the facts and factoid do not agree with you that East votes are not needed. Even right there in Lagos. Candidates wear more Igbo regalia than agbada on campaign posters they spend millions to print. If Eastern votes are 'useless' that won't be happening.

Take heart and watch the politics go in 2024, if Nigeria is still lucky enough to still remain a geographical expression by then. . grin

It is not a sermon per se. It is a factoid. Many yorubas like the OP who started the thread are shocked that the East have woken up to yoruba antics. Directing your message to him will be appropriate

Which facts? The lies you wrote up there which were disproved within minutes

life2017:
Since the story of Fashola and Osibanjo asking South west to vote APC so that presidency will come to South west (South in general) in 2023, the way Igbos have reacted have been very pathetic and pitiful.

What many of them are saying is that PDP will field a Northerner if APC field a South west candidate in 2023.
What Igbos are saying by that is that they have accepted defeat ahead against a Yoruba candidate. They believe if APC field a Yoruba candidate and PDP field an Igbo candidate, that the Yoruba will beat the igbo with landslide victory. What a pitiful situation? That is what happen when u isolate yourself and burn down bridges over lack of emotional intelligence!

It means Igbos don't believe any Igbo man dead or alive can defeat any Yoruba man in 2023. And they also don't believe any Igbo man dead or alive can defeat a Northerner in Nigeria Presidential race.

Thus what Igbos are hoping for is a Situation where the two major parties (APC and PDP) field candidate from South East so that they won't have to compete or work for it. That is delusion. Even Buhari and Atiku are not from the same geopolitical zone. Buhari is north west while Atiku is North east.

What Igbos fail to understand is that South South might have join South East on Anti Buhari stand, South South will not join them on Anti Yoruba Stand. If a Yoruba contest against a Northerner in 2023, South South will give most vote to the Yoruba. South South is not part of the cold war between Yorubas and Igbos. We are not stupid. We SS don't have any personal issue with the Yorubas.

Another thing Igbos may fail to understand is that Northerners are calculative and politically mature. Even if PDP field kwankwanso, he will not get a unified Northern support against a Yoruba candidate from APC as long as Buhari endorse the Yoruba with clear message of one good turn deserves another. Alot of Northerners will allign with the Yoruba candidate. Should the Yoruba candidate win despite South East opposition, just know the next time presidency comes to South it will come to South South.

As far as I am concerned if Buhari wins 2019, 2023 presidency will be contested by the whole South. That is South South, South East and South West will compete for it. No Southern region will get it on a platter of gold. Every region and tribe in the South is qualified for Southern Presidency in 2023. After all, South South is yet to do Eight years. We did just 5.3 years. We are still yet to govern for full blown 8 years . Nobody should be hoping to get 2023 presidency as a gift. Every region in the South is qualified. Period.

In summary, the most peaceful scenario in 2023 in the case Buhari wins 2019, is if APC chose a South South candidate. Both igbo and Yoruba will allign. None of them will want to be seen as enemy of South South because of Niger Delta oil. And Nothing will destroy Biafra agitation more than APC fielding a South South Candidate and PDP fielding a South East candidate or a Northern candidate. As there is no one Nigeria without South South oil, there is no Biafra without South South Oil. South South oil is the umblical cord keeping Nigeria together as one.

Good and intelligent write up. I have some issues with your claims in the bolded. Starting from bottom up...

In the list of Top5 diversified economies in the South (non-oil), the top three are in SW. These three, when you look on IGR list for Southern States are Lagos, Ogun and Oyo.

So the oil in SS is not a base for our economies in SW. If you shut off the oil today many regions, including your SS, will suffer greatly. In fact doing so will lead to migrant families uprooting from other regions, including SS, and relocating to SW to live because it will be the only place supporting survival.

Even as we speak, with oil regularly flowing, SW is indeed the place of hope and secured future against many threats to life in other regions. No place in Nigeria is host to diversified population as much SW is. We host people across the West African States in addition to our own countrymen.

When it comes to human rights abuse, security risks, poor economic performance, religious intolerance and other such dramas...we are insulated. Crimes are fought with precision and quickness. All these is possible because of the type of government we run and the calibre of people we put in place to run the administration.

