Is Repentance Without Restitution Enough? by Nobody: 6:42pm On Jan 05, 2019
One of the hardest doctrines of Christianity is restitution. it is not just a Christian doctrine, but it has cases and Bible verses. The question is, after we repent of our sins, should we go back to apologise to those we offended, stole from, deceived, lied against, slandered terribly, cheated on & so on? If a man was an Adulterer and he repents, should he go back to his wife to confess it?? or a woman slept with someone who is not her husband, should she go to her husband to confess it

Restitution must be done, but with wisdom, counsel & sometimes divine instructions

You should do restitution where it is possible but when restitution is no longer possible, repentance is enough

We must repent (make it right with God) and make restitution (making it right with the person you wronged).

Before making restitution you must pray and ask God to protect you as do this and also pray that He touches the heart of the person you are making restitution to.

For extreme cases such as murder, rape, adultery etc, it is advisable that you seek the counsel of Pastors, elders, or possibly family members of the offended person before making restitution. These people can advise whether face to face restitution can be made or whether it is better to carry out some act to help the offended without making contact with them.

Sometimes and in such cases as adultery, there can't be repentance without restitution.
As a single guy, I had an affair with a married colleague for 2years. Who was living away from her hubby. When I realised all she said about her husband was lies, and I called off the affair... I had no peace until I called her husband (who I got to know) and apologised, asked for his forgiveness and confessed to my then gfrnd who left .
But that was when I truly felt peace and got over her.
Becoz all the other times I decided to quit, I always got back with her until I did restitution.
Sometimes, restitution is the only real repentance.

How does one restitute a wife whom one coveted(as a girlfriend) from his friend when they dated in their youth?

Well, I believe apology is a better restitution after repentance. Otherwise, a man who steals before his repentance would have to return everything he bought with the ill-gotten money including his underwear.

I believe he got that special grace and there are cases which restitution may not be possible.... At that point, he could not return all that he had stole Cox he was at the point of death... So genuine repentance is enough if restitution isn't possible... Most especially grace, that thief got that grace which another person may not get

Asin ehn! This religion of a thing indeed

The scriptures talking about righteousness makes us understand that it's not of works, lest any man should boast, it is the gift of God (Ephe 2:8-9).. And you know what righteousness does? It makes one approach the throne of grace boldly without any form of guilt, condemnation or inferiority complex.

So how will restitution, being one's work make repentance enough? Indeed, religion sef

When a man is born again, old things have passed away. .. just leave whatever you are doing and follow jesus, Jesus is restitution

How many disciples did restitution before following christ?

Restitution can discourage a sinner and lead him/her right back to sin

If you have peace in Christ Jesus, you don't need restitution, JESUS PAID THE PRICE IN FULL...

Have a blessed week ahead and a prosperous new year members

In the New Testament, we have the wonderful example of Zacchaeus in Luke 19. Jesus is visiting Zacchaeus's home, and the people who know the chief publican to be a wicked and oppressive man are beginning to murmur about His associating with a sinner (verse 7). "But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost"" (verses 8-10). From Zacchaeus's words, we gather that 1) he had been guilty of defrauding people, 2) he was remorseful over his past actions, and 3) he was committed to making restitution. From Jesus' words, we understand that 1) Zacchaeus was saved that day and his sin was forgiven, and 2) the evidence of his salvation was both his public confession (see Romans 10:10) and his relinquishing of all ill-gotten gains. Zacchaeus repented, and his sincerity was evident in his immediate desire to make restitution. Here was a man who was penitent and contrite, and the proof of his conversion to Christ was his resolve to atone, as much as possible, for past sins.

The same holds true for anyone who truly knows Christ today. Genuine repentance leads to a desire to redress wrongs. When someone becomes a Christian, he will have a desire born of deep conviction to do good, and that includes making restoration whenever possible. The idea of "whenever possible" is crucially important to remember. There are some crimes and sins for which there is no adequate restitution. In such instances, a Christian should make some form of restitution that demonstrates repentance, but at the same time, does not need to feel guilty about the inability to make full restitution. Restitution is to be a result of our salvation"it is not a requirement for salvation. If you have received forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus Christ, all of your sins are forgiven, whether or not you have been able to make restitution for them.

Seek restitution when you killed someone's child and you're now born again. Sometimes we need to be streetSmart in Christ.

Once you've confessed your sins, it's enough.

Blessings to you sir

May I state here that Zaccheus was saved because of his HEART and not necessarily his ACTIONS

Jesus knew he was truly sorry and saw his heart

If you have Jesus, and holy spirit, they will guide you on your journey in him ...

If you do restitution and your heart is still not repented, you are not saved

Let's leave restitution for the holy spirit, and find peace only in christ Jesus

If the holy spirit wants restitution from you, you would be informed

Imagine Paul seeking restitution, his ministry would have been over before it even started. ..

Restitution is an arrow Satan uses to weigh Xtians down

Imagine sleeping with a married woman, and you later turn to born again, Satan would start pricking your heart with guilt and tell you that you are fake unless you confess to the woman's husband.

Just confess your sins and sin no more... focus only on jesus, he alone has peace

Restitution(fixing the damage that your action caused, returning back what you stole or what you lied about, and also making peace)is compulsory and infact needed before forgiveness can occur.I guess the hardest part of repentance is confession. But you will realize that you will feel peace after genuine and sincere confession.

Can't BE said any better. Fela once sang "You get sense and common sense buh you no wise at all... You no get sense wiseness"

Let's be street smart always. Once I've confessed my sins, I'm fine. No issues. Is na petty stealing, yeah no issues. My elder bruh once beat me and I threw his Integrated Science book inside our pit latrine way back in the 90s. Later when we came to serve in Nasarawa state and he came by Abj, I sought restitution and apologized. He forgave me.

Just go and tell the priest or god of man of the sins you have committed and he will say, go my son and sin no more for your sins have been forgiven. grin grin grin grin

Imagine a human being erasing another human being of his entire sins through his proclamation "You have been Forgiving" just like that.

You once slept with your neighbour's wife whose husband is a soldier, you now born again and thinking in the name of restitution to confess to the husband....hmmmm.....

1. You are about to break a home

2. You are are about to land in a hot soup....

Once one has genuinely repented of his bad ways, restitution is not necessary because no man have the power to forgive except God....what God demands is a true and genuine repentance and a contrite spirit.

A. While you and I are still sinners Christ already died for us Rom 5:8

B. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8:11

C. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death...Rom 8:1

D. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Cor 5:17

E. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. ... John 8:36

NB: Those are based on my personal opinion and current understanding of the scripture.
