The UK Immigration Health Surcharge, which had been expected to double in December 2018, increased on 8 January 2019 the Home Office has confirmed. The immigration health surcharge increased from £200 to £400 per year for many UK visa categories including the Tier 2 visa, Tier 1 entrepreneur visa, Sole Representative visa and Tier 1 Investor visa categories. The UK visa fee for
international students applying for the Tier 4 visa, those applying for the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa Scheme and for other Tier 5 visa applications rose from £150 to £300 per year.

You're welcome.

The UK must have amongst the highest (if not the highest) visa related fees in the World. For a large company to bring in a migrant on a Tier 2 visa with a partner and two children will be even more expensive now. For a five year Tier 2 visa for a large company to bring in the whole family of four from abroad it will cost the following:

Four Tier 2 Visa fees for up to five years. £4,880
Certificate of Sponsorship Fee. £199
Immigration Skills Charge for five years for main applicant. £5,000
Immigration Health Surcharge for five years for four family members. £8,000
Total cost for a family of four. £18,079

In reality in many cases this does not cover all the costs. Many employers will need to apply for a Tier 2 sponsor licence, will have to pay advertising costs and will pay additional fees for priority visa processing. The total cost in Government visa fee related expenses could easily be over £20,000 in this situation.

Woow! You’re joking cheesy

You know what’s funny? Sensible people voted for brexit because they wanted the government to treat all non-brits equally. So technically, for the NHS (which is predominantly non-brits) to bring in a Spanish doctor and his family, they would pay such an amount? shocked

The NHS is crashing as it is, imagine if they had to pay such an amount for their eu workers? They didn’t plan the brexit well. Shey they should have reduced the cost of education so that their youths can go to uni to study the courses that they depend on other countries for?

Anyway, It’s either they bring that £18k down for all immigrants or the country will really enter recession.

Hi Sis, long time!! Happy new year.

Once you are a dependant of a Tier 2 visa holder, you can keep extending your Tier 2 dependant visa as long as you want even after the main applicant gets his/her ILR. You will be given 3 years per extension till you are ready to apply for your own ILR.

One won't have to leave the UK to extend the Tier 2 dependant visa. One will however have to prove that you are still married and living together.

Another option is to change to the spouse of a settled person. This is not advisable as the 5 year clock to settlement will reset and start all over again.

1. With mortgage, you can fix your interest rates for a fixed no of years usually 2, 5 and 10 years. The more the years, the higher the interest rate. Fixing your rate means regardless of the change in bank of England rate, your interest rate will remain the same. Once the no of years you fixed the rate for ends, your mortgage will revert to a variable rate. At this point, you can decide to remortgage and fix your rate for another fixed years.

2. You can make overpayments but if you are on a fixed deal, you are most times allowed to pay up to 10% of your total mortgage amount per year. Any extra amount is not worth it as your lender will charge you 10% of the extra overpayments you made. If you are however on a variable rate, you can make as much overpayments as you want.

3.When you want to sell your house. The bank will collect the remaining debt first. The remainder will then be yours For instance, if you are still owing 20k and the buyer is paying you 60k, bank will collect 20k, the remaining 40k will be yours.

Word on the street is that there might not even be a Brexit. Let's see how the vote in the Commons goes today.

Regarding workers for the NHS, it is good news for Nigerian doctors and nurses who want to work in the UK as there are no more caps on the number of work visas issued. Unfortunately that leaves Nigerians with less medical workers. But what can one do, after all the Minister of Health, a Professor of Medicine and former Vice Chancellor said his tailor is a medical doctor. He also said that not every doctor can become a surgeon and farming should be considered. So if we don't need our doctors, other countries will pay handsomely for them.

You should read the new skills-based immigration system (more than 160 pages) published on 19 December 2018. They are removing the annually cap in the number of work visas issued and scrapping the resident labor market test for employers wanting to sponsor skilled foreign workers. EU migrants will no longer receive preferential treatment to Britain's labor market and everyone (EU and non-EU) will be subject to the £30,000 minimum salary threshold.