In a sense SW is tested every day with all the challenges of social demographics and economic pressure and yet we hold up and produce at even better scale. No other region in Nigeria can match us.

Definitely no region in South can stand to us, even the oil producing region, SS.

We operate a self developed and independent Think-Tank called DAWN. This development commission strives to integrate and unify purpose for all Yorubas, including those in Kwara and Kogi...but currently focuses on just SW. Their drive is for BEST PRACTICE in governance and COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE for production and excellence.

No other development commission in Nigeria is self developed and independent, or focused on integration and excellence.

In the oil producing areas, SS, NDDC has been a drain and a waste of resources and missed its target for purpose. Plus it is controlled by the center.

Politically, SW builds manpower and resource through mainstream approach and democratize the process of governance from bottom up and top to bottom. We carefully select and put office holders through a capacity test. If they fail we have a process in place to rectify the failure and put a remedy in place. We have a process for multiplying values. We have process for mentoring. We have a mediation program and conflict resolution process. Even though we practice democracy, our approach to humanity and its many issues is through social welfare and support system.

So we use democracy as a vehicle to address the many challenges of manpower, production and conflicts.

Example of conflict resolution - OPC was an ethnic militant group formed to fight anti-Yoruba forces. It performed successfully and impressively and was able to accomplish its goal. When there was no outside enemy left to fight OPC turned inward to start fighting Yorubas. Our leaders saw this and quickly got involved and turned OPC to a security force and a cultural vanguard. They patrol wards and keep crime at check. In certain challenging and daring operations where the police or military could not go in they partner with OPC and get the job done. OPC has also travelled round the world promoting Yoruba culture.

In the SS there are numerous militant groups. They have become the default political drivers. Any SS Governor that defy their order does so at his own risk. When they ordered Okowa of Delta not to negotiate a deal with FG the Governor did as was told. When GEJ was President the Delta militants issued threats left and right.

As far as partisan politics goes, how many states in SS are APC? What is your capacity to take SS from PDP and give to APC? Given the just recent poor outing by Jonathan and the bad taste he left in the mouth of many Nigerians who do you have in SS that has undergone rigours of governance and proven ready to lead the nation?

SW operates governance on a scale above the FG. SW is a yardstick for true governance in Nigeria. Any region in the South vying for Presidency must produce someone who is at peerage or above, not below, with a government executive in SW.

We remain the standard to beat!

Nigeria is past the point we will be giving leadership to someone or allowing someone to rule because they have not ruled in past. Every region needs to pull up its bootstraps and show us what capacity they have to take this country to Next Level.

Your concern about the cross tension between SW and SE is not convincing. SE does not stand a chance where SW is. Even SS with its oil does not stand a chance.

The only benefit of oil is revenue. Oil does not fight crime, oil does not build and improve society, oil does not build manpower and excellence, oil does not accomodate diversity. All these are done with skills and competencies and no region in South can beat SW when it comes to political governance and economic performance....which is the all round criteria we will need our next President to posess.

We will not have it in Buhari...but we are prepared to put a Yorubaman there after him because we know what the Yorubas have done and what they can do. We also know what the SS people have not done and cannot do. Im not even going to talk about SE because like I said they are not even a contender on any of the areas and scopes I shared so far.

Now, if we were to include oil economy. Again in South, in the Top5 economies SW is there.

If we look at total income, oil and non oil, in Top5 income generators, again SW occupy 2 positions.

So anyway you cut economy SW is the standard. Anyway you cut politics, SW is the standard. Anyway you cut diversity, SW is the model. Anyway you cut social programs, SW holds the medal.

....and if you look in APC you will see SW is the most successful.

Why shouldn't a Yoruba be the President of Nigeria in 2023?

