OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE GIVE BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS BLOODY NOSE

In their determined efforts of wiping the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have embarked on aggressive clearance operations on suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideouts and crossing points with tremendous results. It is in this line that they neutralised quite a number of them and recovered various calibre of arms and ammunition in such areas around Goniri in Yobe State, Damasak, Kross Kauwa and Monguno, among other locations in Borno State. Specifically, the 120 Battalion and the newly formed Nigerian Army Special Forces Command have neutralised over 100 Boko Haram terrorists in various encounters. The Nigerian Air Force Air Task Force component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have been giving close air support to ground troops and also faciliating hot pursuit of fleeing infiltrating terrorists in the on going operations. Significantly, the Air Task Force have destroyed several Boko Haram terrorists gun trucks and facilities. The gallant troops have also been repelling attempted efforts by the terrorists to infiltrate their locations. Buoyed by the Chief of Army Staff's presence and motivation, the troops in the frontline are in renewed positive fighting spirit across the theatre to stop incursions and annihilate the terrorists. The battle has now further shifted to the fringes of Lake Chad and other suspected Boko Haram terrorists enclave along the borders.

If this is true, great job on them in managing to take the momentum back. Involving larger numbers of SF on the front makes a major difference when fighting a group like BH, but my opinion is that... at this stage in their efforts, the NA really needs to start actually showing video and pictures of the activities. I mean that of the actual dead BH, many folks will call this report a lie and or highly doubt the accuracy of it after all of the issues the force has been having in their fight against BH and other insurgent groups. A picture and video is worth a thousand words as they say. Showing a couple of old guns and some ammo on a blanket every time they say they had a success aint gonna cut it for most. They will get the support of the people they desire to have once they begin showing actual solid visual proof of their successes, guaranteed. That's just my opinion. American, Russian, British soldiers all visually document most of their engagements against ISIS and the Taliban and post them on Youtube or facebook as proof that they are successfully cutting them down. The Nigerian Air Force is doing a good job of this, the Army really needs to stop being shady, and follow suite.

A question I posed on the pictures thread, just as applicable here:

frumentius:
Some people here keep wailing about ISWAP's "sophisticated assaults" on the FOBs. Maybe I've missed something, can someone please point out what's so sophisticated about indirect and direct fire support (technicals with recoilless guns, Shilkas, assorted calibre HMGs, assorted grenade launchers + mortars + rocket launchers) being used to support the fire and movement of infantry with rifles, RPGs and LMGs in their manoeuvre towards an objective?

Sounds pretty basic to me. Like I said, maybe I'm missing something?

The Egyptian army is operating now a huge fleet of different UAVs including reconnaissance/Combat types, so they do not really need support from Israel for such strikes, especially as Israel will not take a risk and send UAVs to this war zone while the Egyptian army owns them.

Troops have killed over 100 Boko Haram terrorists in recent various clearance operations in Yobe and Borno, the army said in a statement on Monday.

Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, the spokesman of the army said the terrorists were killed at Goniri in Yobe, Damasak, Kross Kauwa and Monguno, among other locations in Borno.

According to him, various caliber of arms and ammunition were recovered from them.

Usman said the Nigerian Air Force Air Task Force component of Operation Lafiya Dole had been giving close air support to ground troops and also facilitates the pursuit of fleeing terrorists.

“Significantly, the air task force have destroyed several Boko Haram terrorists gun trucks and facilities.

“The gallant troops have also been repelling attempted efforts by the terrorists to infiltrate their locations.”

He said buoyed by the presence of Chief of Army Staff and motivation, the troops were renewed in fighting spirit and had stopped terrorists’ incursions.

“The battle has now further shifted to the fringes of Lake Chad and other suspected Boko Haram terrorists enclave along the borders,” Usman said.

Silly people, is this how you issue invitation? I mean, why do we always use force with everything? All you have to do is question whoever wrote the article and figure out their source, which of course real journalists will never divulge, but still you don't need tens of soldiers and cops for this, and no need to seize their equipments either

To be honest, if an American News outlet did do and or is suspected of having done what these news outlets are accused of doing, I beleive FBI would have been ordered to do the same thing. The issue here is that the Military was involved in the operation. The task should of been left up to the Nigerian Police or the Nigerian FBI equivalent.

Militarily, Egypt is light years ahead of the rest of Africa. "slight exaggeration", but you get the point. They are doing an amazing job with keeping up with their advancement in weaponry and equipment, and all of their equipment is kept looking very professional without all of the silly camo coloring all over their aircraft. Their soldiers always look well supplied, organized and disciplined. You can tell they take great pride in their forces.

Saudi Arabia money is working grin , if there is anything the Egyptians are good at, it's sucking Saudi's t!ts.

But on a serious note, here is a country that takes its military seriously. A true regional power. Professional and sophisticated, and they aren't budgeting more than $5bln(minus US aid package).

Easy to do when a "sugar daddy" like Saudi Arabia and the UAE pays all the bills.
that's just procurement, have you looked at Egyptian maintenance, logistics and training? There's a reason they lost all those wars against tiny Israel.
But hey, if you're impressed by appearances, good for you man.

I remember last year, a lot of shotguns containers where siezed by the Nigerian customs. And sources revealed they where imported fromTurkey illegally. We haven't heard any arrest about the smugglers/importers.

Where they legal or illegal firearm His turkey the only country producing shotguns and why his it always from Turkey. Me just asking some weird question undecided

Who will support an ordinary lieutenant?, even if he is leading a platoon, how many men are in his platoon to support such a complex task?.

If it was a Major now, it would have been better, but a lieutenant?, dead on arrival.

The only way he could have succeeded was to have the entire cadre of low ranking officers on his side, which is almost impossible.
