This is just academic argument. Whether u call it South South, Niger Delta oil producing states, or call it mid west or even if you choose not to call it any zone. Edo state is still Edo state. Delta State is still Delta State. Akwa ibom state is still Akwa Ibom state. And cross Rivers State is still cross Rivers State.

What is clear is that Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom and cross Rivers State voted Abiola. Today, those state with Rivers and Bayelsa make up SS. Whether they were called South South then or not doesn't change anything on the demography.

Someone is comparing a 90s election where there was more peace to now when such is not present and Yoruba exposed your selfishness to the whole country. You people are trying to foster a man who's brought nothing but death and poverty to continue just so you people can get a hand on the seat after him, not caring how many people are killed or how much poverty, corruption and loss of employment, etc happen on the way to you people's dream. you actually expected any South state will vote you people after you exposed that your rooting for Buhari is based solely on selfish ambition. Remind again, apart from Edo state which other states in SS have been politically aligning with SW since that election? Keep living in the past, as I said, a very rude, heartbreaking, awakening is waiting for Yoruba come 2023. Keep using the past as justification of what will transpire. South East had four states then. Abiola lost 3 and won 1. South East was the only region Abiola lost.

1) Obasanjo
2) Alex Ekueme
3) Jim Nwobodo
4) Don Etiebet
5) Philip Asiodu.


B) Obasanjo defeated them all and nobody stepped down for anybody.

By 1999, Alh Sheu Shagari was already old and in fragile State of Health.

Fact 1. Yoruba waited for the rest of the country to conceed to the presidency to them in 1999. That's why the first and ONLY elected yoruba presidency emerged when all the parties fielded Yoruba. Therefore according to you yorubas are lazy. Na you talk am. No be me.

Fact 2. Ekwueme was never defeated by OBJ. Shagari was a figure that midwived 1999 presidency, him and the likes of Orji Uzor persuaded Ekwueme to step down because yorubas were still burning and killing non-indigenes in their region. OPC was founded that period as yoruba militia.


Fact 3. The only time yoruba voters ever put anyone in presidency was in 2015 (which was a close call because it was mainly between the North and a Southern minority) just yesterday. Before then, there had been 5 presidential elections and Yoruba voters failed while Eastern voters won. So the facts and factoids do not agree with you that Eastern votes are not needed. Even right there in Lagos, your political Candidates wear more Igbo regalia than agbada on campaign posters they spend millions to print. They seek Igbo endorsement. If Eastern votes are 'useless' that won't be happening.



Take heart and watch how the politics go in 2023, if Nigeria is still lucky enough to still remain a geographical expression by then.