Well historically we know one side to be cowards scared of facing Northerners

First republic, Awolowo faced Balewa, Zik and Ibos hid behind Balewa
Second republic Awolowo challenged Shagari, Ekwueme and Ibos hid behind Shagari
Third republic Abiola challenged Tofa, Sylvester Ugo and Ibos hid behind Tofa
Fourth Republic OBJ challeneged Buhari, Ibos and Okadigbo hid behind Northerners

Stop your miserable sermon, yorubas will contest APC Presidential primary in 2023, igbos will not blackmail anyone.
Meet yorubas on the political field

Superb response. Where is the mythical Igbo bravery? Since Fashola and Osinbajo have demonstrated the change in Yoruba thinking in the modern age I warned them SW folks now work with ?

We will now go after what we want without mincing words. No more political correctness. We helped create APC and played our part in its success at State at federal level and we expect reward for that. Politics 101.

Igbo response to the direct and amitious approach of Fashola, Osinbajo and others has been very disappointing. They have not manned up or shown any interest to square up against us. Instead, like those accustomed to losing, they have lamely gone around saying they will not run and will be happy for the North to field a candidate they will then get behind to defeat us.

In short they are not interested in something as transformational as the Presidency and would rather focus vengefully on doing anything that impedes the success of the Yorubas who are now showing ambition and a united focus.

How incredibly cowardly and defeatist. Whatever happens in 2023 at least Yorubas are showing Liver and I know doing this will always be feared and rewarded by others unlike where Igbos , with their cowardice, have put themselves.

Others don't even have minimal regard for them because all Nigeria can now see that Igbos don't respect nor act as if they believe in themselves. They are now seen as a "food is ready" group alwayd waiting to eat without taking part in the cooking process. Sad.

Atimes I wonder why my Igbo brothers engage this low lives. Thats usually our problem. We already know that these people mistrust us. So the least we can do is to frustrate any Yoruba presidency by playing politics of necessity. How do we do it? We all know that Igbo presidency is not a do or die affair like its for the Yorubas. The Igbos just need a standard play ground for all to prosper. Either that or give us our country. Now what is the Politics of necessity am talking about? Igbos will be commiting a political suicide by presenting a candidate in 2023 to compete against a Yoruba man in 2023. The smart thing to do is to play politics of necessity. Simply field another Northern candidate like Kwankwaso or Tambuwal with A south South VP like Wike or South East VP like Obi or Ekweremmadu! Voila! There goes the Yoruba dreams of having a President chosen by them! The aim here is to frustrate Yoruba presidency. So give another 8 years to the North! Shey na only them sabi backstabbing?

Read my post above yours to know Yorubas have worked you out and we are miles ahead of you. You literally confirmed what I said which is that Igbo focus is to frustrate Yorubas and not to try and do what is necessary to gain the chance to lead Nigeria. As it is now, it is for the south to duke out 2023 but you cowards have given up already and are now limiting your 2023 engagement to be about frustrating Yoruba ambition. How tragic for you.

We build bridges and engage the North because we understand negotiating in life is important as no man is an Island and that you can't go it alone. Why wait till 2023 to do that?

We have been telling you long before the PDP primary in PH what we intend to do in 2023. Your Kwara god, Saraki even declared publicly to you that Tinubu is scheming to be President after Buhari.

Did you not hear him? grin

Now, to show how politically naive you Ibos are. After knowing Yoruba will go for 2023...you gave all your delegate votes to Atiku.

Now you are crying....buyer's remorse! Was Tambuwal not a candidate in the PH primary, or you didnt see his teeth? How about Kwankwaso, did you mistake his red hat for an Iboman? grin

If you like sef line up behind IBB for president and put Ekweremadu as VP na you go still lose. See how you already commited errors and lost 2019 before the polls have even started counting.

Here...keep this, the numbers will change for 2023 but the rankings will be same.

Now what makes you think we can't build same "bridges" you guys purportedly built? So when the Yolobas fooolishly gave the North their vote in 2015, it wasn't lickin their shoes? When we talk about society and humanities, our debate with Ibo is non merited because you are not even at a level and scale we should engage. This majority thing that gave you third majority is really a bad outcome generally for everybody. You are the wrong majority in Nigeria.

Eniyan mi, this is what I keep telling them. We are coming out early with our ambition because we are focused, confident of victory and completely sure of ourselves. Every region has dishonourable men but Northerners are honourable in comparison to others in Nigeria.

