Here's a throwback picture of the crew members who died on board the Mi-35M Helicopter, which crashed in combat while providing air support for ground troops in Damasak, Borno state.

The deceased personnel, whose remains have been recovered to Maiduguri, are:

Flight Lieutenant Perowei Jacob – Pilot in Command.
Flight Lieutenant Kaltho Paul Kilyofas – Co-Pilot.
Sergeant Auwal Ibrahim  – Flight Technician.
Lance Corporal Adamu Nura – Gunner.
Aircraftman Meshack Ishmael – Gunner.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar was in Maiduguri today, 3 January 2019, to convey the condolences of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammed Buhari, to personnel of the Air Task Force Operation LAFIYA DOLE over the unfortunate loss.

hmm so sad RIP gentlemen...The loss of that MI35 gunship is a big loss to the fight against terror because it's the only accurate platform the Nigerian airforce has .

The critical thing of note here is that Boko haram now possesses the ability to shoot down low fling aircraft and attack helicopters and this ability will be a big blow to soldiers on the ground who rely on close air support to get the job done .

Was it not the same chopper that the Nigerian army denied reports that it crashed?

Too sad. May God Almighty repose their souls. They died fighting for a country that thinks nothing of their sacrifice. In the end, just their immediate family bears the brunt.

Clueless and lifeless government is wasting the lives of young officers.

I do not like reading about losses of well-trained personnels to a supposedly ragtag group. I'm surprised at the way our military heads carries on as if all is well. I'm sure there is no national honors for the fallen heroes or benefits to the surviving families. I'm so angry reading about avoidable deaths.