Story time oo!!!

Tier 2 Renewal using Sopra Steria services.

Like play like play, our 1 year visa don end,how time flies. Prior to renewing we assumed we must have the new visa before the old one expires so saving towards Super priority, only for us to discover that we can continue staying as long as you make an application before it expires, come and see as we happy oo, saving so much on 3 applicants (UK immigration is just too expensive).

We applied 5weeks before it actually expired using the new service and being the guinea pig for the Birmingham centre we waited more than 4hours before they attended to us, after then we did not receive any notification or acknowledgement from UKVI at all and started the 8weeks countdown, meanwhile we discovered other single applicant we applied with at the same appointment got their visa and BRP within 2 weeks but for we with plenty family they took their time sotey , eventually we got decision letter via royal mail on the exact 8th week day and BRP 2 days after.

Meanwhile,my own employer was already disturbing me for how I intend to renew like 3 months before expiration, and due to UKVI not providing any acknowledgement or anything I had to give them consent to use the "Employer checking services" and they responded within 24hrs with an attachment saying I could continue working for 6 months.

Using the new tier 2 portal and sopra steria service was pretty straightforward, and I believe they will be better now in attending to applicant especially those with kids. My little boy disturbed them so much that day ehn, we spent more than 45mins trying to capture his face because he had already slept after playing for more than 3hrs while we were on the queue (this was around 8.30pm already ooo).

So make we drink water on this till next time we apply with £400pound health surcharge......

Now we have to move houses, unfortunately I tried all i could to get one through gumtree or openrent but no luck.

So we began searching while waiting for our visa approval and saw a property we really liked, bungalow with 3bed and 2 toilet for 650pcm, with EPC rating of C, but sadly the LL rejected us oo with one flimsy excuse of "he does not know our rental history from our country of origin", once the letting agent mentioned that, I felt it was because we are Nigerians he rejected us.

It was sad but we had to renew our search and luckily we got another one with B rating, though more expensive. So now my e-fam come help me oo, things to do while moving house. I have got a list but its all so overwhelming.

a. whats the best way to get van rentals prices? online are scary ooo.
b. Does moving house affect credit score badly
c. How soo can one gets deposit on old apartment... so many questions...

N.B:- for new renters, please try and get a house of C rating because we just discovered a huge saving between D and C, we pay an estimated cost £100 to £120 with SSE a month, my friend with a higher band of C pays £65/pcm and their house is soo warm. Though D is the most common but one should search before making a commitment. I still wonder how people with E and F survive.

- You old deposit should have been placed in the deposit scheme. Did you receive an email about your deposit lodged?

- Van rental - If you have a driving license or know someone with a DL, just hire a van for a day or 2..... Renting a van should not exceed £50.00..... Just walk into the nearest van rental office closest to you.........

- Moving houses should not affect your credit rating at all.....

The deposit scheme is impartial, once you contest any issues, they seek resolution and release deposit to tenant.......

Fatima04,

£650 is amazingly good,I'm paying over double that for a 3 bed semi but it's almost over as we have exchanged on a house and will settle down finally in a few months.

You should get most of your deposit back,it's usually kept in a deposit scheme and you can even challenge whatever amount they are giving you back if it's not the full amount especially if there's no serious damage apart from the usual wear and tear.If you leave stuff for repair the agents tend to quote exorbitant amounts.
Timing of the return varies by rental agent..some could be days after, some weeks after. If there are deductions cos of repairs it lags on as they have to get quotes for the repair etc

Van hire: Enter Arnold Clark or the equivalent and rent a van for a day or two,it usually works out cheaper.I did this in one of our moves but for the cross country one,I paid some guys in church and they hired a van and did the same but at least they did all the heavy lifting and putting things together.