Match that consideration with how Igbos do not realise no one plays politics of hate and enmity that they do and it will be a shocker for them to see even the PDP present a Yoruba candidate in 2023. Igbos are the only ethnic group who fail to understand the fundumental principles about politics being about permanent interests and not permanent friends or foes. The SW get that. The North does too . So too Middle bet , SS and every other region.

A Yoruba will be President in 2023 and we can start a lottery challenge here with Igbos on NL. Let us all put our names and money into a central lottery pool Nairaland can organise. If Yorubas do not produce the President in 2023 Igbos who contributed take the total loot. If Yorubas win we who contributed take the booty. I will put N200K because I know I will get N1 million back if Igbos will shun cowardice and put their money where there mouth is to meet us mano a mano. Man for man.

Lol. Tambuwal and Kwankwaso are not d0mb. They see that Atiku has Ibo behind him. He is going to loose and become a lessons learnt for them.....the "what not to do" in politics; and they will shy away from touching any Ibo as a VP. They will even shy away from your endorsements. They dont want to be stained with it and loose.

Your best bet is 2019. Im telling you. If Atiku looses he will not be able to shake off the Ibo risk and others will learn to avoid Ibo.

You under estimate Nigerian politicians. grin grin
You Yoruba will understand the reality after Buhari presidency which will end in shame because Buhari is no more and Nigeria ruled by Al shabab element.
Yoruba will not be president in 2023.

I knew this post was fake when I got to 'we South south'

Yoruba are ingrates for trying to grab 2023 presidency. They have their turn and others should have theirs.

What others? After OBJ the North, SS and then North have had it. Yorubas, with the pivotal APC merger and with PMB winning all States bar Ekiti in 2015 and likely to win all SW States in FeBuhari, have gone on to show they are loyal and understand the need to build bridges thus cementing their image as a people others can trust. Igbos have gone on to create for themselves an image of a people who hate all others and must never be trusted with ultimate power.

It is sad you guys operate several levels below Yorubas in terms of intellect because if not for that you would realise that Yorubas current confident posturing is a 50-50 mix of belief in our own ability and the knowledge we are the ones who, by far, have done enough to be the only candidate the North can view as worthy of their support and those they can safely and comfortably trust with power.

You are a funny character and typical Igbo guy. You say Yorubas have had their turn and others should. Is that how life works? I.e reap where you have not sown because it is 'your turn'?

So your neighbour who has been rude and physically violent towards you for years and has shown open hatred for you will marry your daughter so he then becomes an enemy within in your family and you would be okay with that because it is his turn? Talk sense dude.

Igbos qualify as per equity but you are disqualified, and I would say for at least 30 years unless you change the way you act and talk publicly, because of your hateful conduct. To make things worse people like you come her insulting others instead of showing remorse and conciliatory behaviour that will endear you to Nigerians.

When Yorubas were building bridges with the North, via TINUBU merging his ACN with CPC to form APC, you called us "slaves of the terrorist Jihadists" and claimed "SW licking aboki/Fulani azz". Today you dare to talk about "your turn" after such behaviour?

You guys are cowards because real men live and die by their words and action. When you were busy alienating the North and SW you should know this would cost you their support you should, if upright and brave men, have no moral justification to go and seek in future.

To now talk of your turn, or to claim the Yorubas should not profit from their mature politics, just shows how deluded you are. If I insult someone everyday and has made an enemy of him, how can I feel I am entitled to go to him for help in future just because I am desperate? Only you guys don't appreciate this. Turn ko Tonto Dike ni.

Forget all those figures Oke. Just wait till 2023. The average Hausa okada rider will not attend a mosque a Yoruba man is an Imam not to talk of having one as President. Let's not talk too much. My vote is for Atiku... Pending the command Nnamdi Kanu gives. If he says no election... Then bye bye to the Fulani man! Butbif he says vote, I will vote Atiku hands down!

Now come 2023, PDP will will field Tambuwal. Please field your Osibanjo and meet us at the Playing field. E go dawn for your eyes soon!

And, I thought it odd; Pentecostal's refuse to attend Catholic churches.
