US embassy closes indefinitely!!
Not true, It is the American center in the Embassy, not the whole Consulate/Embassy. Visa interviews and issuance are not affected.
A simple phone call to the Embassy by the Punch correspondent would have prevented this shoddy-clickbaiting-blogging disguised as journalism.

Hello everyone. I just heard they do now do scan at d airport to knw if one is fit to fly. Pls is this true

I am not sure about doing scanning. But depending on your airliner, you need to show your 'fit to fly' memo if you are more than 28 weeks gone before you can be allowed to board. No need to lie about your weeks in the memo if you are not more than 36 weeks pregnant. Good luck.

Hello everyone,

I really need your help; I have a B1/B2 valid visa which I have use before; am due to travel in February and I sent an email to the embassy informing them that I would be traveling to have my baby and I got the below response from them less than an hour ago. Please I need advise on how to book a second appointment and what to expect. Thanks

“Thank you for your inquiry.

Our records indicate that you applied for a different purpose of travel during your recent interview and/or DS-160 form submission. As your purpose of travel has now changed significantly to include medical treatment in the United States, you will need to return to the Consulate for a second interview. Please note that your visa is not valid for travel at this time.

For your second interview, you should bring all available information related to your planned medical treatment including correspondence with your doctor, the estimated cost of the procedure(s), any receipts showing prepayment for care, and evidence that you have the ability to pay for all costs while in the United States up to and including living expenses for yourself and any dependents. If the purpose of your travel is childbirth, you should also include a detailed birth plan.

If you have received any kind of medical treatment in the United States on previous visits, you will also need to bring evidence of payment of all fees and charges incurred to the interview. You should note any discounts or price adjustments received and indicate the source of these adjustments if known.

Wow...it seems the US consular's policy on childbirth has shifted... without any big announcement.

My guess is that you need to complete a new DS160 and book a new appointment if they are saying your visa is no longer valid.

Just quickly do it..all the very best

Wowwwww, it looks like this change of intent email is no longer valid. I know someone who has had a similar experience after sending her change of intent email, they called her for an interview and with held her passport for administrative review promising that she will hear back from them in 1/2 weeks.

May God help us all because i really don't understand what is going on.

This confirms my assertion! there is a vendetta on Nigerians for US visa issuance especially for child birth related cases. I was at the Lagos embassy on the 19th of December for an interview following a 221g refusal due to my hospital zero balance ( story for another post)
My advice will be that you get a hospital that charges nothing less than $10k minus doctors fee and other charges.
During my both interviews, the emphasis was on the amount I paid for the hospital( $5000) despite stressing that I paid my doctor fee and some bills. I even mentioned the amount I spent on accommodation and living expenses but the VO told me it wasn’t her business and kept insisting the hospital bill was ridiculously small.
Note: after my 221g, I emailed my hospital explaining my experience during my interview and a letter stating in details the reason for the discount was sent, tried presenting the letter but the VO refused, insisting it was not a bill and the content was not her business..
The earlier you schedule your interview, the better.
I wish you all the best and pray God touches the VO that interviews you.

This is really confusing. I thought that the B1 B2 visa also allows for medical purposes in the US. Why is it a must you send a letter of intent before embarking on a medical journey knowing fully well that the visa itself covers this purpose. Especially if one has used the visa for one of its purpose like vacation before medical purpose. These things are tiring.

St Mary has sent me bill of 7k for normal and 8k for CS; I have the correspondence with me; but I want to ask for more detailed bill so I can take it along with me to the embassy.

I had my B1/B2 visa before getting pregnant, I found out I was pregnant barely a week after my initial visa interview ( it was mentioned during my interview) but I travelled for a 2weeks vacation first, sent a notification of intent and travelled for birthing after wards.
In these present time, I won’t suggest you send an email as the response will definitely be same as the one above. Except you are ready for an interview which the chances of getting a visa is slim.
If you can travel before your delivery good, if otherwise hold on to God in prayers. Getting a US visa now requires Devine intervention.
Wish you all the best!

Yes, the US visa officers are aware that most applicants say that even when deep down it's a lie.

Wow! The overflogged “Change of Intent Letter” finally has reached this level, as expected some day though.... This is pretty scary now, the heat is on. Good luck to you all from this point onward!

Seems too it may now lead to about almost the equivalent of a 221g refusal from the tone of that reply mail above. This is a very strong warning signal/salvo sent out by the embassy right now! #Sighs

I will say that the US embassy was forced to start acting on letter of change of intent. People who refused to stop sending such letter can now enjoy this outcome.

Waoh, this is definitely a game changer.
OK now, this brings to an end the era of change of intent letter. People in similar situations are faced with 2 options, either to travel without informing the embassy and hope for the best at POE or apply for a fresh medical visa.

Unfortunately, having a medical visa is no guarantee, speaking from personal experience. I applied for a medical visa, presented the package I was going to use for the child birth purpose, I was given the medical visa, proceeded to use it, had a total medical bill of over $10k, paid ALL my bills, crossed all my T's and dotted all my I's. Traveled twice after initial child birth on same medical visa. Fast forward to time of renewal, I was invited in for an interview and denied a visa, was not pregnant, just trying to renew for holiday and shopping purposes.
I am not trying to be a Debbie downer here, just felt I should put this out there, so people are more prepared for the outcome of their interview and if possible plan early for other countries that give similar opportunities like the US.
It is obvious there is a vendetta against Nigeria. I am yet to see someone who falls under the bucket of child birth who has successfully renewed their visa in the last 6months.
P.S: If you are applying for a medical visa, take a package that shows at least 15k as the total bill and be able to show you can pay it, still not a guarantee as these people are currently VEXING. All the best guys.

Wow! Did you put your passport number in the email you sent to them?
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Mandydaisy: 10:09am On Jan 03, 2019
I think the best thing to do is not add passport number and use initials because at POE some people get asked if they notified the embassy so what then do you do?

I've heard lately of people who paid ALL their bills and were trying to renew for visit purpose but got denied. This new banning policy is a norm for VO's not because of low bills or refusal to pay bills.
